Thanks a lot to everyone who has watched this, I really appreciate your comments! I went on a second walk during the summer from Sainte-Anne to the Old Port, it's a lot more scenic and sunny, you can see the video here: ruclips.net/video/8ePQlF_Sw24/видео.html
First off, props for surviving the walk!! Not even just for the distance, but for choosing to walk the the highways... If I were to ever attempt such a feat, I'd take the scenic route through the denser parts of town, watching this felt like exploring a concrete wasteland
Thanks! And yeah I know... it would have been more pleasant along one of the shores instead of right down the middle by the 40. Next time I do something like this I'll try to plan for less concrete & tarmac.
@@che8866 Except Montreal does have a lot of beautiful green places and trails to walk through, and you can walk alongside rivers and canals across the whole island. But it will mean walking along the edge of the island and hence adds quite a bit of time to the walk,
Merci d'avoir regardé! Je suis content que tu aies apprécié. Yes, it was pretty rough out in the cold and rain but I’m happy to have made it. 25km is still a great effort
I have lived in Montreal all my life, and lived in Ste-Anne for a few years, while at Mac. You definitely showed places in the east end I've never seen or even knew about. However, I think your trip would have been much more pleasant had you walked along Gouin (north shore) or the Lakeshore (through Beaconsfield), as this is where a lot of the early colonization took place, and there's some historic windmills and other structures along the way. Another place you might also like to walk is along the shore from Pont-Viau, (see Parc île de la Visitation) all the way north to the eastern tip. The Visitation Island is also a historic place with an old water mill of some sorts, I believe.
It's rare that i come across beautiful souls like that, i can sense the passion in your videos and music. Keep grinding brother, you're among the rare ones
takes alot of mental fortitude to get through those sections with all the traffic - on top of all that distance. i very much enjoy all your videos thanks
Quite the achievement! Let’s see more of MTL! FYI, in the west, there is a bike/walking path about 1km north of highway 40 that goes from about des Sources all the way through to St-Anne de Bellevue. Or Blvd Gouin which is the longest street in Montreal (57 Km) that goes all the way to St Anne’s. Kudos roughing it on the 40 service road (but really not safe…).
He was actually on the bike path you're referring to. It starts off right as he exited Bois de Liesse. You see him walking on it up until Spring Garden I guess.
Im glad you passed by the Route Verte cycling road 6:14. It is the longest continual cycling road in America. I love it and I use it daily for my commutes and fun. The view along the road is awesome and on windy days you get a fresh breeze from the river.
Dude, I used to live there. Can’t imagine going to Sainte Anne de Bellevue from pointe aux trembles by walk. I live my youth in L’ile Perrot and all over the place to down town. You’re courageous, kudos.
Me and a friend did the same 2 years ago. Took us around 14 hours, but we followed the saint lawrence river and canal lachine the whole way. We also did something similar in NYC last year.
Yeah it really highlights why a city made for drivers sucks the life out of everything when you take the time to look at it! Could hear the highway noise even in the nature reserve.. no escape
Thank you! Gouin and Senneville would have been a lot more scenic, a few extra km though. By the way, I was just scrolling on Reddit and a certain r/montrealcycling post showed up. Before I even saw it was you I was like “that has to be Adam” haha
@@DanSchaumann LOL I was curious so I went back to check, and you walked about 1km more and took around 10,000 more steps. You went out of the way to go look at cool things (I literally just followed Gouin and Senneville without diverting), you started at the actual east end of the island (I only started at Sherbrooke/Gouin), and a couple of detours+construction sites probably added some mileage for you. I remember practically limping and barely being able to walk by the time I got to Senneville (the last 5-10 kilometers were ROUGH). Major kudos to you 😀
Nice walk, well done ... what a shame you elected to walk alongside the 40 from Galleries des Sources to RioCan in Kirkand. There's a pretty good walking/cycle path that runs east-west along the hydro quebec servitude from Bois Francs all the way into SADB village, I believe the last 18K of your walk would have been a lot more pleasant had you taken this route :). Thanks for sharing your video.
