One of my male ancestors willed freedom to the enslaved families on the plantation. (It was not because he was a good man. He did something awful (He sold a beloved daughter, bad, to a far away, worst, known abuser, cruel. He then beat her mother to unconsciousness when she protested, byond evil.). So freeing the family in his will was his week a@# reperations. He should have freed them all then and there. If he was a good person he would have freed them the minute he inherited them.) Anyway, his wife outlived him. Guess what happened. SHE did not honor the will and SHE "gave" the people to her grown and living all over the country children. Thus separating the family. Can you even imagine being pulled away from your family without being able to see them or talk to them? We are talking about a very close knitt and loving family being pulled appart. . Ya, white women we definatly don't get a pass because we are women. Sorry you even have to have this conversation.
I also appreciate the education, because I sometimes fall for the gaslighting that white supremacy tries to push (that we’re being too sensitive, or that a man talking down to women is inherently mansplaining, regardless of the context) and then Sunn comes in with not only facts, but EVIDENCE, and reminds me “oh yeah… there IS nuance and complications to be found in these kinds of things”
I've noticed folks tend to assume if someone is reframing away from their issues, they're discounting, dismissing, or downplaying them. It can both be true that white women have suffered historically/currently, and that that group benefits from and participates/participated in white supremacy. We see misdeeds as an immutable trait (also entrenched in racist/sexist history of science) and so fight against being seen as racist instead of stepping back and being a part of the convo. We're more comfortable dictating it often than not cause we've been raised to not know how to handle being wrong morally without it being tied to who we intrinsically are
🤔 Hmmm yes, yes I see. Might this be a part of the "saviour/nurse/rescuer" complex for some of us YT women? I have noticed in myself a penchant for "over correcting" or "stepping in" when my services/opinions are neither requested nor required. In my pursuit of eradicating the injustice of blatant/systemic/institutional racism as well as other "isms" that intersect with racism I am often humbled. Taking those moments with grace and learning to accept my own shortcomings is a valuable step in my own growth. Day by day my peace grows with my strength.

Idk if people have a problem understanding scope or if the knee jerk to be defensive is just that strong, but it's not even like Sunn doesn't talk about the difficulties of women on his channel. Like intersectionality is the understanding that the factors that play into the oppression of people's are multifaceted and messy. Yes white women were/are oppressed by men. Yes they did/do contribute to systematic racism. Yes black men contribute(d) to the sexism on the communities they have been allowed to exist in. All these things are true at the same time and understanding how all those things have influenced the communities and systems we live in is important; we can't leave any of them out, and they all need their own space to be talked about.
Privilege is very messy! I'm a white trans guy. So within about 18 months I went from having lived with misogyny for four decades to acquiring male privilege while also joining one of the most actively dehumanized and oppressed communities. Eye opening to say the least. One unexpected benefit is how much more aware of oppression and systemic injustice I've become. As an example, I'll never know what it is to be a person of colour or someone with a disability. But I *see* it more now. The last few years has given me so much more perspective on the injustice around me.
Yell, I remember the causal killing act...They had to put that into law!!!...Not just because the yt male slavers were beating their enslaved to death but, their women were killing the enslaved black women and/or their babies.. Because their husbands were spending to much time in the slave quarters....Like it was the enslaved woman's that caused the problem🙄...Some of the husbands were so angry that they wanted the wives charged for destruction of property but the other yt men didn't want to see them jailed for unliving black us....
I'm the age and complexion to be taken as a Karen before I even open my mouth. I grew up poor but I know now how priviledged I was and continue to be. Female white priviledge is top tier entitlement.
Thank you for your efforts to educate others. I believe another part of continuing white supremacy is the way history is taught in schools. We learn all of the amazing things that white people had done, but black people's history starts with slavery in the U.S. Our hearts and education systems need adjusting.

WW owned a whopping 40% of enslaved people. Some were extremely cruel. On plantations, so many CHILDREN were being deleted (stomped) until the COMMON KILLING ACT had to be passed in order to prevent ww from being prosecuted.
Martha Custis brought many enslaved people to her marriage with George Washington and as I understand successfully resisted his desire to free them, because it was her so called property in question.

