Is the Constitution as Dead as that Parrot? | Doug Wilson

- There is now a debate raging over whether or not the Constitution is a dead document. Some say that it is and some say that it isn’t. I am, in the main (qualifications soon to follow), on the side of those who say that it is.

May more of us seek Christ and salvation before God the Father sends His wrath upon us.
Father God we thank your for your great love and mercy toward our country, May Your kingdom come and Your will be done here, and may Your word touch the hearts of the many that don't know You.
When the same country that has sent more missionaries to the world than perhaps any in history can no longer define what a woman, man or family is, then one can easily conclude, that nation has completely lost its way. We are NOW under God's judgement, the question is whether or not we repent!
Thank you Pastor
Where's the link for Ride Sally Ride? When the little black box popped up no link is included.
Link is now in the description. Enter your email address and eventually you will receive a link to download the ebook.
Thanks! Excited to go read!!
@@hollymyers3395 You're welcome. Same here.
Amen Doug🙏
Thank you.
It is so hard to remember our enemies are not our Father’s image bearers.
It is only by our Fathers grace & mercy that I can see & understand this & that He chose to open my eyes & give me understanding.
Without Him I would have been blind & retarded until the end.
My heart needs to be more tender toward his image bearers & more disgusted by the blinding& twisting of the minds of all who have not yet been untwisted & given sight. Knowing full well it is but for the grace of God that I am no longer one of them.
Apparently there are people who are struggling with this logic.
The thing about the law, particularly laws of men, and especially the written law, is that it's mandatory on all human subjected to it, provided it's neither prohibiting or requiring whatever Jesus commands or prohibits, respectively. Why? Because Jesus said so. Paul said that laws and authorities like that are authorized by Christ and that humans are to obey them as if to Christ.
The US Constitution, being the supreme national law, says nothing contrary to Christ's commandments. Just because there are humans that He allows to be temporarily empowered to disobey that law doesn't mean that law has become useless. The law is fine. It's the humans that disobey.
Perhaps these disobedient humans are sinning so much nowadays that a more strict and powerful human law is needed in order to create greater restrictions on evil. That is Christ's prerogative, not ours.
Our prerogative is to advance liberty from the human core via the gospel out to the fringes of society via laws that punish anyone who would attempt to hamper the gospel.
The current law does that, although many disobey it. They'll reap totalitarianism, if they get too wild, sure.
But Christians should never pontificate about a good law being nothing or "dead." Natural man will always rush to disobey a good law. God's people do a disservice to our neighbors and an effrontery to the Most High God by eschewing a good law as essentially worthless.
Sure, there's rampant and tyrannical disobedience - from the highest halls of power to the lowest dregs of society. That is a work of the devil. Christians gotta work against the devil's chaos. As for us, the modus operandi should be "decently and in good order."
That's just as important as not taking the bait..
Would love to have the 9th and 10th Amendments back.
And the 1st. And the 2nd. And the 4th and 5th. Come to think of it the 3rd is the only one that hasn't been violated recently.
Has been for a while. Its just more blatant now.
True
Brilliantly stated! Thank you!
This is why I never argue about the constitution anymore.
Amen!
Thanx Brother♥️🙏🏻🇺🇸
Thank you! The Constitution is alive and well, instead the people are dead... Like Alexis de Tocqueville wrote, america is great because the people are good, when America ceases to be good it will cease to be great.
Oh, if every preacher would say such things!
I would only add, and I know you've talked about this before, that our declaration of Independence was the writing down of the common Christian culture of 1776. I guess there is a reason why they called it the spirit of 76. And that is what I believe is the very foundation of our country. Any government whether it be articles of confederation or our present Constitution that does not fit upon the foundation of our declaration of Independence is not by definition an American government. We as Americans need to embrace our declaration of Independence and the ideals that it in shrines or we are not genuine americans.
I agree 100% with everything this man said. I want to live in a decentralized constitutional republic with Christian norms and customs.
Pastor Doug is a treasure
Every video Doug posts seems to be more and more removed from reality and history.
Perhaps a portion of our current cultural dilemmas in the USA is due to the secularists being far, far more religiously devoted to their wicked gods than Christians have been devoted to the LORD of lords, Jesus Christ.
Plus +2 points for Ride Sally Ride. I had just started another listen through late last week. Very fun listen!
Amen God bless America

