If I recall correctly, one of the requirements to be on the shortlist for purchase by McElhenney and Renolds was that it was a small club from a small community that was in dire straits and needed help. There were numerous clubs that they looked at but Wrexham is the one they chose because of the situation Wrexham was in, the community they were from and the footballing history they had. Unlike a lot of foreign investment in English football clubs, McElhenney and Reynolds certainly didn't purchase Wrexham because they thought it was going to be a massive money making operation for them. At least to me, it does seem like they their hearts are in the right place where Wrexham, the football club and the community, are concerned. And that certainly an't be a bad thing.
If the documentary was to be a success, which it is (in Hollywood, success means boatloads of money), a massive money making operation was a certainty. Today, RR McReynolds Company LLC is exactly that, with a Midas touch. Genius, absolute genius. No one looses. Wrexham won large, RR won large, bean counters won large, even National League and their clubs won large (ex. I am in Canada, and i bought a subscription to National League streams, and it isn't a freebie). Won't be long, League 2 will be the buzz of English football, and they will all win large. Imagine that, worldwide attention on League 2!
Notts fan here. To be fair Wrexham have suffered for a long time so yes they probably deserve to go up. I hope we do too. I remember many years ago Notts were backed by millions from a con outfit called Munto. At least Wrexham money is there. Lot of rubbish traded by both sets of fans but generally both have respect for each others club on the whole. Good luck to both teams.
Forest fan. If Wrexham and County don't both go up, it'll be a travesty. You're both head and shoulders above everyone else in that division. There needs to be a league reform. Three down from League Two and three up from National League.
Been in this league for 15 years. Finished 2nd to fleetwood with 98 points and vardy and we lost in the play offs. We have been victims of other clubs getting promoted after big investment. We won’t be the last.
I live in east Tennessee in the US. I don't follow English Football or American soccer but thanks to RUclips, I now follow Wrexham. Its a great story. There are plenty of towns in the US that are down on their luck. I love what this football club is doing for the city. Its compelling and I want nothing but the best for the team and the city of Wrexham. I am cheering for a win against Notts County. Huge game for both clubs.
I became a fan too not only the team but the fans or as you say supporters. I'm trying to find out how to watch games here in the states all I can find like my rugby team is replays on RUclips if posted.
I'm an American and I tried to get into English football several times, but just couldn't make a connection to any team. Now I follow every Wrexham game, their win today was incredible!
I don’t really follow the whole show over there at all, but as an American, it’s a link that you can grab onto. There’s a near total lack of exposure to the league except for an awareness of the most famous teams, so looking at it is probably like the equivalent of a person in England looking at baseball and wondering if you want to follow the Reds or the Diamondbacks or the Rockies, or if you just pick the teams winning championships, be a fan of the Astros or Dodger, or the Yankees because you’ve heard of them. But when you have two guys from North America that you’re familiar with and like who go over there and buy a team and put themselves into it, it gives you a reason and gives you permission to do it too. Yeah, if Manchester United did a documentary show over here, some people would watch it and get invested, but it’s still random and removed. With the guys over there, it’s like they’re representing North America, and it’s easier to identify with the two guys hopping the pond and learning the sport and caring about the team from the box than it is to be like, “hey hey, go Arsenal, I support you for no particular reason.”
Same here, I was not able to find that connection to any team in football as I did with other sports in the States. But I found myself loving Wrexham with everything I have seen so far.
Comment from a Yankee here ... I had the pleasure of living in the U.K. for a few years back in the mid 2000's (2005 - 2007). My ex's father in law had a box at Old Trafford (I married into Untied fandom) and I have been follow footy for since I stepped foot on England soil. In any case, now the Wrexham has been taken over by Renolds and McElhenney, I've adopted them as my Club #2. The exposure they've received from Welcome To Wrexham has 100% increased their fanbase in the States. I have so many friends and colleagues who did not follow soccer (especially international footy), but now do thanks to the Documentary. I don't understand how anyone could see their recent success as a "bad" thing. It's just like any other sport in the world... when a new ownership group takes over any club (regardless of sport), they are going to pump $$$ into that club to get them to the next level, league, etc. etc. etc. National League TV seems like a it came into fruition specifically because of Wrexham's success and the backing of Renolds and McElhenney. How can anyone be upset at more eyeballs (especially from the U.S.) on the greatest sport on the planet. If there are issues with Wrexham and their popularity, it's straight jealousy. Get over it and enjoy the ride!!!
