  • In this 2023 RightsCon Online Session, the IWMF presented its “Mental Health Guide for Journalists Facing Online Violence,” a practical resource including a psychological self-assessment tool as well as downloadable exercises for managing acute stress, insomnia, PTSD and other forms of trauma. At the beginning of the workshop, we brought the expert behind our guide, Ana Zellhuber, a Mexican psychoanalyst and journalism trauma expert, to walk participants through key techniques. As the next part of the session, members of the Coalition Against Online Violence welcomed audience participation in a solutions-oriented discussion centered on strategies to manage the psychological impacts of online harm, particularly for women and nonbinary people. The conversation was moderated by Juanita Islas, director of programs at the International Women's Media Foundation and included Liz Lee, the executive director and co-founder of OnlineSOS, and Luisa Ortiz Pérez, the co-founder of Vita Activa.
The CAOV is funded by Craig Newmark Philanthropies and founded by the International
    Women's Media Foundation.