Blows my mind that people still try to deny the existence of systemic racism and oppression. Eve more agitating is that it isn't really getting better.
Getting worse. I'm a white trans guy. Coming out and suddenly dealing head on with actual hatred and active bigotry against me on a daily basis has really opened my eyes. I am so much more aware of the oppression others experience such as racism and ableism. Not saying I will ever truly understand the experiences of those groups but I'm definitely more cognizant of the oppression around me. Marginalized groups need to work together. Otherwise we'll all go down separately. Black, queer, disabled, poor, Jewish, female (and many more)... The fascists are coming for us all.
There’s two reasons - one, they don’t see themselves as responsible for “the past” (and, while maybe us alive today are not TO BLAME, we are still RESPONSIBLE) and two, they literally don’t see anything wrong with it. …which, honestly, is even worse.
I'm so tired of people seeing privilege as an on/off switch. A white woman can be oppressed as a woman AND benefit from systemic racism. I'm a white, trans, bi guy. In one year I gained male privilege and also became recognized as one of the most dehumanized and marginalized groups in society. While maintaining my white, middle class, Canadian privilege. This shit is complicated. But one thing is very simple. While any group (even one you don't belong to) is dealing with systemic oppression, *none* of us can enjoy the benefits of a truly just society.
And Americans have certainly shown that some of them lack the ability to hold anything in their heads more complicated than the letters of the alphabet!
It's not that complicated....🙄 and the only reason why you are able to spout on and on about dehumanization is because your trans experience put you in a place to truly understand and experience true oppression and marginalization, as a white woman you may have not experienced or benefited from privilege and power at the same level as your white male counter parts but even historically white were given limited rights (which included the rights to own and kill slaves which they owned) and white women have learned how to weaponization the ideal of their white woman chaste/purity and fragility to bring great harm, injury, and even death to black people so it's not just a "benefit" it's power and privilege...
I think white women (especially hetero and cis) don't really realize the amount of power they DO have. Like, women ARE oppressed by a male-centric society, but "whiteness" for sure comes with privilege.. I'm glad to have found your channel, I have the least experience with the black community as a whole, and you've shown me some of my blind spots and prejudices I didn't even realize I had..

Thank you for being such a fantastic educator Sunn! I'm Australian, and have been finding out a lot recently about the history and current day effects of slavery. There's so much I have to learn about African-American history in general as well, and you are one of many black content creators I've been learning from lately. There's such a rich history and so much about African-American cultures, and I'm excited to learn as much as I can! I'm disabled and can't work so I'm trying to use my time to learn 😊 I'm also nonbinary, and appreciated the quick "male, female, or otherwise" that you threw in! Subtle inclusion is beautiful, and I'm grateful for you taking the time 💛
every video i watch of yours i not only learn a neat little tidbit i can use to educate my friends later on down the road, but i gain a massive amount of respect for how level-headed you handle these kinds of situations when frankly you have every right to kick up a fucking fuss. god bless man
As someone that is the spitting image of the oppressor, I don't care which of the groups of oppressed is calling us out on our history. My ancestors made mistakes that were unforgivable and if we're NOT called out on it now, that history will be lost. The rich caucasian people in charge of these things have seen to it that the history we're taught is whitewashed to the point that we're not the bad guy. I've learned more from this page about the true history and extent of damage done by my people than the entirety of my public school education.
I appreciate you. As a Appalachian Melungeon (seen, lived, treated as german/Irish/polish looking white) woman I do not understand anyone saying they are anti racist and an ally and having any issues with admitting the history. It's hard, it's sucks, it's isn't kind ABSOLUTELY.
no one should be exempt from valid criticism from anyone else. we all have things to learn! I don't know why people feel the need to defend people from the past and their unethical ways.
As a Texan parent I was APPALLED to learn texts of history were written by and or approved by the daughters of the confederacy! On slavery, the PARAGRAPH dedicated to African slave Deere vastly treated well with a minority mistreated. Then the civil war over states rights blah blah. Physically disgusted and appalled i untaught on the daily all 3 of my children and gave them facts, brutal as they grew more age appropriate but never let fly the bullshit my CHRISTIAN neighbors saw as perfectly ok. I get crap about my “woke” kids but it’s disgusting the absolute hypocrisy and ignorance allowed. Well noon my house.
Am elated to see an educated Brotha speak on this it needs to be common knowledge not a secret Ooh n had you gotten messy Ooh I’d gotten down in the trenches wit ya😡🤬
I'm a white woman. Watching some of your videos is hard. Just like it was hard to learn that my family enslaved people in WV. I think a lot of folks don't remember that WV was part of Va for a long time and many enslaved people, even relatively small landholders. It matters! Even if they only enslaved one or a few. And it can be hard to accept that I'm standing on others even though white men are standing on me. History is hard for all to learn but we need to learn it all, not just the parts that make us look & feel good. While I believe that it is human instinct to distrust what is different, we in the USA have taken this to a whole new level throughout history and we need to learn to do better.
I wish more teachers were even half as versed in the full history (not just the nice parts) of our country as you are. Might help slowly reverse the brainwashing that starts at a young age and keep it from forming the racists of the future.
I feel exactly the same as @googletakesovertheworld, who said; "As a white woman, I love what you are teaching. I learn so much and appreciate how you explain things to all the racists out there. Much love." There has not been a post yet that hasn't resonated with some action or circumstance I've witnessed or experienced. Keep speaking that knowledge and we will keep trying to educate our fellow melanin deprived kin. #BlackLivesMatter #TaxTheRich
Keep teaching. Facts matter. In New Zealand I found out a lot a did not know about white treatment of the Maori.through TikTok. It is time that historical records should record both the perspective of the winner as well as the loser. We have the ability to do that now when verbal histories were harder to keep
Sir, you know the saying "behind every good man is a good woman." It can be said the same "behind every bad man is a bad woman." Someone was egging the slave owner on.
White woman ally here. The Confederacy never conceded, so what we are experiencing now is what they meant when they said, “The South will rise again." This time they will concede and reparations will definitely be in order. Peace. Outcha. 😊
What people don’t realize is that yes, women have their own issues when it comes to rights, but that is absolutely incomparable to what the entire white race did to black people regardless of gender, and it’s important that we acknowledge the past in order to move forward with the whole “liberty and justice for all” thing.
as a white afab, the idea that all white women were unwillingly along for the ride is... wow, simultaneously making excuses for them and infantalizing them, it's almost impressively ignorant