The biggest difference between these oligarchs that purchase high end clubs and what Reynolds and Co have done is that they have taken a local community in need and brought pride and joy back to that community. They have invested wisely and they are doing this in a humble way with a love to the sport rather than a love for the money.
I am one American who has become a Wrexham fan. It has made me a fan of English football. I have been disillusioned with American sports, so the Wrexham story has given me sports enjoyment again.
It has not only been great for Wrexham, but for the whole National League and football in general. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more solid backers step up to help other teams. This just got the ball rolling, so to speak.
I'm living overseas and have been a Newcastle fan for 50 years. In answer to the ridiculous question - I keep an eye on how Wrexham are doing watch their videos on RUclips and get excited when they win. Watching them progress through the cup was phenomenal. Shame Sheffield dumped them out. So yes. If a Geordie in the Philippines is watching to see how they are doing each week I think it's fair to say that Ryan Reynolds fans in the States will be doing the same.
People always mention the money the owners have but the money the club has generated is through sponsorship and the documentary, granted none of which would happen without the owners, but they're making the club sustainable, not doing an Abromovich. I think the reason a lot of fans from other clubs are now hating Wrexham is because of the media love in... I support Wrexham and even I see Wrexham talked about in every single media outlet, however, any club would love owners who have bought into their club like our owners have.
Wrexham is a long way from being sustainable at the moment, they've lost millions the last 2 years - which is huge for thar level. But I think they ultimatley do have a unique opportunity with how the media deal is selling the community/club story and generating a large fanbase that can all share in their inevitable (and it is inevitable) rise up the football league. Ryan and Rob would have to mess it up big time if they fail to reach the championship in the next 7years or so.
Im a Chesterfield fan I don't hate Wrexham a good bunch proper fans they deserve it could be at my clubs detriment but I don't begrudge them at all. Long standing rivalry between us but great banter and respect too
A genuine level-headed response. Really feel that envy plays a massive part in the reaction to Wrexham, we’re the lucky ones and we recognise that. We’ve had plenty of tough times, now we’re in dreamland. Good luck in the playoffs, you seem to be really picking up form, at the exact right time. (Hopefully we wrap up the league and don’t see you there haha!)
@@TubbyBrewster11 i think both of us have played each other more than any other club we won an FA CUP quarterfinal v you you win this year it's always been equal see both fans fighting each other but the last game at the racecourse i think a nod was given to WFC from us. Brilliant banter slightly sick jimmy sav chants at each other but beers and hand shaking instead of fighting which is pointless...like i said we are not begrudging i speak perhaps for myself but i really respect and like you lot
I am from the US, Man United Fan since 95’! Watched the doc and now I check their scores, try to catch their games when they are on ESPN+, and just got a couple of their home Jerseys! It’s just a great story, they are non league, the way the community is uplifting them is touching! As Benty said you can’t please everyone! Haters will hate!
I live in the US and yes, there are now Wrexham fans here. Dubbed America's favorite Welsh team already... was at a bar watching Liverpool in the cup & there was a good size group of guys going crazy watching that Wrexham vs Sheffield United game
Fulham did it years ago, remember them in the 3rd division then Mr Harrods walks in and makes them into what you see today. Its part of life and with people like Ryan and Rob walking into a National league club the eyes on the other teams alone is massive. The away fans bring in big money for these other non league teams. What's happening in Wrexham is special but isn't bad for football its good for the game as a whole.
I remember Wrexham playing both Fulham and Man City in the league in the late 90s. If they can get pumped up the leagues with big investments it's defintely our time given the pain the club has been through since the new Millenium. These owners are a dream after the likes of Alex Hamiliton and Pryce Griffiths who took the club right to the brink, to build flats on the ground (illegally).
As an American from New Orleans, Louisiana I can promise you there is more excitement for football ⚽️ now than ever. The docuseries Welcome to Wrexham finally gave me a team to follow and care about as much as my own American football team The New Orleans Saints. I honestly cannot wait to take my first trip across the pond to visit Wrexham specifically!
I'm from Canada and I know that Ryan Reynolds is a national treasure here. Yes he has lots of money but it has never changed who he is. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he truly cares about people. And yes I am now a big Wrexham fan also!
@@JackieChanFan1 I'm not sure how much they have but it's a lot more than their competition, they're definitely wealthy enough to climb up the leagues
@@L1RW Any club that gets tookover by wealthy owners with the fame added to that will increase their support. 10k is still impressive as not many people watch the NL. As a Newcastle fan the same happened to us, 45k pre-takeover, now you can't get a ticket. Same would have happened with City etc. They're only plastic if they stop going when they start doing badly.
