“For this recipe, you will need: a pinch of cyanide, and a wealthy husband”
Sounds like the og comfort food.
Preferably served after a long day....
.....plus an ample dose of allspice and black pepper
I didn’t wanna like it because it was at 333
To Meme or Not To Meme “perfectly balanced, as all things should be”
This time our Mrs Crocombe nearly had the scene stolen by the pitch black hound of cuteness...
I know🐕😍🐕😍🐕😍
🐶🌿
almost...
NEARLY...
I think that is her really pet too. I see it on her Instagram page always
New headcanon: Mrs. Crocombe likes to go on holiday in the Devon countryside, dress up as the village crazy lady, and mess with the visiting upper crust. It's her way to blow off some steam and raise funds for her retirement.
Plot twist: she really is the ghost of lady Mary of okehampton
For her obviously animated story telling, she deserved more than a coin, give that woman, paper!
You can't wish upon her waiting to receive "making soup for the poor" when she retires
May I say that the storyteller has such a beautiful voice? Now I want an audiobook read by him!
I'll ask Simon next time I see him. Any requests?
I could be wrong but it may be, Professor Hutton's voice that we hear.
Does anyone else agree?
@@trojanette8345 wrong I'm afraid. The narrator is one of the male actors in the video. He also writes the scripts. Talented chap.
@@ASLEFshrugged I thought it would be great to have these tales as an audiobook.
Maria Marienko you should check out horror narrator Dr. Creepen! I actually thought this narrator was him the first time I listened. he has an extremely similar voice and cadence.
For this recipe, you'll need:
1. Poisoned wine
2. A wealthy father
3. The bones of four dead husbands
4. A hound
Sorry for the dark joke, people. Anyway, much love to Kathy Hipperson.
Kathy Hipperson is a brilliant talent; I love everything she does.
We quite agree!
Oh my, Mrs. Crocombe is a very busy bee! Remember when she saved The King?
Mrs. C gets around!
shes the immortal time traveller called the Cook or the nun.
Because she's the real Dr. Who
@Sarah Hamilfan She's a woman of many talents, is our Mrs. Crocombe!
How many job she has? A chef, maid, nun, fisherwoman, and a serial killer.
I'd love to hear more English folklore here!
Then stay tuned, Joseph! Episode 6 coming soon...
@@EnglishHeritage Oh, jolly good.
Joseph Armes Me too
Excellent story telling. Sort of a cross between if Masterpiece Theatre met Tim Burton. The acting was great, especially you, Kathy.
That's the cutest hellhound I've ever seen!
Right! I'd let the poor boy ride in the coach with me. One blade of grass is hardly enough to eat for an active pup! I feel like the dog is getting the bad end of the deal here! He didn't kill any husbands! Yet he has to run after the murderess, as she rides in comfort and style, and then eat a blade of grass each night to end her curse. The injustice! 😂
@@gabrieladerre2862 It's a terrible injustice!! Such a good boy deserves more than a silly blade of grass! :D
But but but. ... it’s Mrs Crocombe. I just have difficulty seeing Kathy as anyone else
Me , also .
I came here actually wondering if I'd see yet another incarnation of Mrs. Crocombe. 😄
Same 😂😂
"I like to keep my skulls in my satchel when walking the grounds near Okehampton, as is the proper and Victorian way. But I suppose other specters may want to carry them in a rucksack. As for me, I like doing it the *proper* way."
Mrs Crocombe is only helping them make this video!
Ahh Mrs. Crocombe, you Sorceress you! Cook by day and villainess by night! Your hell hound is a good looking pup!
What a nice surprise to see the lovely Kathy Hipperson in a different role. 😍
You are quite a talented actress, Madame, and I hope to see many more English Heritage history videos. This is one of the most interesting channels on RUclips; and I'm not even of English heritage.
Same
We're so pleased you enjoy the channel, Elle-Iza!
Lots of you have been asking about the illustrations that feature in this series. They're the work of artist and illustrator Clive Hicks-Jenkins, who has also worked on our forthcoming book of new folktale, myth and legend, titled These Our Monsters: www.english-heritageshop.org.uk/books-media/these-our-monsters-the-english-heritage-book-of-new-folktale-myth-and-legend
You can see more of Clive's work, and a video about how he produced our interactive myths map, at www.english-heritage.org.uk/tellingtales
As someone who has become a widow twice, I can see how it would be easy to start rumours like this.