4:39 this is Route 125 or Boul Pie XI with a bus ferris wheel art installation. The other end of r125 starts in Hochelaga and goes south of the olympic stadium and le jardin boutanique. The R125 BRT is also there.
My kind of adventure! Did a cross south to north in Laval in spring 13 km coming back from an appointment downtown. Lots of fun and it is so true you see and find sights you would never come across in other ways! Keep it up mate!
Wow, that's quite the achievement, especially at that time of the year! A month later, it might have been easier. I'm glad you enjoyed the Bois-de-Liesse and were able to show it. It's one of my favourite parks on the island. Thanks for sharing!
Congrats on doing it. This brought so many memories for me. I grew up east of town, now live in st Laurent and work in the West Island. Needless to say it was nice to see so many areas that have been important in my life in a single video. Thank you
Congrats on the walk! My husband rollerbladed a similar path when he was 18. ( Repentigny to Pine Beach and back to NDG) It's a shame you missed on walking along the canal lachine and the beautiful landscape of the st-lawrence river. Its worth the walk!

So I saw this video a few months ago and was really inspired, so yesterday my friends and I also walked Montréal end to end! Thanks for the motivation!
Great walking challenge! Congratulations! I like to take long walks in Montreal, but I prefer to use Sherbrooke, Notre-Dame, go through Old-Montreal, sometimes walk along canal Lachine. I did a round trip between metro Langelier and Lachine a few years ago. Mostly bike paths and no highways. About 50km. It was a long day, but a very pleasant early fall challenge. Good luck with your next challenges.
Loved your video. I did a 50 km bike ride like a week ago and I gotta say, the bikable part of the city is so small compared to the actual island side. Still, I loved my trip, it's so fun to explore the hidden gems of tje place you live in. Yeah sorry I'm french sooo
superbe video. great demonstration also of the state of the city even looking for the bascis of it, which is walking paths... congrats for the accomplishment
Cheers to you for your walk along our Island, do it again when it is green and summery please, try the other side, much longer and show more, you missed a spot or two on Ville-Marie (Montreal) end to end. Thanks for a big ask from a one legged guy who still does it.
4:50 if i remembwr right the ferris wheel is made with either the body of old busses or old metrocar we used to have in MTL, they gotta bring those back what great public transport we lost
Great video, really loved. It was great to see the easternmost part of the island, which is quite unknown to most residents of Montreal. The parc du bout de l'île where you started your walk is a favorite spot of mine. I usually ride there on my bike on summer mornings. It's about 30 km from my house in Saint-Laurent and another 30 km back, so a nice workout. The whole area called the Parc Nature de la pointe-aux-prairies is lovely. And yes, you can see deers out there. Around the 6:15 mark in the video, you're walking in Ahuntsic, more precisely the Parc Maurice-Richard, named for Rocket Richard, who lived just right by it until he died. This is also a favorite spot of mine on the island. I went a few times to Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue on my bike, but I hardly ever go now because the bike path on Gouin west is quite dangerous and very, very badly designed. It's only good after Cap Saint-Jacques, but before that, it's a real pain in the neck, especially in Pierrefonds, in my opinion.
I've started to walk a lot more again after a nasty incident that left me unable to walk for 3 months, and I love exploring Montreal too! Very fun video to watch, thank you for sharing and inspiring :) It's been a goal of mine to explore parts of the city I've never seen and after watching this I want to make sure I do so this weekend.
I think you mean Boul. St Jean Pointe Claire. You should have gone down to Bord du Lac ( Lakeshore) at Des Sources. Nicer walk. Mind you I’m totally blown away by that walk. In credible. Good on you. Cheers from L’Ile Perrot.