@@knoxy6884 well Wrexham fans did. As soon as they went down to NL from L2, attendances dropped. The only time Wrexham had big crowds, was FA cup games, Play off matches and the cup finals at Wembley. I used to go when it was 2-3000 fans each week. It’s great for the club, but now I no longer attend as I feel that they don’t need my money. They also ask that you pay a membership fee to get tickets. Or pay for a season ticket.
We are from Texas, and we’ve been supporting Wrexham for the past year. Actually, I am a fan of one of the owners, Rob, so as soon as I heard of the venture, I started paying attention. Now the world is paying attention, which has brought us to YOUR channel
Asking if Wrexham's success is fair is no different to asking if Chelsea or Man City's success is fair. It is clear to any sane person that Rob & Ryan have immersed themselves in the community and have the club and community at heart and in their management process. Good luck to all involved in the Wrexham project and hopefully Rob & Ryan will become the benchmark for the fit and proper owners test.
@@davidmontgomery1442What a load of crap, Man City have not broken any rules. FFP was only bought in, unfairly imo, to protect the monopoly clubs, who cheat by borrowing money from the banks, which is far worse. What you saying is, If I won the lottery, I could not buy a house with the other millionaires, because I didn't earn it utter crap.
@@shmooveyea I don't think the vast majority of people have any issue with them being Canadian and American. Especially with the success and the transparent nature of their management.
Happy enough for Wrexham and who doesn't like Deadpool! The fans and club will be delighted at the attention and investment it has all brought to the club. Here's hoping for a steady promotion and joyous season potentially in league 2 for them from a Newcastle fan.
As an American who has followed the PL for the last two decades, I can tell you that many non-football fans in America know more about Wrexham than Man City haha. It's wild what Rob and Ryan have done - the documentary series and their promotion of the club on their social media platforms has def raise awareness.
True, my sister who HATES football now gets weekly updates on how Wrexham is doing because she loved the show. The fact that she can name more national league teams (like maybe 3 which tbf most football fans can hardly name any) than prem or even mls teams (probably only confident on 1 MAYBE 2 teams combined) says a lot about the situation for a lot of Americans. Even if they don't care about the sport all that much, this is a bring entryway for the US to build popularity and induct new fans and for several national league teams to get a couple new fans as well
Hahaha I’m in America and been following just aslong as you lol and hell no Wrexham isn’t big here lmfao. I just saw a kid with a Haaland and De Silva jersey at my sons practice. Ryan is a joke lol
@@bonesbrigade2o2o i hope your son can read better than you mate. I said many non-football fans, e.g. girl friends of mine who watch reality tv and the bravo network know about Wrexham. Ofc kids who play the bloody sport know/care only about the top teams in the PL.
The Welcome to Wrexham documentary was so well done and so charming, that there are a significant number of Americans who have become Wrexham fans. Some of them-- like me-- never even followed 'football' before-- the documentary got me into both the sport and a particular team. Also, w/r/t "Is it fair", I think that's the beauty of the English relegation/promotion system: if it is unfair, it's only unfair for a year or two, then Wrexham gets promoted, and it's not a problem for any of the other teams in the league anymore.
@@daquaviousbingleton9763 Sorry, I think my post was not worded very well. I'm supporting Wrexham. I wouldn't be surprised if I got interested in the Seattle Sounders (I live in Seattle), but at this point, I'm only really reading about and watching Wrexham. (Well, I guess I did spend an hour watching Erling Haaland videos.)
Welcome to the worlds greatest sport! There is so much history in football you could spend the next ten years watching highlights of classic matches and storylines in football. One such story is Leicester City winning the premier league in 2016 at odds of 5,000/1
I am following Wrexham from the NW US and I remain completely in for the whole idea that a team could go from real trouble to where they are marching up the leagues. Hell, I want to watch these games, and if anyone out there sees this building like it is they will start televising this stuff int he US.
Why? Just because of ryan Reynolds. If so, u yanks are the weirdest bunch I've ever seen. My team leeds, we hired a yank and all of a sudden we had thousands of yanks supporting us. Very very strange.
They are darlings in the FA Cup as well, so if ESPN/ESPN+ got the chance to show them, they made sure to do so. If they step up to League Two I'd expect more of those games moving to ESPN+ as well.
It's a great story, the owners are obviously invested in the club and the community. It also gives some encouragement to other teams attracting new owners, investment etc.
I am from Wrexham and live in the USA. I was out with a group of people at a running club last week and they started talking about Wrexham FC...! Bizarre, but true!
