In this episode:
Opening day of big game season is busy for Montana's Game Wardens. Follow along as they patrol the Bitterroot game area. Plus, the wardens set up a sting to catch poachers, complete with a moving decoy.
When your job is protecting our most precious natural resources in some of the nation’s most remote areas, there is rarely a dull moment. Wardens chronicles the lives of Conservation Officers in America. The show features the men and women who protect public lands, from ride-alongs on interstate game checks, to anti-poaching sting operations; from remote snowmobile trails in grizzly bear country, to unforgiving white-water rapids. While the focus of Wardens is enforcement of regulations, the show takes special precautions to ensure the general public understand those who would violate the rules are the minority and the vast majority of encounters with our Wardens are law-abiding citizens.

Had a coworker hit 4 bighorns that jumped off a hill in front of him on a curve north of sula
Killed 3 on impact. I was following, nothing he could do to avoid it. We called game warden to report and when they arrived my friend was treated like a criminal that did this on purpose. Totally shocked by their response. It was a damn good thing I was there as a witness to the incident or it probably wouldn’t have went well for him. Still can’t believe how it was handled.
Yea they can be POS’s to good people sometimes and makes good people not care for them
Guilty until proven innocent.
Back in the 90s I was talking and laughing with a Warden back in Florida about his decoy and all the bullet holes in it. Ran into him again the next morning and it was in a hundred pieces! I asked what happened and he said it was set up about a hundred yards off the road and had a pickup truck stow and pass by it about 3-4 times. The last time he watched and recorded him pass, make a u-turn several hundred yards further than he had the previous u-turns. He thought maybe he was letting a passenger out to take a shot but the truck started coming back at full speed before gunning it and crashing through the ditch and fence and running the decoy over! LMAO! Poacher didn’t have his rifle on him and so he decided he was gonna run it down and run it over!! LOL
He wasn't a poacher obviously. You have to shoot a real animal illegally for it to be poaching
The Warden looking after the Youth Hunt, is awesome for that Program. He has a real good understanding about how kids operate. I wish we could see him meet up, with a Youth out in the field. Just to see, how he interacts with a child who has harvested their first deer. Another reason why this Warden is so good. He understands the importance of the Game Warden being nice and helpful with the kids
I was walking out of the woods after dark while hunting in NYS and there was a game warden waiting at my vehicle. He asked if my rifle was loaded and I said no sir and handed it to him, it was a bolt action rifle. He looked it over and asked where the bolt was and I told him it was in my pocket and showed it to him, he looked at me and said, "I'm impressed".
I've always had good encounters game wardens.
That decoy wasn’t even moving and he still shot it 🤣
You would have done the same
@@jayoutdoors1534not everyone is as dumb as you 😂😂😂
I can guarantee you that that kid is the one who pulled the trigger on that Elk. The dads gun was the 300 WSM and the kids gun was that .243. Those were likely the kids practice shots also. The father took the fall for it.
As a father should since he allowed kiddo to break the law...he was teaching that kid to kill for nothing ...bad dad
I will have to agree with you on that!! I do bet his wife wasn't happy!! He took the rap so maybe that saved his bacon!!
I grew up in the Bitterroot Valley up the Skalkaho. We used to hunt less than a mile from the house (now the Skalkaho Steakhouse) in the mtns to the south. There was a herd that migrated across our property every year. There is an Indian sign rock that has several elk depicted. Very cool place to be a kid!
I now live in Great Falls after 50 years in Colo. Springs.
I’m currently trying to be a Game Warden// Wildlife officer. Made it to the third round of interviews with 1100 people applying for 20-22 jobs with 55 of us left. Please pray for me, it’s my goal to be one of these fine gentleman upholding wilderness law!
Thank you
Good luck brother. You got it 💪🏽
Hope you will be a good one good luck
theres better jobs out there
I’ve thought about doing the same after I got out of the military but I never followed through. This show really makes me reconsider.
What state
I was a NC Wildlife Officer for a few years in my twenties. This is a good officer. He is firm but not full of himself. He enforces the law and lets people maintain some dignity. There is no need to belittle anyone even when they get a little mouthy. You need a thick skin in law enforcement.
I have lived in N.C now for 6 years and have never run in a officer
@@danielfiscus7658 I checked old men that said they had never been checked in their life and the next guy asks why he got checked so often. It can be pretty random for both sides.
@@jonnooney7102 yea I’m from Indiana and ran in to them every year fishing and hunting but haven’t hear