So I’ve thought of doing this as well! When I lived in Tokyo I did a loop of this ring train line called the Yamanote line with friends, exhausting but fun! So always thought of doing this but boy watching you sure discouraged me! Esp. The bloody West Island… I knew it was going to be like that! But again, mad respect for you going through with this, I can imagine how cold, wet and muddy it was but you persevered! Congratulations!
As a lot of people here said, it really wasn't a good time of year to do this kind of thing, but in the summer I did a slightly shorter walk from Ste-Anne to downtown and it was glorious! So don't be discouraged - just do it on a nicer summer's day. It'd be great to do this kind of thing in Tokyo... I spend some time there about 12 years ago and could easily walk the streets for hours.
Good for you, that's a long walk, albeit pretty flat depending on one's route I've lived in Sainte Anne for about 35 years. Done the end-to-end three separate times about 10-12 years ago -- each time from Pointe aux Trembles to Sainte Anne (58-62 km depending on route). Don't know if I could manage it anymore...but it's largely mind over matter, I never did any training in advance at the time. Took me 14-16 hrs 1 - alone, along north route (Gouin, Salaberry bike path to Timberlea...Chemin Ste. Marie...) 2 - with my daughter, Sherbrooke St. to Atwater, down to Lachine Canal, Lakeshore Rd. 3 - with my daughter, Sherbrooke St., Rachel St. , Mont Royal St., up to peak of Mt. Royal, The Boulevard, Westmount Ave, NDG Ave, down to Lachine Canal at end of Sherbrooke, Lakeshore Rd. Indeed the last 10 km one is tempted to simply jump on a bus and collapse... certainly not a good time to sit down for any length of time.
Congrats for completing your trek. I sure hope you were wearing some sort of reflective material when it reached dusk. It's essential when walking along a highway.
I watched your video a few months back and decided to do the walk today. Did the 55KM tip to tip walk in 10hr50min! Was originally aiming to get it done in 12
Great to hear! I'm pretty sure you're the first to comment about doing the whole walk after seeing the video, I'm very happy this has inspired others to do the same. 12 hours is a great time. Hope your legs recovered well!
Congrats on your accomplishment. I know how difficult it can be. I did the 100,000 step in 24 hours challenge last year, which I don't recommend. It ended up being around 77 km (48 miles) and took 18-19 hours to complete. It was brutal but I survived. Cheers and keep walking!
Another Montrealer seeing parts of his city for the first time - but - when you got to Galerie des Sources and started along the highway, there is a parallel road that you had been on earlier - Gouin - that continues along the river and is much quieter :) great video!
Nice journey, theres a nice bike path along Salaberry for the west portion, you'd need to deviate after st-charles to reach the other path that leads to l'Anse a l'Orme
Inspiring video - thank you! I agree with the idea of walking the shorelines - gorgeous quiet parks along the water all the way from Old Montreal all the way to St. Anne de Bellevue. Lots of places to grab a lunch, coffee or ice cream. Maybe a summer challenge:)?
If you had gone a little south in Dorval you would have had beautiful views along the Lakeshore road to St Annes, but great achievement 60kms is impressive
I heard some of radio noon today - 2 ways to bike to Ottawa - one is more bike-path-ey, on the North shore of the Ottawa river - you can cross at Hawkesbury. Or you can go through Oka on the way out and then cross with a ferry at Oka. I would recommend going through Rural Eastern Ontario rather than the Quebec side - the Alexandria region has lots of lost farm land and quiet roads - exactly where you might find some gems and authenticity if you like to explore (sounds like you do). Going into Ottawa there is a bike path a good long ways along the Ottawa river.
Thanks for the tips and for coming here after Radio Noon! I have the Eastern Ontario route in mind, I hadn’t considered crossing at Hawkesbury or Oka, but I’ll look deeper at all the options before I do it. Really keen on exploring this corner of Canada.
the final approach to Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue after Fairview Pointe Claire could have been a long Gouin Blvd, its not rural but the homes are far apart, it's definitely a longer trip and it can be hilly in places but the roads are heavily forested, its peaceful and relaxing, one section has mansions on big plots of land, a few of them are interesting or nice to see, i like to cycle along that stretch.