I live in central North Carolina in the states near my dad. My dad hasn't been to Wrexham, or Wales, or even the UK, but he is head over heels for Wrexham. He hadn't even heard of either rob or ryan before seeing the documentary. Now he listens to EVERY match and tells me about the pie predictions and shows me when his tweets are features on Ask Wrexham. They're actually playing in a 7-a-side tournament near us against former US National team members and other clubs and he's SO excited to go.
As an American and a English Football fan, I feel that the Premiership has become more of a corporation than a sport, which has brought some tremendous talent to the league but has cost a bit of its identity. What McReynolds have done by popularizing Wrexham has been to show that this is more than a sport it is the heart and soul of the cities and towns throughout the lower leagues. In the end what makes Wrexham the team that everybody love is not Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney, but the spotlight they have put on the passion of the fans for Wrexham, passion shared by all of the fans of National League Teams; they all deserve their moment in the sun. Congratulations to Wrexham for earning promotion rooting for Notts County to do the same.
This is a fantastic story, it's not like these owners have gone gun hoe with the money, they have put in just enough to be very serious competitors, and they actually missed out on promotion last season. They are very committed owners, serious owners and they are there for the long term. I say good luck to them and I really wish them the best.
Andy, it's NYCFC or New York Red Bulls. We have more than one team in MLS. Those of us in the States that knew of Wrexham prior to the TV series, we're looking forward to see how they get on in League Two and beyond. The fact that Robb and Ryan have been so well known in the U.S. prior to their takeover helped bring a lot of us into the project they are taking on now. It should be even more interesting to see how many Wrexham shirts are in the stands in San Diego vs Manchester United. They are also sending a team to play in a 7v7 tournament in North Carolina as well. And why do we pretend that there aren't big spenders in every league other than the Premier League? Because Sunderland has outspent League One and the Championship teams for years and still haven't made it back to the Premier League.
I didn't understand why the podcast hosts hinted there might be something controversial about Wrexham playing Man UTD in a friendly. Each year, the FA Cup allows for the possibility of non-league teams playing those from the Premier League.
The Wrexham story has raised the visibility not just of their club, but the entire league. Small towns throughout Wales and England that a lot of people probably never heard of are suddenly on the map because of their football club's contests with Wrexham. This can only be good for attracting sponsors for the National League and all of its clubs.
Absolute opposite 😂 nobody talks about or gives any time for the 23 other teams in the league. Southend who were in the championship about 15 years ago nearly went bust a couple of weeks ago and you didn’t hear a word about it.
@@junioradult6219 how is that going to work ? Wrexham are more than likely to be promoted this year. So they are in League 2 and the non league teams won’t be affected by Wrexham publicity. You are clutching at straws
Wrexham’s owners have been instrumental in getting TV broadcasting of National League matches sorted. No one else, not even the league got this sorted so quickly.
Yes more Americans are interested in Wrexham. I am from Texas and have played football. Even played in Leeds and Blackpool as a youngster. Will be following Wrexham to the PL someday.
So it’s not an issue when Manchester City and Chelsea turn into state funded corporations but when 2 well meaning Canadians buy into a prestigious and historically significant football club that was in dire straits and a few years from administration it’s “unfair”. Right.
I hope Wrexham go up . And they go on and on up and up.. its a story that needs to be told and heard. There 2 rich guys fair play starting from the bottom, good on you ... wish you all the success that's coming your way..
I am in USA. I have always been an NFL fan and still am. 3 years ago, I turned on a Premier League game between Liverpool and MU. I was hooked from the start. I really liked the Liverpool coach. Since then I follow a few teams, Brentford, Newcastle, Derby County, Oxford City and now Wrexham. I am hoping they do go up to League Two because maybe I will get to see more games.
It's not unfair or fair. It just is. I hope Notts goes up too. Maybe this kind of success will translate into more solid owners in the National and below. I watch more National League games now than I do Premier League through the streaming service. That exists thanks to Wrexham (and other owners pushing it)
As an American "Football" fan I'm following Wrexham religiously along side my EPL team that I support. Hard to find Wrexham streams online but they are out there. English football system is miles ahead of american sports from a developmental standpoint and I've become an avid football fan because of the whole system. Think the wrexham hype is really helping drive football popularity in the states.
Normally 97% of coverage is about the Premier League and 2.99% about the Championship. The fact you're talking about the National League is good for all Nation League, League 2 and all lower leagues and teams.
I’m a Wrexham fan and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like what has happened to the club. The owners genuinely love the club and the townsfolk and its supporters.