Im looking to become an NC wildlife officer Myself.
I have had positive experience with wardens in my state checked my license and let me slide when I had forgot my hunters safety card in my other jacket that was at home. This particular warden even pointed me toward some deer and I ended up killing a nice 5x4 mulie 30 minutes after talking to him!
I was hunting just west of the bitterroot in the selway in idaho and the warden stopped us and asked us for our hunting licenses and we handed it to him and he said we had the wrong license they sold us a archery tag with rifle season dates on it. Clearly a screw up at the call agency but wouldn't let us hunt, we drove to idaho from Pennsylvania over 35 hr drive. We sat there for 4 days with no outcome drove home and they called us in ohio and told us we could hunt. That warden could of used some common sence and said these guys obviously wasnt pulling a fast one and wouldn't of screwed our hunt up if he cared for the sport.
*sense
Hahaha ha ha ha ha ha you got to be joking 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I reported a dead deer with head cut off a few years ago down the road from my home, no camera crew was available to make a movie , so nothing was investigating.
Thank you Captain for doing your job so well. I no longer hunt because of health issues but had hunted a few years in Montana and was able to take my first Bull Elk there. If there wasn’t men and women such as yourself, protecting the fish and game resources of Montana, hunters wouldn’t get the opportunities the do.
There ain’t no better place in the world than the Bitterroot Valley in Montana. Never had a bad experience with a game warden or fwp employee. The cops are always professional, and the people are great. The scenery is heavenly! I maybe a bit prejudiced, as I am a longtime resident.
i'm an import to Mt since 2007 and i agree 100% with your assessment. good times
Says the Californian buying all our land
I was raised there and its great but cops are not the best
This show isn’t even in the Bitterroot. First few minutes in they’re talking about Cascade County. The Bitterroot Valley is nice but lots of traffic.

Chasing down a legal hunter hunting 😂😂😂
Boy, oh boy, they sure treat ya like a criminal right off the bat.
You're a good man Jeff! You carry yourself well.
Wardens behaving themselves on camera is priceless. Off camera? From my experience they are without a doubt looking to cite you for anything. I've never been ticketed but never really had a good experience with them
Never had a bad experience with Wardens, all over the state. Fishing and Hunting there’s some bad ones for sure but 90% of them are nice and just out to do their jobs and feed their families
Job well done guys.
Got a feeling that guy's son shot the elk with the 243
Thanks!
Never met a game warden that gave me a positive light, but instead I felt like a convict that was being questioned. Two that I have met did not eeven know what the law was that we were discusing.
Yeap they are all a bunch of idiots that love harassing hunters.
I work with wardens, they don't want to be playing games as much as you don't want to be hassled by them.... but they usually talk to people for a reason, usually to piece together a bad situation
@@robgraham7238 No they dont. I have 2 really good friends that are high up in the DNR and I can tell you for a fact, they are always looking at the easiest way to write someone a ticket. A warden is the same as the cop that sets behind the bushes along the highway. He is just there to bust someone.
Same man. I agree there should be laws but sometimes I’m like lighten up. The fact there’s a show about catching hunters and not criminals on the street is crazy to me lol.
@@CalebEdwards-dr6sf Thats because criminals on the street get off, but when you get a ticket from the DNR good luck because you are sunk most of the time.
Even though I’ve had a bad encounter with a game warden that tried to get me to admit to something I didn’t do, which she had a reputation of harassing hunters, I give them props. They know every person they’re going to encounter during hunting season has a weapon.
So what? It’s like the safest job ever. Imagine being a construction worker. Way more dangerous
@@danielstrother2494if a warden has to deal with someone like you, it ain’t safe