Paulo and Suzannes is an amazing place to eat. You defintley stopped at the right spot to eat. They were around when Belmont Park was active back in the 80s
so interesting to see the city ive lived my whole life in like this. i wonder if for future videos like this, you could put a map in the corner to show your progress ? hope your feet have recovered!
Good idea, I'll try to add a map in the corner next time I do something like this. It took about a week for my feet to feel ok again. Thanks for watching!
@8:37 that used to be the convent for the Marcellines nuns! You passed by the Collège Ste-Marcelline school and Ste-Marcelline Residential Home, the nuns live close to school grounds now
Interesting! I like that kind of Urban Exploration. Awesome vid. By the way, that Park in Pointe-aux-Trembles (beginning of video), is very popular for local bird photographers.
Awesome. Congratulations! As a long distance walker, I felt your pain, though I’ve never gone that far in a day. My daughter lives in Montreal and I walk a lot when I visit her. You’ve given me some great ideas of nature places to check out. Thanks.
Amazing, congrats Dan! I walk an hour every day, can't imagine walking 14 times that in one day. I wish cities were made for walking and not for driving.
Nice journey! I’ve run from my house in Pincourt to the clock tower in Old MTL along the Lakeshore and Lachine Canal…it was a fun, tough and rewarding day!
WOW !! i live in MTL so i know exactly what you went thru ,,, along the TrasnCanada HW ufff impressed , thats a horrible one to walk specially when you already walked like 70% of the way. Well done congrats !
This is actually precisely a thing that I had on my bucket list for over 10 years. My dad lives right at the eastern end of the island and so I would have also walked it east to west. Not surprised that you started hating it near the end but I think the experience would have been so much nicer if you did it on a nice sunny day in May, it looks like you did it in March? (whyyy lol) Anyway good for you, very impressive feat! I'm definitely doing this sometime, but for sure in the summer or early fall)
I live in the area of Riviere des Prairies and was happy to see you stop by the Tim Hortons I frequent alot along my commute to work nowadays. But also the whole Henri Bourassa journey I would do when I went to Cegep (Which is like preuniversity) so that brought back memories. I've never experienced walking all the way through Montreal so I'll be excited to finish the video, though I have driven to a nature reserve in Pointe Sainte-Claire, the furthest I've traveled in Montreal. Not sure if I'll ever see you back in Riviere des Prairies but cool video nonetheless! Haha I also used to work near Galeries Des Sources, lemme tell you the commute from the East end to there was UNPLEASANT constant traffic back and forth, kind of like you experienced with the highway! So glad I'm not doing that travel anymore! But that's a wild walk I feel like it would take me DAYS to walk across Montreal like that, what an adventure, too bad Pointe-Sainte Claire was aweful to walk
Thanks for watching and sharing your Montreal experience! I'd love to return to Riviere des Prairies one day to see more. Oh yeah, I used to visit a warehouse for work once in a while around Galeries des Sources and it was awful to commute to and from!
wow Dan, a man after my heart. this is incredible! I love walking absolutely absurd distances, but nothing like this! congrats and I bet that sleep after was unbelievable lol

Really impressive. Nice work. I'm wondering ow you would have felt after walking that far on, well, not concrete.
Epic trek, sir Bravo!
@ did you ever circumnavigate the island? I feel that would indeed be nicer but probably impossible to do in a day!
Good for you, that's a long walk, albeit pretty flat depending on one's route
I've lived in Sainte Anne for about 35 years. Done the end-to-end three separate times about 10-12 years ago -- each time from Pointe aux Trembles to Sainte Anne (58-62 km depending on route). Don't know if I could manage it anymore...but it's largely mind over matter, I never did any training in advance at the time. Took me 14-16 hrs
1 - alone, along north route (Gouin, Salaberry bike path to Timberlea...Chemin Ste. Marie...)