I'm a lifetime football fan from America. I live in Columbus, Ohio and have attended a lot of Crew matches, played the sport all through my youth. I keep an eye on the bigger leagues, tourneys, etc. I wouldn't say I'm a Wrexham "fan," but I do follow the goings-on in their league now and am interested to see how far they go.
1 year ago if you started talking about soccer I would have switched off, from being an avid non watcher of soccer to a massive fan of Wrexham from the documentary watching games at 1, 2, 3 in the morning in Australia I can only imagine the new masses of people now watching League Football all over the world, this documentary is a light in the darkness at the moment which is sorely needed in our times, the exposure that Rob and Ryan and this team has now given the sport as well as the cash injections to all involved through sales of BT Sport access, apparel made in the UK as well as visitors coming from all over to watch can only be a good thing for the sport can it not?, the only downside to all of this I think is that if Wrexham go up into League 2 then the viewers / followers will shift to League 2 leaving National League behind, maybe an opportunity for someone / others with the funds to work with another National League team and keep the momentum going? - The Wrexham / Notts County game was amazing and well worth the dollars, money well spent.
As a Notts Fan I am really pleased that Wrexham are doing so well ! It is a great advertisement for the quality of the National league. And I am so pleased that a Team like Notts County can compete with a club like Wrexham. Notts County have done it the hard way - without massive investment- but with excellent management and with real spirit and teamwork Old fashioned football - as real as it comes
Don't forget we did the same in 2011/12. We came second to Fleetwood with 98 points when Fleetwood had the money to keep Vardy banging them in for them week after week. We were a fan's owned club running on a shoestring and just about breaking even with gates of 5,000. It's amazing how short peoples' memories are. We got 98 points and then went out to Luton in the playoffs (and it was York City who went up). Your fan Joe is going on about us having "bought" the League, but so did Fleetwood, so did Stockport last year, so did all those vanity clubs with zero fanbase like Salford City and Forest Gump. It is the only way to get out of the National League, and if it wasn't for this system some of us might have opposed the takeover
The thing I don't understand is the lop-sided promotion and relegation. If it's a standard concept why do the numbers up and down vary so much across the leagues in England? Why is it not a standard 3 up/3 down across the tiers? Or crazy Idea...if you are ahead of all the other teams by 20 points or w/e figure as the non-automatic team you get to go up because its obvious you are significantly more prepared for the week to week grind than a team that might get lucky against you on the pitch for a single match. Notts or Wrexham is going to put up over 100 points and NOT be automatically promoted. ARE THERE 5 TEAMS IN HISTORY that can make that claim?? 100 and NOT auto promotion?? I'd honestly like to know.
Tennessee, USA fan...learned of Wrexham from a friend in Wales. I am new as a fan of soccer because of my friend. Watched welcome to Wrexham...loved the story...now streaming the games...so yes ..there are many fans here...and completely new fans of soccer .
Watching this from Canada, can definitely confirm that there are eyes on English football thanks to Ryan and Rob. The fact that I'm watching this clip is proof! Love to hear this chat, 3rd wrexham clip the youtube algorithm gods have suggested from your channel. I'm assuming you'll get the answer to your questions based on your own viewcounts
3:25. To answer your question I only watched Welcome to Wrexham because Always Sunny is my favorite show and I'm a fan of McElhenny. At the time, I couldn't give two shits about soccer. Now I watch every Wrexham game I can. Converted for sure. I mean hell, I'm watching your show because of McElhenny.
Am a LONG TIME fan of Wxm. Through good, bad and extremely dodgey. We deserved this break! Though nobody was expecting it to happen and nobody is 100% complacent about promotion. We are still hiding behind the sofa, hardly breathing. Notts are a top club too. Hope both get their reward this season. This story, remember is keeping a lot of people employed. The football competition is great..real football, all through the league. But lots of other people are benefiting from the Wxm story too. Away travel is lucrative to all National League teams, who greet the Wxm Dollar with open turnstiles. Prediction. Next years Nat. League will be wealthier and following the business example of R+R to their benefit. Eg. Game Streaming this season, miraculously improved thanks to influence of the Wxm Chairmen . Wxm fans have been in this league a long while and have seen other clubs come and go after benefiting from very wealthy owners. Nobody likes a clever dick or a wealthy owner, it seems. Well, this year, it's us, MAYBE. And fingers crossed County.. in the playoffs.