And legends say that after this video, Lady Braybrooke found a fingernail in one of Mrs Crocombes pies
a meat pie perchance?
@@bun04y yeah like mrs Lovett's beautiful meat pies, courtesy of Sweeney Todd
How DO these rumors get started! It was actually a dog hair in the pudding.
@@dawnschaeffer5728 now THAT is just evil, with all the meat from those plump chaps walking around, and you go for the cutsie wittle doggo? 👎
@@jelloled its fop...finest in the shop or perhaps sheperds pie peppered with actual sheperd on top?
That’s an odd curse, indeed. Especially the part with the dog and the blade of grass.
Rara Avis yep, it’s a curse that will never be completed, so she’s forever doomed.
I mean have you ever tried landscaping,it is its own form of eternal sweaty hades,
Wonderful tales, very interesting. In this case, it shows the versatility of Kathy as an actress. Although, I think of her most often as Mrs. Crocombe.
I clicked as soon as I saw the thumbnail of Kathy Hipperson. How could I pass up the opportunity to see her play another character?
Well isn't that the cutest hellhound I ever saw!😘🐕
Love the actress aka mrs Crocombe and the other actors and the professor at the end.
😊👍
I visit okehampton every few months to see my grandparent. I'll try and spot her next time I'm down there ;)
Oh yes, do! And please let us know if you see her!
Have you visited the castle? I'm in Canada. We are a "new" country so we have none of the rich history of Europe and the UK. I'm always just blown away when they speak of a castle from the 10th ~ 11th century or a church that's been in use for 400 years! We just don't have that here.
Jenn 💖 in Canada 🇨🇦
And tell her im a big fam if mrs crocombes
I live here!
Oooh, now it's Creepy Mrs. Crocombe! More tales, please!
YES PLEASE! This was AWESOME! :)
Mrs. Crocombe being all spooky!
Punishing those who dare make puddings in a turbot kettle
How DARE anyone wrong Mrs Crocombe! No pudding for them!
They shall be boiled inside a turbot kettle
Omg please more ghostly tales of England 😍
I hope they would have something really delightful for Halloween.
What a wonderful presentation. And I thoroughly enjoyed Kathy's acting in this.
Love the way the story was portrayed, and love Professor Hutton!
For this tale you will need...
Perfect for these autumn evenings
What fun! But I think the dog stole the show!
Kathy is like dough for how she adapts the shape of every character she's given.
@rip Natsuki - Acting!
I'm Indonesian and I really like watching this channel. About this folklore, it's second content that i really like after mrs crocombe cooked with victorian style. Big love from Indonesia!
That was really interesting! Thanks English Heritage.
P.S do Lord and Lady Braybroke know that Mrs Crocombe moonlights as a guide at Okehampton Castle? 🤔😂
@Amina Jane Ishaq - "Moonlight" being the key word!
Omg please make this an ongoing series or at least do more for October omg amazing video love English Heritage! Ugh Mrs. Crocombe is a snatched queen as usual. 💀🖤
Thanks Rhiannon, we're glad you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for episode 6 soon...
I love the level of creepiness of this. Not so creepy it freaks me out, but prompting a lovely shiver down the spine! And with a touch of wistfulness, mischief, and magic. Thanks and well done to everyone involved. ✨🍁
Great work. Love how you put in the tale then explain afterwards. Fun job!
I'd love to see more episodes like this that explore the legends of England.
Our next episode is coming soon - stay tuned!
The art is lovely in this series. I love that we get to explore other sites we wouldn't otherwise see. And I love learning about the local folk tales... Thanks English Heritage! :)
We're glad you like it! The art is the work of Clive Hicks-Jenkins, who also illustrated our interactive online map of folklore: mythsmap.english-heritage.org.uk
I love seeing Mrs Crocombe acting as other characters but still the best at cooking
Kathy Hipperson: (plays a variety of characters in her work as a historical interpreter)
The Internet: Mrs. Crocombe!!!
