Gurdjieff was (from Wikipedia) : "a mystic, philosopher, spiritual teacher, and composer of Armenian and Greek descent, born in Alexandrapol (now Gyumri), Armenia.[4] Gurdjieff taught that most humans do not possess a unified consciousness and thus live their lives in a state of hypnotic "waking sleep", but that it is possible to awaken to a higher state of consciousness and achieve full human potential. Gurdjieff described a method attempting to do so, calling the discipline "The Work"[5] (connoting "work on oneself") or "the Method".[6] According to his principles and instructions,[7] Gurdjieff's method for awakening one's consciousness unites the methods of the fakir, monk and yogi, and thus he referred to it as the "Fourth Way".[8] Lots of interesting stuff about Gurdjieff at ruclips.net/video/-YI6anFA9w0/видео.html - a journalist called Daniel Liszt who investigates lots of esoteric subjects..... Gurdjieff (like Steiner) brought forward into the public various Mystery School teachings like the Enneagram ....
He was the greatest spiritual master of the 20th century. He elaborated the music with the great pianist Thomas de Hartman. Some of his books are in libraries.
Guardjieff was musical from childhood. While travelling he heard all this music and kept the melodies in his mind for years before meeting Hartmann. He eventually played them on a guitar usually and Hartmann had the responsibility of trying to figure out how exactly to notate them and harmonize them. I take this information from liner notes on the piano editions of their manuscripts.
