I run the joyo American sound into my katana artist effects loop with a fender pugilist distortion in front for some great punk, hard rock and grunge tones. Recently got the joyo argos overdrive and put that in front of the the pugilist to get some tight metal tones too. Still able to run delay, reverb and global eqs from the Katana. Tend to prefer the tones from this set up compared to any of the patches I've tweaked.
As a harmonica player, the Joyo/Ammoon/Irin "American Sound" (which costs the equivalent of 3 pints of beer at any bar in my area) is the best bang for buck pedal I've ever used. Contrary to anyone's logical thinking, I start with ALL controls at zero, then bring up the volume, then bring up the 'voice' (middle knob on bottom row). I keep the 'drive' set to minimum and the voice is anywhere between 3 o'clock and 5 o'clock. Volume is adjusted to whatever one prefers. That's right, leaving the bass/middle/treble left at minimum make this pedal sound really great. But the good thing is that the adjustable range of the bass, mid & treble is fairly broad. And finally, the pedal does not eat batteries!
I own several Fenders, and a Mesa. I originally downplayed the use of the Joyo American, mainly because it was a cheap pedal. Using it in combination with any of my amps gives me a wonderful tone. Turning up the Voice setting, gets you a wonderfully sweet”Tweed” tone. It sounds I’m like I’m preaching the gospel of the Joyo American pedal…and I’m not sure many people would believe it, but this thing in front of an amp gives me more of what I need in a gain/overdrive/EQ pedal than any other pedal I’ve ever tried… and I’ve tried way too many!
I use the American pedal for very light live gigs where I have to plug direct to the PA. It's great to have that EQ and volume control. I would like to try the TC for the added reverb. Like three pedals in one with that boost. Excellent video!
Great job, thanks a lot, I run the Joyo too; paid it 20 euros only used and will never sell it... always listen to good review of it.... Sure one of the best pedal made those past years ! Rock on ;-)
Great choice for a comparison. I tried (and returned) the Joyo due to it being a bit noisy and a bit one-dimensional as compared with the brilliant VS Audio Blackbird (the smaller version), which really does a far better job at giving one a Brownface and a Blackface in a box. Best of all, it‘s all-analogue - unlike the TC (which to my ears sounds sort of OK, but not real), and it is hugely more responsive and immediate-feeling than the Joyo. That all said, I have since graduated to the likes of the ToneX pedal, the Two Notes Opus, and - most recently - the Fender Tone Master Pro. Totally different animals, of course, but brilliant, all three of them. Would still wholeheartedly recommend the Blackbird. The Joyo is great for what it is, though, and a tad cheaper for those on a tight budget.
Love the comparison videos! Those Joyo pedals really do sound good. I think I prefer the sound of it based on your demo. Looking forward to the drive video!!
The joyo cleans up and thickens the sound of amps and pedals very well. The joyo is always on my board for tone shaping. The combo deluxe 65 sounds great on its own, but if you want to really beef up the sound, then just throw that joyo in front of it. 🔥
great video! you may have answered this (im watching while washing up) does the JOYO have a cab sim?? i do love the tc ampworx i've been gigging w it for the past 3 wks and its not let me down yet!
For the price of the Combo Deluxe 65 you can buy 2 Joyo (American Sound OR AC Tone OR the British Sound) AND a (cheap) reverb pedal AND another Joyo overdrive pedal for the maximum flexability. I DO like the Combo Deluxe 65, but the American Sound is equally good for a fraction of the price.
Thanks for the comparison. I had the TC and even with the Firmware update I didn't like the clean sound. It sounded too digital. I have been looking for backup to my Tech 21 Blonde which is my go to DI solution. I love the Tech 21 as it is all analogue and can smooth out any harshness or floppiness with the character knob. I had owned the Joyo American Sound before the T21. The T21 has more clean headroom than the Joyo, quieter and is more 'hi-fi'. I loved the TC when I first got and the reverb is fantastic. There was something I didn't quite bond with, certainly wasn't 'spongy', very bright and amazing for some styles. The TC didnt sound great with my Fulltone FD2, the T21 did. MY Gibson CS336 didnt sound 'buttery' through the TC but could with T21. I realise the Joyo is a clone but I'm going to buy the Joyo for back up as it is a great back-up.
Hi Rod, Interesting comparison. Both have their plus and minus. Look forward to hearing which way you go with this. Do you know what the Celestion IR speaker type is? How much influence do you think that IR choice is shaping the TC's sound?
I use the Joyo for all guitar on my backing tracks. DI into an audio interface, any effects applied using the DAW. Sounds great, works well and as reliable as anything! 😊🙌
It’s not about being fair. I have the Joyo on my live board at the moment, running directly into the PA and am very happy with sound for solo/duo work. I wanted to see if the TC was any better. It has more features, sure, but it isn’t 3 times better. The Joyo is simple, reliable (so far!) and sounds good.
I wish Joyo would rerelease the Sound series with speaker sim disable. I know people can do the mods but not everyone is skilled with a soldering iron.
It’s funny, because I have a blues deluxe tube amp that is my go to for most gigs, but solo/duo stuff it is replace with the Joyo at the end of my pedalboard and I’m really happy with my direct sound!

Great video and comparison! The Joyo is a great sleeper pedal for sure. I have the Joyo AC 30 style pedal and it’s awesome. Cheers from the USA! 🇺🇸

This is a great comment! Great info to! Thanks for sharing mate!!
Very nice comparison, thank you very much.
I have the Joyo American and I am thinking of getting a Boss IR-2 as it has more voices.

It’s such amazing value… and it’s such a killer sound!!! Sometimes I just can’t wrap my head around how cheap and amazing this pedal is!

Great video. I'm super jealous of that Ibanez Lukather model. That's such a sleeper guitar. Can be gotten for $1k, unbelievable!!!
it took me 35 years to get one!

The Joyo cab sim is part of the voicing. It’s not switchable. I’m gigging with it as a preference to a lot of other options.

I was thinking about getting the TC. A mate has one and gets killer tones with his Tele

@@thepedalpicassos his channel is amazing :)
wasn't expecting to find you here - fantastic tracks, thank you
@@pipotheriumthanks man, yeah, I get around a bit on occasion! 😂🙌
Have you been able to try the new firmware update?
Thats because the joyo is a basically mid-at-11 tone.
There's that sweet Ibanez again.
I use the joyo voice almost fully left. Not a fan of tight low end. Flabby and farty all day long.
Not really a fair comparison considering the tc goes for $149 vs $40

Steve Lukather nice guitar
Sure is!
Ibanez SL1010🤤
Joyo is much more mid focus

Ask a friend to do it. It's not hard at all
👍
The JOYO IMO sounds like a pedal and nothing like a real amp.. The TC however is far closer to the real thing
It’s funny, because I have a blues deluxe tube amp that is my go to for most gigs, but solo/duo stuff it is replace with the Joyo at the end of my pedalboard and I’m really happy with my direct sound!
Maybe it's more important that it sounds good or better than a direct emulation?
