The abandoned ruins of Fort Montgomery! My 200km return bike ride from Montréal to Rouses Point
In July 2024 I went on a 200km round-trip bike ride from Montréal QC to Rouses Point NY to see the abandoned ruins of Fort Montgomery (a.k.a. "Fort Blunder," for reasons which will become apparent in the video).
Along the way I passed through some beautiful small towns and their connecting bike paths, including Chambly, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Saint-Valentin, before arriving in Rouses Point in the early afternoon. I took a different route back home, via Monteé-Dupuis, Saint-Rémi and Sainte-Catherine.

I walked 60km from one end of Montreal to the other
Просмотров 152 тыс.4 месяца назад
Join me for an epic 60km adventure where I walked from the very northeastern tip of Montréal island at Parc du Bout-de-l'Île, to the southwestern point at Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. This preposterous promenade took me nearly 14.5 hours to complete, but it was a wonderful way to see parts of the city I’d never otherwise see. If you enjoyed this, check out my video where I rode my bike 150km around...
What'll Russ Cook Up Next? - A song for the Hardest Geezer
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.5 месяцев назад
At the time of writing this, Russ Cook, otherwise known as The Hardest Geezer, is a week away from completing his nearly year-long, 16,000 kilometre run from the southernmost point of South Africa to the northernmost tip of Tunisia. History will be made when he crosses that finish line. Like thousands of others, I’ve been following his journey via the RUclips series put together by his fantasti...
Reuniting with a lost melody: my 25 year search for a song!
Просмотров 5495 месяцев назад
CANE FIRE by STRUM, written by Timo Tolvanen, from the EP Distant Rain. Way back in 1998 at the youthful age of 14, I heard a particular song a single time on CMT, the chorus of which embedded deeply into my memory. I've been trying to search for it ever since, and finally I tracked it down - a quarter of a century later! This is the story of how I rediscovered it. You can find more info about ...
10km straight line jog in Montreal on the coldest day of the year
Просмотров 6486 месяцев назад
Saturday 24th of March 2024 was the coldest day of the year in Montreal at -14ºC, which just happened to coincide with the day I planned to jog 10km along Avenue Papineau, the longest, straightest stretch of road (that I know of) on Montreal island. Join me to see if I made it!
A short tour of Casa Amarela Cemetery in Recife, Brazil

In January 2024 I paid a visit to the Cemitério de Casa Amarela in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. I loved the aesthetic of this place, especially the stark contrast between the peacefulness of the graveyard and the chaos of the surrounding neighbourhood.
The Dog Chapel: A Tribute to Coco

I visited the Dog Chapel, on top of Dog Mountain, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, to pay tribute to my parent's adorable English Staffy, Coco. Built in 2000 by Stephen Huneck, the Dog Chapel is a wonderfully peaceful and moving little sanctuary that anyone can visit to remember their dearly departed pets. I found where the true Old people of Olds spend their time

In September 2023 I travelled one hour out of my way to Olds, Alberta, pretty much because it has a funny name and I wanted to get a pic by the town's sign. I ended up finding where the true Old people of Olds spend their time.

My straight-line mission across Montreal's Mont-Royal
Просмотров 904Год назад
I've always been curious if it's possible to walk across the entirety of Mont-Royal - the mountain situated smack-bang in the middle of Montreal city - in a straight line. I recently put this to the test and embarked upon a mission to get from Côte-Sainte-Catherine, on the western end of the mountain, to Saint-Catherine, on the eastern end. Did I succeed? Watch and find out! Of course, the mast...

In May 2023 I was honoured to take part in a trip to the beautiful town of Jardín, Colombia, along with 19 other amazing people from across Nespresso Canada. I put together this video of the experience, highlighting our visit to two coffee farms tucked away in the Antioquia mountains, as well as the Central Mill and the dry parchment coffee purchasing point. I hope you enjoy!

Kayaking 31km up & down Ross River in Townsville, Qld
Просмотров 656Год назад
On the 28th of February 2023, my brother Adrian and I dropped a couple of kayaks into Townsville's main waterway, Ross River, and paddled our way 31km from Aplin's Weir, past Gleeson's Weir and Black Weir, almost reaching the Ross River Dam, and back again. The journey was fantastic and we saw a bunch of interesting sights and wildlife including some crocodiles - a first for me in the wild in T...