You, sir, are amazing. I love your videos, I love the way you educate, I just love you man! Keep up the good work! Minds and hearts need changing, and you are helping in an extraordinary way!
It is what it is.. ✌🏾🖤
One thing We can do is, teach Our history at home.
Oh lawd the blood is boiling in some folks after this educational moment 😂
Thank you for being such a fantastic educator Sunn! I'm Australian, and have been finding out a lot recently about the history and current day effects of slavery. There's so much I have to learn about African-American history in general as well, and you are one of many black content creators I've been learning from lately. There's such a rich history and so much about African-American cultures, and I'm excited to learn as much as I can! I'm disabled and can't work so I'm trying to use my time to learn 😊
I'm also nonbinary, and appreciated the quick "male, female, or otherwise" that you threw in!
FACTS ARE FACTS!!!! Fuck anyone that can’t handle ‘em!!!! ✊🏼*
*Apple needs to make a Left hand emoji
🤣🤣VG
They better leave you alone 😂😂😂
I love it 💚 get em straight Sunn m/Cheaux 😂😂😂😂
Thumbs up, every video I've seen of yours!! Subscribed, notification bell on!
After you spoke about Toni Morrison Beloved, I bought it and once I am done with my current book, I’m starting that one. Thanks for th knowledge.
I love this cause it really reminds me it aint no point in getting crazy pissed bout lies white people say on the internet. Facts are facts
The video ain't messy, but I'm sure the looks on them Karen's faces messy 🤣🤣🤣
As a not black person, I am now seething, SEETHING I tell you, with envy that I will never be able to use the phrase 'Release the Blacken'.
no one should be exempt from valid criticism from anyone else. we all have things to learn! I don't know why people feel the need to defend people from the past and their unethical ways.
It must be that they agree with those uneth8cal ways.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😊
Truth hurts, but it can also set you free.
The best place to start a change in thinking amongst your people is at home with your family, and will spread from there.
Love your content!👊🏽
I wish more teachers were even half as versed in the full history (not just the nice parts) of our country as you are. Might help slowly reverse the brainwashing that starts at a young age and keep it from forming the racists of the future.
some of these comments made me think - these people have not heard of Karens - so that last response made me think THANK YOU.
I feel exactly the same as @googletakesovertheworld, who said; "As a white woman, I love what you are teaching. I learn so much and appreciate how you explain things to all the racists out there. Much love."
There has not been a post yet that hasn't resonated with some action or circumstance I've witnessed or experienced. Keep speaking that knowledge and we will keep trying to educate our fellow melanin deprived kin. #BlackLivesMatter #TaxTheRich
Thank you for sharing.
Facts!!!!💯
This video is much more my style great points made.
Facts are facts, and facts can be proven.
And you proved that 😮
Man. Daughters of the Confederacy. Like. Duh.
Didn't put that together.
I remember John Oliver and Vox bringing them up.
Thank you very everything you do the way you teach is so digestible do you have any books? Love what you do much love my buddy my pal
You can come for Bonnie, Becky, Karen, Kirsten- all of dem
Always on point.
Haven't these people heard of Delphine LaLaurie? I'm not American and I know who she is.
Well, nothing I disagree with here and I'm a 51yo white woman. Now I've gotta' backtrack to the Bonny & Clyde video, seeing as I missed it.
Consider my eyes opened.
Man! I just love you. 😊
They enslaved folks as well and could be cruel as the men. This oh poor me ,the misogyny is too much,as she crushed the skulls of enslaved children.
This is awesome! Thanks!
🙏🙏🙏