Like you, I’ve followed Wrexham over many years, and remember us being promoted in the 70s then many years later, after rare successes and occasional failures tumbling down and out of the league thanks to the financial irregularities of very dodgy owners who tried to bankrupt the club and destroy the oldest international football stadium in the world. I don’t recall that many commentators complaining vehemently about the way we were treated then, so it’s a bit rich that these Talksport ‘personalities’ now try to generate controversy and are riled by our good fortune without acknowledging any of our history.
You cannot buy anything Wrexham in the United States!!! They’re that popular !!! We talked at our kids trainings and matches about the show when it was on. Fantastic amazing show!! Even Sunderland really, due to Netflix.
Brilliant, team topping the league, women’s team win a trophy at the weekend and over 20,000 fans through the gates at the weekend for both games but you lot have to try and put a negative slant on it. British media at its best !
I'm an American who has now heard of Wrexham because of the documentary so now I'm doing exactly what they talked about - just consuming Wrexham content and seeing what people think about it, lol. I'm not necessarily a fan per se, but I really enjoy the live action story playing out that I can follow and watch - and then watch a documentary about what all happened behind the scenes during the season.
I am Canadian and became a Wrexham because of the original story. Since I am a huge Man Utd fam, so I love the upcoming match. Wrexham had a lot gong for it with its history, formerly in a higher league, oldest stadium, etc. fits a Hollywood story. Man City was a 3rd tier club, bought by HUGE money and bought the players to go up, yet nobody questions that duplicate situation. Anyone who whines about another team got bought and fixed up to rise in the ranks, it is just sour grapes and childish tantrums.
it wasnt long ago that ONLY one team got promoted out of the national league... now its atleast 2.. but really i hope they make it so 3 can go up each year,
It should be two at least automatic. 1st and 2nd. Sod the play offs. Totally unfair that the 7th placed in the league could go up by having a few good games in the playoffs.
@@davejones3240 That did shock me a bit, but also with how much better Notts and Wrexham have been compared to the rest of the league it seems insane that 1 fluke game could kill promotion for one of them when they are ahead of the rest of the league by what..20?? points.
Iv just watched the welcome to Wrexham series and the reasons they bought the club speaks volumes, it’s not for financial gain etc. they want to help the community and keep the history of that club alive. Without them would they be around in a few years?
This is so hyperbolic. Alright, they're well funded for a non-league club but they're funded with the aim of rising up the pyramid. The owners aren't billionaires; in fact they were commenting how expensive it is to spend 200k on a new pitch. They care about the club and community and if anyone hates on them for wanting to be back where a club of their stature belongs, then they can do one.
Either allow any team to get outside investment (as it is now) or don't allow any team to get outside investment. If you're going to start complaining about outside investment then you better be ready to remove sponsorships, merchandise, advertising. You'll no longer be able to watch your team on TV since broadcasting rights are part of the 'outside investment' category. The beauty of the way it is now is that teams going under like Wrexham can be saved and create this fantasy storyline. The bad side is that other teams will inevitably get shafted. I think the majority of football fans would choose to keep it as it is now. Even that Notts fan who called in to moan admitted that he'd love a multi-million £ takeover.
That's one of the most ridiculous questions ever. You may as well ask if luck is fair. And Wrexham created its own luck when the fans saved it and kept it going.
People complain about badly run teams getting no support. Here one finally gets proper support and people get upset. It's jealousy, because they would love it if their team was getting that kind of support.
Saying Wrexham has a ton of money is such a miscalculated statement... They have more than the average team in their division, but name me a championship club with owners who have less money. To us normal mortals, Reynolds and McElhenny have several hundred million pounds, but they aren't billionaires as far as I know
When Darren Ferguson was manager of Wrexham, they used to play Man Utd all the time in pre-season friendlies. It's how Ben Foster got noticed by Alex Ferguson who then went onto sign him. This isn't some kind of new phenomenon.
I'm from America and it's not easy watching European Football. The only reason Im a Wrexham fan is cause of Rob and Ryan, though I'd argue any sports fan exposed to Wrexham could easily become a fan. Respect to Notts County as well. That teams playing at a huge disadvantage and still playing at a top level, i wouldn't be upset if they got promoted. Theyve earned it.
I never knew about WREXHAM F.C until Ryan Renolds bought it and I'm happy how it is going on. I hope they get promoted to PL someday. Support from India.
WHUFC Fan here, and I am defo a fan of Wrexham, since the purchase of the 'A' Listers :) They have suffered for years in their current league, but are a club that deserve their success and a rise up through the ranks :)
Wrexham are now famous all over the world. The cameras follow Wrexham so all the teams they play get a share of the fame. This is a Hollywood movie playing out in front of our eyes so enjoy it. It's great for a small town in Wales, the team even bring in tourists to Wrexham, property prices are on the way up and everyone should enjoy what's happening.
