Good Day Joe commenting from the Arctic -45 -50 degrees Celsius here for another month then heading home. Starting to get firewood producing withdrawal lol. Does not get old seeing that perfect split produce amazing firewood. Cheers my friend
This was really impressive how nice of splits the Perfect Split made of the Beech. It is so hard and can tend to shatter like glass instead of splitting and end up being a unusable product!👍
Can you get an extension for the log desk so that it is three frames instead of two or just move the log deck further from the splitter so the logs are balanced better? Great Video as always - I like beech for turning on the lathe.
Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. It's those kinks and knots in the wood producing the resistance that cause the log to explode. I know from the sound of my splitter when it going to happen so it doesn't surprise me.
@@ohiowoodburner That does seem to be the essence of your problem, needing a wider live deck. Seems like that would pay for itself with more efficient handling,
Good morning, it looked like the saw was the one having difficulty with the beech. Elaine from Canada here, thought I heard a little struggle with the 405, but wondered if you even had it at full throttle? And It was so quiet, was it on low idle? Nice video, nice weather, nice plans for a cover, nice Joe. Heh heh, hope everything goes well, and have a great productive week, cheers.
The thing I can’t get over with these processors is the restrictions on the diameter, is it a problem with your log orders that you have to have logs under a certain size?
Not where I'm from. All the bigger logs go to the mills in Middlefield. They are worth twice as much there as they are for firewood. With the price of lumber going up the mills are buying smaller and smaller logs which makes things even smaller when they get to my yard. It seems everyone thinks "big" in firewood when i think smaller is the way to go. Smaller machines are cheaper to buy. Here is a vid I was in on a diff channel where I discuss this. Thanks for your comment SSR ruclips.net/video/cGoK8guhBkY/видео.htmlsi=tea21d3jzw9YKpeN
@@ohiowoodburner That was a great video with lots of info, most I already knew but now I have a better understanding about the smaller logs. There is a Yapa 435 Perfect split for sale on marketplace in Missouri, will take a 20" Thank for the info Sir!
Hi from Denmark. I make beech every year, 20-30 full cords a year. Logs 9 foot long, 10-20" thick, and have done it for 35 year. The trees are cut down jan/feb., cut 12" long and split around 3" thickness in april and in aug/sep. the moist is around 15-17%. If we get heavy rain I cover it, in that time. 17:0417:04
Hello from Ohio USA. Thanks for posting and I hope you are doing well. I may be in Germany this summer. Prob too far for you to come visit but at least we will be on the same continent!
Beech begins its life out in the woods reaching for all the light its leaves can get. Some branch out 8 to 10 feet in all directions. They blocked my view, ease of walking in the woods, etc. And those branches are what cause so many knots. When I would use a maul to split Beech I'd split it within 2 days of cutting or wait until it was frozen. I had a DR Rapidfire which split it anytime, but it always was easier within 2 days of cutting or if the rounds were frozen. Nice video. 👍
Thanks for another great video, Joe! Really glad I subbed your channel. This might be the wood nerd part of me....but I'm always curious about length of time from split to dry to ready to burn. Do you ever keep any records on that for various species? I have a similar climate to you and stack my wood in a very similar manner.
Joe, I stopped buying those blue tarps years ago. They are too thin and flimsy and don't hold up well at all. The next time you are at harbor freight take a look at the silver tarps. They cost a bit more of course but are much more durable and will last noticeably longer. .
A question or observation. There is a safety grate to protect the operator. An excellent preventative measure. The videographer really gets into the output from the machine and has no shield in the event of the wood being ejected unexpectedly.
Beech is the second best firewood, in my opinion, only surpassed by black locust. Around here in the Catskills of New York, there’s plenty that’s left in the woods by the bigger, logging operations, usually perfect firewood diameter sticks that weren’t worth them dragging out, or what they leave behind after they take the stump for the mill. Once it’s on the ground, it rots quick, so get it before the fungus does!
Okay you split that beech without any problem now when you have some more I'd like to see it go through the 6 and 8 way splitter, if it works then I'll be 1000 percent impressed.
Joe Beech is lovely wood to burn, 3 weeks ago my local man brought me 5 loads all dry ready to burn. which is rare in these parts normally its damp not even seasoned

And instead of just being a conventional round it are upside down, you shape. You should see if they got one. That's like a bat wing shape and that way. You can keep the upright legs close sir, the length of the yapa. It's self, but the outstretched wing would be enough to cover. Half of the live decked and going the other way. It may even cover part of the conveyor or cleaneralthough I know it's not needed back anyways , it'll be interesting to see what it works and looks like

I probably sound like a broken record here but that processor is amazing. Everytime i see these 100k-200k processors run, they produce horrible oversized pieces of firewood.