I would bet a weeks pay THE BOY took the bull. Dad took the fall. -- pretty obvious....
For sure. 300 mag in the truck and the dad chooses to shoot a trophy bill with a 243. No way, he took that bullet for his son

My grandpa was a game warden in Utah
20 acre lots in Western Montana! That's like a grain of sand in a desert. How sad
My first time hunting me and my buddy ran into the game warden 1 week before season opened. We were on the reservation. We stopped smoked a bowl with the game warden and his nephews. (They were hunting out of season )and had a beer with them and then continued hunting. A few minutes later we heard them Shooting.
Dan infalt talks bout them kinda guys @ 8:10 hahahahahaha.

It's ALL LOVE NWL!!! ❤️❤️❤️✔️💯
Good job . I like the game warden calm attitude, very professionally work on the case. He deserved a pay raise. The young man learned his lessen.
The first warden is the type that acts like you’re doing something wrong whether you are or not
I think the game Wardens seem incredibly tolerant , well mannered and graceful while doing tough work . Great place to work if you know what you're doing! ❤ Montana 🐎
Game wardens that treat honest auto drivers as poachers Should go to JAIL.
They should go to the Sitz Angus ranch in Harrison Mt them guys like to haze the elk to keep them on the ranch during season
Like ALL law enforcement agencies, be 100% compliant with them!! Your day won't be "so bad". I was stupid once. Wardens, believe me or not, are protecting what we love....from the bad
Typically people who don’t like game wardens are people who are doing something they’re not suppose to. Never had an issue with a game warden because I’m not doing anything shady or questionable
Same here and I agree with you
Unless your in Colorado 😂 where 90% percent of douch bag wardens graduate from boulder and want to reintroduce wolfs 😂😂
Just read the comments and you can find out real quick who doesn’t need hunting license.

This warden seems to be ok. Here where I live the wardens are mostly arrogant and treat everyone like they are a criminal before even checking to see if the hunter has done anything much less illegal. I know they cant be friends with anyone but a little professional courtesy would go a long way. Hunters can make mistakes it doesnt mean they all are criminals. Ive made a mistake or to where i read the manual wrong. The manuals we have are worded funny and hard to interpret. But when I did I owned up to it and paid my fine. I went to the DNR office to renew a boat license and there must have been a hundred wardens there for a conference or something and not one spoke and they all looked at me like I was something they scraped off their boot. It doesn't have to be that way.
I use to live in Texas ...I was a texas Ranger for 7 and a half years... iv seen a little bit of everything
Does the name Burson sound familiar ??
I can really appreciate this mans work he is a great warden and im glad hes out there fighting crime
That was too bad, but you truly have to follow the rules.
Here where we live you better not lie to em either. About anything. He is not going to ask questions that he doesn't already know.
Kid is deadly with that .243. Can’t believe he shot that bull with a .243
Elephants have been killed with a gun of that size. If inside 10 yards and a perfectly placed shot.
Why wouldn’t you attach the tag to the rack???!! Honest question!
How much do the Fine the Wolves that kill all the Wild Life and the Live Stock ?