The only people who complain are just jealous. What is so wrong about buying a club and generating money to put into it the correct way? People seem to be under the impression that the celebrities themselves are financing it out of their own pocket. But the brand of Ryan and Rob is what is propping up the clubs new investment. The Tiktok deal. The Documentary and the whole new introduction of non-league English football into a new American fan base, who not only watch the games but buy the Merchandise too. Its genius really. Also not to mention the fact that these guys have staked their Brand on this too. Being constantly in the public eye will mean that they will have to have accountability for their ownership decisions. Unlike Shadowy Business men who buy these clubs, rinse it for cash, then just sell and leave.
To help answer your question, I'm from norther Canada and have never followed (soccer) football, but heard about Welcome to Wrexham. Watched the show and find myself watching the highlights each week and its how I ended up watching this video. So, I doubt I'm an outlier in this regard. I'm not saying that I'm a fan, but I'm following their progress to be sure, just as the cohost mentioned.
The fact is they are not actually as wealthy as other club owners. Look at what certain owners are worth in the lower leagues. These guys are just doing it properly. Investing, promoting their club, monetising with the documentary and doing loads of PR. Good on them.
Joe is right, didnt say anything against the money, just against the stupid decision only one team gets promoted automatically. Andy really didnt understand him.
Playing top tier teams in pre-season is nothing new for Wrexham. We used to have friendlies every season against Liverpool. We were a club that was ticking along nicely in league 2 (now 1) with Bryan Flynn at the helm, who at the time was the longest serving manager with Fergie.
Being an American I never had any real interest in non league football, but now I find myself listening to all the Wrexham and Notts County games...Come on you Dragons!
The number of Away fans turning up at Wrexham, and the Away attendances (not including Wrexham fans) has shot through the roof, so it's not just Wrexham fans that are being entertained by this adventure.
I've never heard of Wrexham as a place and as a team. I only watch World Cup and UEFA, never even heard of Rob Mcelhenney and Always Sunny in Philadelphia before. Because of Ryan Reynolds, I got intrigue by Wrexham AFC, I subscribe to Disney plus just to watch the documentary and ever since I watch every news and every game and some podcasts, vlogers, everything Wrexham. Now I understand football and watch and enjoy now watching the game not just Wrexham but also the Premier League, football in Spain and France.
For years suffered at the hands of owners that only wanted to asset strip, in order to line their own pockets and run the club into the ground. The pair of clowns that built student accommodation on the car park and another clown, who had already screwed Chester, tried to get planning to build houses on the football ground, so with that in mind, plus lots of other crap that's gone on, yes it's fair.
I haven't watched football (soccer) for 50 years since I left secondary school. The Welcome to Wrexham documentary piqued my interest. I live in Chicago. I now by a monthly ticket so I can watch the National League games on streaming. There are thousands more like me.
As an American I love following this club. I finally have a team to root for. I only had favorite teams in the premiere league bc I play Fifa. I live in Michigan and I have a hard time rooting for any MLS club until Detroit gets a club. I'm not going to root for a Chicago Team or an Ohio team
This is a very odd hypothetical conversation! That being said, I’m an American who loves football and really enjoyed the Wrexham documentary and have followed them ever since. I also enjoyed the Sunderland documentary, and find myself trying to locate them in the standings as well.
If anyone has a problem with what Rob and Ryan have done with Wrexham then they don’t love football. What this has done not only for Wrexham but for non-league football in general is massive. Anyone with good intentions pumping money into lower league clubs will only benefit English football in the long term
Wrexham was on the verge of bankruptcy at one point. They were at the bottom of the national league for over a decade. Their management before takeover was dogshit. Then the takeover happened, the people of Wrexham deserve success after their long years in the wilderness.

Good luck to both teams.
i hoping for wrexham and county to go up. but wrexham need to win as i dont fancy us in the playoffs
Forest fan. If Wrexham and County don't both go up, it'll be a travesty. You're both head and shoulders above everyone else in that division.
There needs to be a league reform. Three down from League Two and three up from National League.
I hope you guys and Wrexham both go up. You both deserve it.
Even though I want notts to go up its a great story.
It isn't a matter of deserving 'to go up.' A reasonable person would help even a drunk, who fell from his bar stool, right?