00:56 Cool!
Great stuff, keep it up We would love to add your music on our blog
do you have any proof that you actually listened to it for 10 hours?
A man with love in his heart for the D would never use their name in vain
I watched your video a few months back and decided to do the walk today. Did the 55KM tip to tip walk in 10hr50min! Was aiming to get it done in 12
Impressive! Now try walk 120km from one end of Greater Montreal to another (Saint-Zotique to Lavaltrie) 😂
Yeah but why are they two different headstones one reddish, one grey and obviously not in the same spot??
I've reached to you before on this video, and I have a few question for you: I will be doing this route in a few weeks time and was wondering if you had any tips or suggestions for my ride? Did you use Strava as a guide or did you simply use it to record your route? Finally, I will also travelling in a counterclockwise direction (so that I am also on the same side the water) ...did you find this to be this helpful for staying on route for the perimeter of the island? Cheers, and well done on your ride!
Thanks for getting back in touch! Good to hear you're doing the ride yourself. I used Google Maps as my guide but I had to tweak it a bit; it (rightly so) suggested some bike routes which were a bit more internal, whereas I specifically wanted to stick as far close to the outer circumference as possible. Strava was just to record the route. I'd also agree counter-clockwise is the best option, for exactly that reason, it's easier to take a detour into a waterside park. Be cautious around the Cartierville area of Gouin, when I was there a few months ago it was full of roadwork and quite chaotic. Good luck!
@@DanSchaumann Thanks so much for getting back to me! I appreciate your feedback! I'm really looking forward to this challenge!
Nice one mate! :) Cheers
this guy did something nobody could do! you deserve way more likes and views than this!
Thanks, Montreal King!
@@DanSchaumann You’re Welcome!
Kel aprooves btw
nice ride
West Island >>>>
ok now do 120 km
You are very strong my friend !
i like this video, good job!!
Congrats for prononcing the landmarks name's in french rather than translate them 💪🏻
This video was quite fun to watch, as someone from the west island i fdeel your pain when mentioning the lack of sidewalks LOL!
I want to live in Montreal so badly, but I can’t speak French. Maybe that’s a stereotype and not true. Idk
This is great, keep the videos coming!
Mount Halifax is 3487 feet Mount Elliott is 4022!
Well done it's the second tallest of the local group
83k steps, the fck ahahahahahahah
Looks beautiful!!! What a great adventure!
Thanks Kelly!
Could of started from Sherbrooke or Notre Dame (in the east) would of been a nicer 'Walk'
À "zozo" is a poorly gifted individual brainwise. I dont think french people would really made fun of him because of his name. I think the reasons were less "honorable".
You said you've just moved to Montreal, where were you from ? Great vids you make!
Thank you! I'm Australian but I've been in Canada since 2013. I spent most of my time in Toronto before I made the move to Montreal a few years ago
The Aussie in me instantly thinks of snakes with that long grass
I can understand! I've only seen a single wild snake in the decade I've been in Canada and it was just a measly little grass snake... I was much more worried about ticks
Another great video!!
Great video !
Thanks a lot!
I wouldnt have the nerve to explore an abandoned factory, I would be afraid if people were in there doing something crazy or illegal or something.
At 2:38 there's a short clip of some tarps that had been strung up along the ceiling. When I saw that I was a bit worried that I was entering someone's makeshift living space, but there was nobody there.
DUDE EVERYTHING THAT GOVERNMENT IS INVOLVED IN CREATES FRAUDULENT JOB SECURITY.... GOVERNMENTS FOR EXAMPLE LAUNDER TAX PAYER MONEY SPENDING $50 ON A HAMMER, WHICH NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY ON A HAMMER. PPL NEED TO START THINKING ABOUT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT AS MAFIA CARTELS... THATS WHAT THEYVE ESSENTIALLY BECOME...
I THINK THATS THE SAME FERRIS WHEEL THAT LOCAL ITALIAN COMEDIAN GUIFRIDDA MADE FUN OF IN ONE OF HIS SKITS THAT THEY SPENT OVER 1 MILLION OF TAX PAYER MONEY ON ...
omg lets go, me and my friends have been talking about how a ride from Mtl to Saint Jean would be crazy and you're over here going through Saint Jean AHAHAHA
Do it!! It's so nice on the trail out there south of Chambly. And make sure you go to Bean et Bonheur!
Thanks a making this. Looks like it was a fun ride.
It sure was a great ride, cheers!
Awesome video, Dan! 👍
Thanks a lot Tatiana, glad you enjoyed!
At the trans-Canadian, you could've went up on hyman BLVD which is much more enjoyable
Text time ya should've walked along the Dollard-des-Ormeaux bike path instead of along Highway 40 for that last bit! It's under the power lines, and I can assure you it's waaay nicer
If you’re up for a bigger challenge, you can ride around Montréal island offshore. I wouldn’t do it in one sitting but there are also excellent bike paths and parks to see.
GRUAU has to be one of the last coureurs des bois, for I find his tags absolutely everywhere in the remotest places of Montreal and the Laurentides.
Hahahaha bro no way i see this in my rexxomended. Am from montreal and you sir are a legwnd idk if id ever do this
I think around the 4min mark, you would be more into Montreal-Nord though ?
Wow big respect haha
Hell yeah. Great job man. Saint Anne resident here.
😂😂thanks again for the belly laugh
I have been getting in better shape and part of that has been walking. I used to get tired after 5kms but now I can do 15kms easy; actually in Bois De Liesse walking the entire park. I feel like I would be able to do....most of this walk lol...If you want want company on your next adventure around the city, hit me up.
Do it again in summer !
Quelle aventure en effet! Et comme évoqué, une superbe manière de découvrir des pépites cachées.
Respect
I've cycled this, but walking it.... props to you sir!
Tomorrow I'm gonna walk from my city , ambikapur, to girlfriend's city, sitapur chhatisgarh which has the approximately 60 millimetres distance, to meet her... I'm very excited now... Any advice on my walk?
Good luck on your walk! I'd say to be prepared for it to take longer than you think, and take the time to appreciate the small things along the way that you wouldn't necessarily take notice of if you were driving. You'll be tired but it'll be worth it!
@@DanSchaumann today I did complete my walk up to 45 unfortunately I couldn't make it to 60. After i crossed 30km of walk my feets were hurting, having headache after 40 I was shivering, feeling like couldn't walk even longer but when I reached 45 I was feeling like if I walked even little longer i would definitely die so I asked the motorcyclist riding on the way to take me her town, went her town by the motorcycle, met her talked to her, spent time with her, got the bus reached home after a few minutes I was suffering from sickness.... Overall walking up to 45 is something painful, headaching, worst... I'm glad at least i made up to 45 instead of 60... I'll never try this kind of experiment ever in my life