Just adding to the chorus noting there is no working link for that free e-book, Doug and crew, making my mood less Moscow, more Berlin.
EDIT: The link that has been added to the description adds a "WELCOME10" code to the Canon shopping cart, but still no free ebook. When I manually search for the book at Canon, it is only available in paperback or audio.
Second EDIT: The discount code above is where you are redirected once you enter your email address. I assumed this was an error, but lo and behold, a link to download the ebook appeared in my email. It may take some time after using the provided link, but eventually your patience will be rewarded with a sparkly new ebook. Thank you, Doug and Canon Press.

I dream that this is somehow due to a comment I left on a Wade Stott video.
Building a new constitution on the bones of the old sounds a lot like a tell.
Does anyone have the link for the book?
Link is now in the description. Enter your email address and eventually you will receive a link to download the ebook.
I see. Procedurally the constitution still applies, but the culture and beliefs that make it work are gone.
An interesting observation. I agree with you. The "Judeo-Christian" culture that began (historically) with Constantine, continues with Luther, taken over by the Enlightenment, all ended with WWI. By 1925 it was gone. And it will never return. Additionally, (I contend) we are better off without it. Doug seems to try to recreate some pre-WWI world that, when it was actualized, caused millions upon millions of Christians to kill other Christians (called the European Wars of Religion). In fact this was the reason James Madison said: “The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked
the soil of Europe in blood for centuries.” In the US, what Doug is referring back to, and pining for its return, never was.
Just finished age of entitlement interesting

Repent, just like the prophets told Israel before they were taken down by Babylon. I’m raising my kids hoping for a repentant nation but prepared to be Daniels under Nebuchadnezzar.
Did I hear him right, that the Enfranchisement of Women is considered an evil?
I hope so.
@@Chief_Of_Sinners how is that a biblical standard?
Paul said he doesn’t allow a woman to exercise authority over a man.
@@ianlamb5883 yes and ? What does that have to do with voting?
You did. I am not sure if Doug fits this comment but I do know other CN folks want to eliminate women's right to vote.
How is the constitution not being criticized as a document for a “Christian Nation”. Gary North for the win 😂
Now that you mention is I suppose the only reason it's not is they've gone past talking about the Constitution and now have gone about destroying it piece by piece.

Count me in. I feel guilty because I haven't moved to Moscow. But I'm certainly in the "mood"...😊
I have read Ride Sally Ride...and it is raunchy (that's the polite description). Filth that no Christian should write....but I understand that there are individuals who like to think of themselves as Christian and like raunchy (no doubt while swilling whiskey and smoking a cigar).
😭
I’ve read it too, and you’re full of it.
You said: "but I understand that there are individuals who like to think of themselves as Christian and like raunchy (no doubt while swilling whiskey and smoking a cigar". Go to any Baptist church and see how many are smoking (cigars included) outside the church doors after the service. It has been going on for a very long time.
@@manager0175 Amen....indeed it has... tragically
I hope you don't read Hosea or Song or Solomon. Far too raunchy for true Christians to read.
I would be glad to debate Doug on his claims here. Doug has so many inaccuracies, so many deceptions.

Doug writes like a high school junior trying to achieve the required word count on his final exam essay.
I think Doug got a "new word every day" calendar and a thesaurus.
@@manager0175 he coins a lot of his own words as well.

Doug Wilson, love him, but he is not good at fiction. Ride Sally Ride was not good, not because it was raunchy (it's not) but because the characters are not well written. They are all just a version of Wilson if they are good or a cartoonish 2 dementional caricature of a villain or weak person if they are the antagonists. Doug has a teenage non-Christian but searching girl in 2024 quoting Chesterton for crying out loud! Come On! Doug, each character has to think differently than the other characters and they all can't think like you! This is amateurish fiction writing on the level of fan fic. Your protagonist is very Mary Sue.