They kill the wolf's lol 😆
@@WholeSomeHomie No they don't Wolves are Protected by the Federal Government because the Government wants to destroy Ranchers and discourage Hunters.
Montana born and raised big ranches that outfit us helicopters trucks are utv horse to haze elk onto and keep elk on ther property because it's big $$$$$$$$ $20,000 for a bull elk they break the law all season.
I absolutely love this show and I would absolutely love to be a fishing game and hunting warden for any state I would love to do it.
These guys are even harassing the kids 😂😂
Bryan Golie at least from these videos seems like a really good Warden. He's not out there trying to screw over good hunters. Trying to follow the laws. Good Game Wardens do a lot of educating. Some of the information he is giving is hard to find. You should be able to call a good game warden. Ask them what the local laws are and be given that information.
Every state needs more young hunters
The game wardens in this video are truly good people and they are very light handed. Just wish the one's I encounter in the field would be the same. I try to follow Montana's laws but am always worried that I am doing something wrong anytime I go out to enjoy our outdoor lifestyle. I have lived in Montana my whole life but am always second guessing myself and the small print of our laws. There is just to many rules....
It's because they are being filmed. They're not going to scare people away with all the money outdoors bring to the state
How do you know they are good men? Because I put on a show for a video? I have some news for you. Anyone that wears a badge is not your friend, is not there to help you, not there to give you advice but they are there to take your money and handed over to the state. They fall in the blue line gang also. They are there for two reasons. First is because they want to have power over someone and 2 is to collect money for the state just like I said before.
@@mtguy234 bs cameras don't bother them when you do it legally. ask 1st and respect distances.
@@justinsnow5621 no fool, ask before interjecting yourself into the situation. if the stop is not directly connected with you, don't try to change it to you and your camera fetish.
I read all the comments with all the complaints I read about the game wardens doesn’t the state pay any attention to what people say. I think a general strike against hunting in certain areas is needed to make a point. If the public objects strongly enough it gets in the newspaper where people talk about it everywhere. Put their pictures on posters so the public is aware of who the troublemakers among the wardens are. Don’t go in their areas even if it’s a whole state. Complain up to the federal level. It’s true poaching is a problem. So is trespassing. When it goes beyond that your rights are violated. It your not poaching or trespassing and your bothered something has to be done. Isolating the problem and fighting back as a group helps. Raise the profile of the problem to a high enough level that the public will notice the unethical problem in their midst.
Wow he got off easy
The commentator sounds like Luke Bryan lol
Your a legend, you know your doing right when haters start lol My son and I will be down for a hunt, absolutely!!
thats why on my ranch ya have to sign in name license plate truck and coulor and other all on paper but that sask canada
Don’t answer questions, don’t give them evidence to prosecute YOU with.
They make it as hard and confusing as they can to make the most “busts” and fees
There’s nothing a game warden can do to you as long as you are hunting on public land, in the proper unit, or private with permission, during the season, during shooting hours, with the proper license, with a legal gun, and making sure you take a legal shot at a legal animal, making sure you tag it immediately and leave the sex evidence on the carcass. Other than that, it’s easy.
Nice game wardens
You do good work
Good job 👍👍🦌
The Jerks love taking the game away
He cut that head a little short for a good mount
What’s the first warden’s problem
I just wonder how a “man “ can be proud of wonderful animal he shot completely illegally. And make his kid part of it. So much more satisfying to follow the rules
Hunt wardens would be a good show
How can people not tell that’s a decoy? Are they that dumb? I’ve never seen an animal stand so perfectly still that long. An ear, tail or something will move some
Who, in their right mind, would use a .243
on an elk?
Damn 2 days!! Wtf I wish they did that in Oregon! 😂😂
ifs alway nice to have good game warden there few and far between
I in my 63 years have never hunted big game ive fished but not hunted.
We have rules and regulations regarding taking of wild game the reason we have the game to take is its regulated. Other nations do not let you hunt or fish, you have a limit
Take your limit and only your limit.
Others would like to hunt, your grandchildren would like to hunt.
Pay for the tags and be respectful to other people's property
Do not trepass to hunt get permission to remove a kill off private property. Just because you took it down dosnt give the right to trepass to collect it.
If someone shots wild game on public land and jumps onto your property give them permission to remove it.
Coyotes are NOT big game, you can hunt them anytime.
Sure, on public or property you have permission to hunt….
If I heard this correct, the Bull Elk was shot in the shoulder with a .243.. I don’t believe a shoulder hit with a .243 would kill a large Bull.
Have you used one? I've killed three elk with a 243, granted I used partition bullets. But it is possible if your careful
243 is a fast round. it has the penetration it just doesn't leave a good enough wound channel or blood trail to be considered ethical, but it will kill no doubt.
Shot placement is the key, a 243 with proper bullets is deadly
😂 you can kill a moose with one. Shot placement means more than what you're shooting and what you're using.
Don’t care for any of them, most are rude and try to make up any violations to nail you