Oh! Hello dear Prof. Hutton! Pleasure to see you.❤️
Yes! More of these please. For the upcoming season. 👻
It’s always a good time to spend watching this amazing RUclips channel. I really like these stories and how they are interpreted and explained. Thank you and keep teaching us please 🌸
Love a good storytime...
Wonderful tale !!!
God bless Mrs C. , please grant some other lassies a chance to show their talents !
Pray forgive me , Mrs.C. ❤️
Wow the cook has chilling range. Absolutely love the actress. She is amazing.
???: for Halloween recipe, you will need:
omg this was done so well! the way the narrator and the actress sold this story!
I really really REALLY love these. I've been subbed to this channel for almost two years now and I have to say, it's my favorite to go to when I want a little taste of what it was like in this era. My favorite are the cooking shows.
The music in the background goes beautifully in accordance with the explanation in the videos, i love every video of this channel so much
-Love from India:)
Very Good telling of this tale which is new to me. Wonderful!
These are so fun to watch...love them!!🧐😊
Wonderful !!! May I have some more, please ???
Mrs Crocombe é Uatu, the Watcher. She is present in all stories, in all time lines. She is the guardian of the Time Stone
"oh you have scared me. Now you have finally arrived, today we will marinate a dead body"
YAY! I've so been looking forward to another! ^_^ My favorite yet!!!
Thank you for this video ; this is as always a pleasure to learn through English Heritage.
Mrs Crocombe is even more my hero now. What a queen.
Great pre Halloween season story. Love, love, love your folktale stories. More, please.
I still don't know how I came upon this channel all those months ago but I really enjoy it lol This one is very well done, I like that it was explained afterwards too. And the dog was so cute!
So she went through four husbands, unusual but other people did that too..we don’t know all the details. The hellhound was a nice touch. She’s probably just some minor noble who was blessed with good health
Just in time for Halloween!
Great historic content! Thank you xx
Kathy, you are such an excellent actress!
I love these, they're so interesting! Keep up the good work!
I love the folklore videos! More of these and Prof. Hutton, please!
Next episode coming very soon, Ellen! Be sure to subscribe.
@@EnglishHeritage I'm subsribed!! Wouldn't dream of not being. What if I miss a cooking video. 😱😅
great work....and Mrs C what a treat
This channel is so unique, I love it. TYVM
Thanks looking forward to the next one.
I’m so focused about that dog! It’s so cute!
Love it!!! More of this please!
I love these videos!
The editing is top notch as always
Most excellent storytelling and video interpretation. Cheers, Ardith
This was so cool~☆
It was so well directed~☆
Fabulous! Love the variety. But I did sort of expect...look for😘...an apron to materialize lol! Thank you EH🎃💯🇬🇧
Please feature more local legends. I'm feeling the halloween vibe. Halloween is coming! Please do a halloween special. Thanks.
Oh my goodness, so thoroughly enjoyable. That Mrs. C does spend her days off in the oddest fashion. Also -- bring back the doggy!
Does anybody else find the melody strangely calming and beautiful?
Best channel ever!!
This is exquisitely done! 👌
I love this series
I love these stories 💕
I am not even British, but I do love this Chanel ❤🍀
I love this! Please keep the ghost stories coming up to Halloween!
Beautiful visuals!
Came for the Kathy Hipperson, did not leave disappointed.
Love this serious!
Bravo! I absolutely adore Ms Hipperson.. is that her personal dog?
So intriguing to see Mrs Crocombe outside the kitchen.
I enjoyed this video and enjoy seeing Kathy playing other characters, her talents show. I also enjoyed the part of the historian at the end giving us some history on the folklore. The power of rumors, the common folk making up stuff, eventually a "lie" repeated a thousand times becomes a fact when everybody around the subject is repeating what "must be the truth". I wonder what other things in folklore / tales were born due to people misinterpreting someone's else's life. I'd be like "Oi, mind your business.".
the animation is epic!
Hello Mrs Crocombe, fancy seeing you here
Kathy is just pure gold
It's good to see Kathy playing so many different roles .
So interesting 😀
wonderful! 👏
This was great! I hope you decide to do more of these ghost stories for Halloween season.
Stay tuned for the next episode soon, Camellia...
This could perfectly be Cradle of Filth lyrics, love it haha
I don't like to think of Mrs Crocombe being wronged! (Actually, that's a lie😜)
