I’m watching from Long Island, Stony Brook New York 11790 I have never seen how to serve a tennis ball with so much understanding I’m 77 years old wish I would’ve had you years ago. You are the best video on How to serve. in tennis that I’ve ever seen I’m amazed how thorough you are and so easy to understand I urge anyone that is trying to learn how to serve a tennis ball to watch this video. You will also be amazed he is marvelous.
From Lincoln, California. Precise explanation with demonstrations at each step in the progression. I’ve been watching tennis videos for 15 years and yours are the best. Thank you so much.
Comprehensive and complete instructions about all the elements of the serve in one content. Also very good visualisation advice to improve technique. Well done!
Watching from Los Angeles. Having trouble with my toss which is never consistent and either too far to the left or not in front of my body enough. I can’t wait to implement your teaching tomorrow when I hit the courts!
Listening from Rosario, Argentina.I ve been watching your videos because you are one of the best tennis teacher in youtube.Thank you very much for your work!!
Wow….I thought I was a lousy server because I wasn’t keeping my head up. There are a LOT of technical components to a successful serve….and you didn’t even get into the different types of serves (flat, slice, kick). There is a lot to know & practice. Thanks! 👍
Great Laura!! yes there are so many moving factors on the serve and that's why its the most challenging shot to master in all sports (in my humble opinion haha). Keep us posted on your progress :)
Greenville south carolina. Great stuff ! Always room for improvement on the server but need to get all components synched and then PRACTICE service action
I'm watching from Hong Kong! The inconsistency of the toss has always been the weakest part of my serve. The videos have a bit of an old school feel but I really appreciate the detailed explanation and some of the exercises you highlighted. Will be using your training instructions to train both at home and at the courts.
Enjoying from Mill Valley CA. Excellent tutorial on one of the very basics to achieve a good service motion. Definitely emphasizes simplicity. Thank you.
Watching from Orange County, California, good video on the serve. I believe there are many fine servers who allow the ball to drop just 2 feet before contact.
your method is easily uderstood and applicable for me after 11 year absence in tennis...now i restart to hit the stick again thank you from Banjarmasin
Greetings from the greater Orlando FL. Good quality technique, though completely straight tossing arm, to me, affects the body, and a curling toss puts more demand on the ball placement, it's an additional motion to control, though the ball stays longer in the hitting zone, of cause travels through a curve right to left. That produces many points (right-left and low-to-high) where you can hit the ball, but the ball will be hitting so many more points on the court after each serve due to the hitting zone formed as a curve. That adds up to the service errors and affects accuracy of the serve. There are pros and cons.
Great lesson! I'm watching from Seattle. I have a question - the moment you release the ball is your body weight mostly on your back foot or front foot? In other words, do you start to toss when you rock backward or when you rock forward? Thanks!
great question!! So general guideline, when you are releasing the ball... the weight distribution will be roughly 50/50. however, at the point of the release... the body weight is shifting slightly forward. Let me know if you have any further questions.
