  • The people and streets of Dingle (An Daingean) County Kerry are the stars of this ‘Hall’s Pictorial Weekly’ opening sequence.
Fishing boats are in Dingle Harbour and some fishermen are finished for the day. A car is in the process of being reversed up a street and locals look out from doorways with curiosity at the camera.
This episode of ‘Hall’s Pictorial Weekly’ was broadcast on 22 January 1976.
Once a week, from June to September, the ‘Hall’s Pictorial Weekly’ film crew would arrive at a town or village in any county in Ireland. They would film the people and the place and return to RTÉ where the footage was edited and put to music.
This short film of around one minute’s duration formed part of the opening sequence for that week’s episode. But no-one knew which location had been chosen, and it was not advertised as part of the programme billings in the RTÉ Guide or newspapers.
So with this in mind, people the length and breadth of the country tuned in religiously, in case it was the turn of their town or village to have its few minutes of fame.

Yahoo, by sheer good luck, I got here first, my dear friend Sheamus who resides in the next-door cell has told me that this is a lovely place to live or visit, the people are the best, the most friendliest of them all. When I have served my time 43 years for mutiny on the high sea, on our ship called the Bounty ( very unfortunate name) I told the judge that we were serving some bad cheap old stale Rum the evening before and during the night a bad dream, I thought our ship had struck an iceberg, so I jumped overboard and swam to the shoreline 16 miles away. but the bad Judge did not believe me, when I finally get my freedom I will spend the little money I have, but a ticket to fight with Ryan Air and head for the south coast of Ireland and spend the remainder of my days writing and telling my stories of long ago, I will begin to live a good life in peace in Dingle Bay
