    I am interested what people think about Gary. His delivery is just spot on with the vocals and guitar tone. His delivery is astonishing. I think of his playing and singing as a perfect marriage. The control is epic and the emotion and combination of these things show us Artist of great magnitude. I know it is just music...but, I don't know many people that can give me chills like this. His guitaring is pure naked brilliance.

      Lots of guitarist can play lots of notes very quickly… But Gary knew how to do it to great musical effect, not simply showing off! The range of tones he achieved, and the emotion he conveyed… absolute genius, and a massive loss to the world.

    Spot on, from my point of view.
    This live version is extremely similar to the studio original, which I would recommend that you listen to. You could skip to the second guitar solo, as that’s where the subtle difference kicks in. The studio environment, with a) the ability to try multiple takes (or even stitch takes together), and b) the restraint of a producer telling him to just lay off the shredding, turned out a much more intense and soulful result.
    The studio version of this song was one of two songs I ever heard in my life that compelled me to stop my car and just listen the first time I heard it on the radio. It was the outro guitar solo that got me in this song (along with its buildup). The other song was Tip Of My Tongue by Diesel, a very different song to Still Got The Blues, but a very compelling and unusual song and sound.

    • @Isleofskye
      @Isleofskye 2 года назад +5

      I understand why you said "skip" on the basis you gave already heard the studio version but it should be a criminal offence to skip any part of Gary's work:)

      @sean---the-other-one 2 года назад +2

      @@Isleofskye
      I only suggested it here as Gary and the whole band do an incredible job of replicating the studio version here live. I had to listen hard i. The first couple of bars to tell if they had just dubbed a live video with the studio recording. But in this instance it is definitely the subtle restraint of the studio version in the outro that retains all of the incredible skill and soul of his performance and jettisons the unnecessary finger-exercise shredding.

    Gary Moore - Still Got The Blues (Lyrics):
    Used to be so easy to give my heart away
    But I found out the hard way
    There's a price you have to pay
    I found out that love was no friend of mine
    I should have known time after time
    So long, it was so long ago
    But I've still got the blues for you
    Used to be so easy to fall in love again
    But I found out the hard way
    It's a road that leads to pain
    I found that love was more than just a game
    You're playin' to win, but you lose just the same
    So long, it was so long ago
    But I've still got the blues for you
    So many years since I've seen your face
    Here in my heart, there's an empty space
    Where you used to be
    So long, it was so long ago
    But I've still got the blues for you
    Though the days come and go
    There is one thing I know
    I've still got the blues for you

    Gary can really make that guitar sing the blues. The guitar used to belong to Peter Green-a founding member of Fleetwood Mac. The top pickup was installed backwards by the Gibson factory (not all that uncommon) and results in a unique sound of a Fender-like brightness combined with the Gibson dirtiness. Gibson offered to fix it for Peter, but he refused. Peter sold the guitar to Gary Moore, whom he gave guitar lessons to, for the price he paid, I think $695. When Gary died (2011) the guitar went into various collections until it is reported that Joe Bonamassa bought it and still uses it today.