2 - with my daughter, Sherbrooke St. to Atwater, down to Lachine Canal, Lakeshore Rd.
Superb video!! Just, at 4:01 you weren't in Anjou at all! That's Montréal-Nord! I miss that place so much, ngl.
Presque à 100 000 vues! Belle vidéo!
this guy did something nobody could do!
you deserve way more likes and views than this!
Thanks, Montreal King!
@@DanSchaumann You’re Welcome!
Je ne savais pas qu'il y avait une chapelle nommée Scala Santa à cet endroit. Intéressant...
Another Montrealer seeing parts of his city for the first time - but - when you got to Galerie des Sources and started along the highway, there is a parallel road that you had been on earlier - Gouin - that continues along the river and is much quieter :)
great video!
J'ai pas compris grand chose mais Pointe-aux-trembles a été mentionné !
What??
@DogmanPiaf it's french you goof
French??
L'anglais jpense qui veux qu'ont SPEAK WHITE
All these French fries leaving comments on that ancient ass Language when it’s clearly an English video
Nice journey, theres a nice bike path along Salaberry for the west portion, you'd need to deviate after st-charles to reach the other path that leads to l'Anse a l'Orme
Oh, I see! I've never noticed that bike path before. I'll head out west again one day on the bike to check it out. Thanks!
That's so cool to see you living a true adventure in such a simple way! So nice to watch, I will walk more in Montreal now :)
Bois-de-Liesse in the Winter on snowshoes is absolutely amazing. You'd love it.
Hell yeah. Great job man. Saint Anne resident here.
That's an insane walk, I felt your pain 😂
If you had gone a little south in Dorval you would have had beautiful views along the Lakeshore road to St Annes, but great achievement 60kms is impressive
Quelle aventure en effet! Et comme évoqué, une superbe manière de découvrir des pépites cachées.
What an amazing video, really entertaining, you're so underrated! Haven't seen such a good video on youtube like this in quite a while. Keep it up!
You’re insane. Subscribed
Merci André!
Not exactly at the most western point in St Anne (the pier... but by night not so great) but still a good walk!
What a wacky thing to do. I love it! Even though it would be longer, I think a walk along Gouin would have been more pleasant.
Indeed, Taking the highway was not a good choice
Paulo and Suzannes is an amazing place to eat. You defintley stopped at the right spot to eat. They were around when Belmont Park was active back in the 80s
so interesting to see the city ive lived my whole life in like this. i wonder if for future videos like this, you could put a map in the corner to show your progress ?
hope your feet have recovered!
Good idea, I'll try to add a map in the corner next time I do something like this. It took about a week for my feet to feel ok again. Thanks for watching!
@8:37 that used to be the convent for the Marcellines nuns! You passed by the Collège Ste-Marcelline school and Ste-Marcelline Residential Home, the nuns live close to school grounds now
Great video! 60k in a day is pretty epic! I'm taking it little bits by bits on my project ;)
The walk from old Port to canal Lachine then side of the water to ste anne de belle vue is really really nice hope youl give it a try soon!
Congratulations to you. This was pure determination and perseverance. Great video. I ran a few 100 km ultra-marathon, so I can totally relate.
Interesting! I like that kind of Urban Exploration. Awesome vid.
By the way, that Park in Pointe-aux-Trembles (beginning of video), is very popular for local bird photographers.
I've cycled this, but walking it.... props to you sir!
Visited Montreal once and it definitely had more character than Vancouver!
wow Dan, a man after my heart. this is incredible! I love walking absolutely absurd distances, but nothing like this! congrats and I bet that sleep after was unbelievable lol
Thanks, cheers from Vancouver!
Jean-Coutu, where you bought your sunscreen, was actually in Montreal - North borough and not Anjou. Enjoyable video seeing landmarks that I've been to, and others that I would like to discover. Cheers!
Oui, tu as raison, I see now it’s Montréal-Nord. I need to explore more of the north-east of the island! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed
