  • The Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar Island) are one of the best places in Iceland to see puffins. We visited Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi , and the Westman Islands on day 2 of our 10 day Ring Road Itinerary in Iceland.
We explore the best things to do on the Westman Islands, including: The Puffin Lookout at Stórhöfði Cape, Hiking Eldfell Volcano, Hiking Heimaklettur Mountain, Visiting the Eldheimar Museum and visiting the Elephant Rock.
The largest puffin colony in all of Europe is on Vestmannaeyjar Island. If you love puffins and want to guarantee a sighting during the summer months, make sure to visit this island.
You can visit the Westman Islands on a day trip by ferry or you can stay overnight. The ferries depart from Landeyjahöfn 7 times per day. The ferry from Landeyjahöfn to Heimaey is 35-40 minutes one way.
