The seven promises given to St Bridget of Sweden for those who devote themselves to her Seven Sorrows.
    1. I will grant peace to their families.
    2. They will be enlightened about the Divine Mysteries.
    3. I will console them in their pains, and I will accompany them in their work.
    4. I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my Divine Son or the sanctification of their souls.
    5. I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives.
    6. I will visibly help them at the moment of their death-they will see the face of their mother.
    7. I have obtained this grace from my divine Son, that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and dolors will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness, since all their sins will be forgiven and my Son and I will be their eternal consolation and joy.

My father lived through the Great Depression as a boy and teen. His mother would lock my Dad and his 3 brothers out of the house all day most every day because she had no food for them. My dad nearly died because his parents could not afford medical care for him, so he walked himself to the doctor at age 12 and begged the doctor for help. He needed a tonsillectomy. His parents were going to let him die due to their pride about asking for/ receiving charity. He was sent off to work camps for teens to earn money to send back to his parents so his parents could eat. Lived in a tent while at work camp. Had to serve in WWII, Korea, Vietnam. I don't know how he could be so strong. Here I am in a home with food, medical care, heating/air conditioning, running water, an adequate income, and the Catholic faith (which my Dad did not have, yet he was a believer in Christ). I'm scared out of my wits these days. How did previous generations, like my Dad's, carry on? I think maybe because most everyone was at least a believer in Jesus Christ, Catholic or another denomination. Nowadays, Christianity itself is under severe attack. That's the difference. Our faith is even more important than any physical trials and tribulations like starvation and war. Without the faith, we are doomed.
