Just built a PC after years of music production on phone/tablet with Caustic 3, Cubasis and Logic Pro for iPad I'm blown away by the level of customization Reaper has, and so excited to learn Thanks for the videos man
Fun fact, the reason Reaper exist is because the developer felt pro tools, logic, cubase were too restrictive with their their workflows when he was learning new daws lol. So that's most likely the reason why there's nothing like reaper lol.
I would love to see REAPER implement the polyphonic pitch bend for MPE synths that Bitwig and Live has. Also, REAPER's MIDI filter is really powerful for selecting notes, especially when dealing with complex or long arrangements.
Great video. It's somewhat tragic that FL Studio has the most intuitive piano roll (IMO). I get ideas laid out so fast with it. I moved to Logic because it's more optimized for mac (FL studio is buggy on it) and the piano roll is so annoying to use, takes twice as much time to get work done on it. Will give Reaper another try!
That's what's up I was a FL user for many years and couldn't find a piano roll that was better until I customized Reapers piano roll... Now I'm just as fast in Reaper that I am in FL.. I do have a video showing how I set all this up... Thanks for watching...😀🙏🏾
People in other DAWs do slide notes using Portamento. 36:00 You didn't show them the inline piano roll in the arrange view. It's arguably more useful than having a fixed waveform in the back of the piano roll. Amazing video. I have another account where I had planned to make videos like this a few years ago, but I'm so happy you're doing it!
im with you! been missing that note slide for 15 years when I switched to Logic, cubase, studio one, and now reaper. but I think their probably is a way to get it in reaper with a script
I love both fl and reaper. I think fl's midi editor is slightly more intuitive but reaper's has endless possibilities and is great in it's own way. I still think cubase has the best overall midi editor i just love it
Yea it's a great DAW for sure... People really sleep on the customization in Reaper you can make it function like you want it to but it does take time to setup ... Thanks for the comment...😀🙏🏾
Yes resizing but not stretching.. and those arrows stretch and shrink midi... You cannot do it from the left side in FL Studio but you can in Reaper.. thanks for the comment...😀🙏🏾
I like Cakewalk but it has some limitations when trying to record and quantize... Definitely one of my favorite piano rolls... Thanks for the comment...😀🙏🏾
That's what's up I really need to get more into Cubase I just can't keep paying for the updates they are killer .. 😂... I think they are working on 13 now might have to wait for that before buying 12.... Thanks for the comment...😀🙏🏾
I could write a novel about what I hate about piano rolls in a few DAWs. I have a few things figured out with Reapers piano roll. I do most things to midi notes on an item level and eventually glue them back together. I find it easier
That's what's up... A lot of people don't use the piano roll they just play instruments but a lot of people come from FL Studio use this method so I wanted to explore it in Reaper to let people know you can do this in Reaper just like any other DAW maybe even better
@@learningreaperAgreed , just playing around with Saike Dum drums a free js script its pretty raw and different synth drums. Have no idea how it works quite yet but like the 'Filth preset' Its made for Reaper and that is good
Great video, sir! Thank you for sharing. I recently asked in a forum which features FL Studio has that Reaper lacks and I was told "New Tone pitch correction". I looked it up and indeed seems really nice. But then again... for 89€. Not really a fair comparison with Reaper that costs 0, if you ask me.
Reaper does have reapitch it has a tab to edit like melodine ot newtone to correct notes... Definitely check it out if you haven't it's not as fancy with the blobs but does show the lines of pitch that can be corrected... Hope this helps...😀🙏🏾
Hello, excellent tutorial I have a question. How do I configure the piano roll with a single click? I mean, so that I can enter the notes in one click as Fl Studio? Can you help me please? Thank you very much, best regards
I believe those because accessibility. I`m not using FL studio but from this video I can see several easy built in tools that interesting . And most important , it still feel natural in term of musical notes ( not just random) Yeah Reaper maybe is the king when we`re talking about customizable but that`s need proper setup meanwhile FL studio users can start utilizing those functions after installing the main program . IF Image Line someday decide to porting their piano rolls and those built in features into a " SEQUENCER" plugin , I can see that will be blast right ? In other spectrum there is Bitwig which takes different takes for spicing our midi notes via their operator and note FXs
Thanks for the comment.... I agree out the box FL Studio is one of the best DAWs to use and they are getting better with every release... And the lifetime updates are great... I want to say they have the most built in vsts instruments as well right out the box... I haven't gotten into BitWig yet I haven't had it the time to try it out but I might have to try it seeing I have it on my computer...lol
@@learningreaper I don't have these types of skills either but I'm going to look into that. There has to be some way that we can set a glide through custom actions, maybe something involving pitch bend. I'll have a look and I'll get back to you if I find something. :)
@@learningreaper and if you're doing audio there is a pitch bend envelope to do bends on audio. It's an extra step to render the audio and then bend it, but it's there.
Yes it's a script that someone made.... You can check the piano roll setup video and I show how I setup my piano roll like this video... Let me know if you have questions...😀🙏🏾
I agree... Thats why I modified Reaper to change the zooming and one click add notes ... This is why I really like Reaper everything is customizable to make it work for you where other DAWs you are stuck with there work flow... I have a video showing how to change the zooming and the piano roll to be smoother... Thanks for the comment...😀🙏🏾
I guess you didn't watch the video... I explained why Reapers was better with facts not assumptions... Reaper does mark the scale your in and you can lock the scale which FL just got ... Reaper has had this for years now.. they just got scripts as well Reaper has had this for years as well... Don't get me wrong I really like FL Studio but facts are facts and FL has been dethroned and many people just don't know it yet... Thanks for the comment...😀🙏🏾
Saludos.-
you don't need to mark the scale as reaper literally has had scale lock which FL lacked for years. You can add other scales in Reaper and it supports ghost notes as well.
Right out the box I would say yes it is... You do have to setup Reaper which turns people off... That's why I made a video showing from scratch how I set all this up... Thanks for the comment...😀🙏🏾
Started with fl and it waay out of the box. But after a few tutorials and a few hours tweaking, my workflow is so much faster in fl. Piano roll is so much better to use and everything just works all while using less than half the cpu
When I learned how to apply swing to the piano roll in Reaper I was sold
That's what's up... Alot of cool things get over looked in Reaper...😀🙏🏾

No problem... I used BeatMaker 3 on my tablet as well as FL Mobile really good production tools on mobile devices... Thanks for the comment...😀🙏🏾

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the MPE stuff... Lol... It seems really cool.. thanks for the comment..😀🙏🏾
Added in V7.
The best piano roll is in reaper not only compare to fl studio......I work a lot with studio one and cubase too , but reaper is the best one
Agreed... The customization trumps everything else... Thanks for the comment...😀🙏🏾

Reaper has note fx as well, they are all MIDI JSFXs, but with Paranormal FX router, you can kinda do the Note grid thing in Reaper too.
