23:50 That woman on the monument next to elementary school was actually a writer from XIX century - Maria Konopnicka. The school is named by her. The mural behind her is about her novel "On Dwarfs and Little Orphan Mary" written in 1896. I walked to this school 40 years ago. Many thanks for this video.
3:50 This is the Blues Alley (Aleja Bluesa), commemorating many famous Polish blues musicians, the sidewalk plates are laid to mimic a piano keyboard. Białystok was once (from 70s to 90s) considered the `Polish capital of blues`, Kasa Chorych blues band was started in this city by Ryszard "Skiba" Skibiński back in 1975, a plaque with his name can be found on the sidewalk. Nowadays, unfortunately Białystok is no longer associated with blues but only with Disco-Polo. But still, last year we've had the 38th "Jesień z bluesem" (`Autumn with blues`) annual blues festival, one of the biggest in Poland.
Next time you're in Białystok you should visit Stawy Marczukowskie. It's a tiny park with a puddle in the middle with ducks & swans. It's a fun little mini-lake thing right in the middle of a relatively old commie block neighbourhood with mostly old people living there. There are even beavers living there, in the middle of the town. There's also a nice orthodox church not far from there, a big one too. And another commie block neighbourhood.
@@TravelwithMrJon id go there in the summer though, place has a great vibe when its warm outside. People fishing, locals having bbq, aggresive swans attacking people who annoyed them too much, protecting their tiny swan babies
@@TravelwithMrJon its two tiny fishing ponds, look for some pics on google maps. Never thought of swimming in them or seen anyone do it, but havent found a sign saying you cant either :D. Would make for an interesting story too. If you're desperate for a swim in or around białystok you should try plaża dojlidy (dull, boring), or go a bit to the north-east of the city to a place called on google maps "ogrodniczki snow park", just by lake Komosa - there is a a few small lakes around a foresty area.
@@TravelwithMrJon Giżycko is pretty nice! You should go in order tho :) where is Biebrzański National Park? Where is Białowieski Park Narodowy? Where is Augustów? :)) only then you should move to Mazury ;D (Ełk, Giżycko, Mrągowo etc) :)
Walking in Poland is kind of like driving in India, if you didnt grew up here it feels chaotic, and even if youre from here it can be super annoying (women with strollers side by side talking about soap operas or pairs of old people blocking entire sidewalk, while barely moving). But if you switch to non-US pace of life, from that NY state of mind where you cant stop for a second etc, it will make much more sense.
Nie znam lepszego miejsca do życia!
You are lucky if you live there. I'll be back :) @BialPiast

It’s a wonderful city. @jolanda9193
It's God's country up there
@@cathyharris-cz5tu That it is.

@rafahrynkiewicz8274 Thanks for sharing that bit of information. I didn't know about the blues past... Disco-Polo I was aware :)
Thanks for this intersting tour 😊
You are most welcome! @welcome_Moscow_walks
You should visit The Sibir Memorial Museum.
@cavcomichu I mention it on this walking tour and how I went to it before. It's a powerful, sobering place to visit. I walked away in awe.
I am from Bialystok. Currently, I live in Germany, I still often go to Bialystok. Next time you are in the city I invite you for coffee 😄Best regards
@Kat-zt5np Thanks for the invitation. I'll have to make sure you aren't in Germany when I visit. :)

@Matzgier this sounds better than the section of town where I did my Orthodox Christmas plunge into the lake. I will add it to the list.

Great point. I know I had to adjust as my trip went along. I forgot about the fun of walking in Poland...