Although it’s great for the club and town, happy welsh cakes it hasn’t really improved the town lol 🤔
I became a fan too not only the team but the fans or as you say supporters. I'm trying to find out how to watch games here in the states all I can find like my rugby team is replays on RUclips if posted.
Even British people find it difficult to watch Wrexham on tv since there are playing in league 5 effectively.
Just watch RUclips highlights
I'm an American and I tried to get into English football several times, but just couldn't make a connection to any team. Now I follow every Wrexham game, their win today was incredible!
Okay then, is it because Wrexham FC have been dramatised through a show? Via Hollywood actors
@@jakehowie442 does that matter though? Gaining more intrest across different countries for a sport?
You’ve made a damn good choice Sir,chapeau….
Well said!!
Of course it’s fair, they haven’t broken any rules, it’s actually very refreshing to see how well they have been running things so far.

Abromovich left Chelsea in a way better place than when he came, he just did it by throwing a S-ton of money at it.
Also the crowds have trebled from around 3,000 now around 10,000,, which is a substantial boost for game day revenue.
@@123bwlch Very true, as well as the extra merch that's now being sold around the world
Welcome to Wrexham season 2 can easily sell for many, many millions
Wrexham is a long way from being sustainable at the moment, they've lost millions the last 2 years - which is huge for thar level. But I think they ultimatley do have a unique opportunity with how the media deal is selling the community/club story and generating a large fanbase that can all share in their inevitable (and it is inevitable) rise up the football league. Ryan and Rob would have to mess it up big time if they fail to reach the championship in the next 7years or so.

The Welcome to Wrexham documentary was so well done and so charming, that there are a significant number of Americans who have become Wrexham fans.
Not one Wrexham fan has a issue with this, also Wrexham have played Liverpool , utd and many other top teams in friendlys before 😂
I didn't understand why the podcast hosts hinted there might be something controversial about Wrexham playing Man UTD in a friendly.

Notts County have done it the hard way - without massive investment- but with excellent management and with real spirit and teamwork
Old fashioned football - as real as it comes
That's why you had sven as manager and bit of investment ?stop talking shite
So what's the cap on investment for it to be considered 'the hard way'?
I’m a saints fan and I follow Wrexham now. Love what they have done
I support man utd but love following wrexham
Wrexham deserve it more than anyone. Everyone deserves owners like that 😌
You can add the same argument for Newcastle United , Chelsea , Leicester , Cardiff abd many others who have had big money thrown at them
Am a LONG TIME fan of Wxm.
100% fair, no rules against investing in a club, bumping the payroll and winning
Let them enjoy their success after a rough time. Only someone who was deeply bitter would hate them.
Im from wrexham and have seen multiple groups of fans from other nations at the games, canada germany and america
Bet they all get a taxi to Liverpool straight after the game though
This is professional sports, money talks, but you need to build fan support and they’ve done it
That's one of the most ridiculous questions ever. You may as well ask if luck is fair. And Wrexham created its own luck when the fans saved it and kept it going.
I'm in the US and I've been following Wrexham and Notts County because of the show. Great teams.
People complain about badly run teams getting no support. Here one finally gets proper support and people get upset. It's jealousy, because they would love it if their team was getting that kind of support.
My wife and I, Americans, are following Wrexham AFC closely now due to the documentary
This American is a newbie Wrexham fan thanks to Rob & Ryan!
WHUFC Fan here, and I am defo a fan of Wrexham, since the purchase of the 'A' Listers :)
They have suffered for years in their current league, but are a club that deserve their success and a rise up through the ranks :)
I live in Denver Colorado, USA and the only reason I am watching this now, is because I watch the show and started to follow the club.
Playing Man Utd in the state's is a brilliant financial move by Wrexham, it will bring in thousands of American fans, great PR good luck to them
The number of Away fans turning up at Wrexham, and the Away attendances (not including Wrexham fans) has shot through the roof, so it's not just Wrexham fans that are being entertained by this adventure.
Yes u yanks are very very weird.
@@TheGeneral_LUFC indeed!
As an American I love following this club. I finally have a team to root for. I only had favorite teams in the premiere league bc I play Fifa. I live in Michigan and I have a hard time rooting for any MLS club until Detroit gets a club. I'm not going to root for a Chicago Team or an Ohio team
I'm American. I've never cared about football (aka soccer). But I now follow Wrexham because of Rob & Ryan and the Hulu documentary. So...
They were at the bottom of
the national league for over a decade. Their management before takeover was dogshit. Then the takeover happened, the people of Wrexham deserve success after their long years in the wilderness.
