We explored the city of Budapest in just 24 hours. We started our daying taking in the views from Fisherman's Bastion and crossed the famous Chain Bridge. We found quirky sites like the Michael Jackson memorial tree and tried traditional Hungarian dishes like goulash. We discovered the unique ruin bars in the Jewish Quarter and tried the potent Hungarian fruit brandy pálinka. We marveled at the magnificent St. Stephen's Basilica before meeting up with friends for a fun craft beer tasting. Budapest was full of surprises and delights that left us shocked by this pearl of the Danube.

The “black tower” is called the hussar tower. It is called the hussar tower cos the little tower sits on the roof of the church like a hussar on his horse. Because it sits on the middle of the roof it had to be built from a light material (usually wood). This particular hussar tower has a red copper cladding to whitstand the weather that’s why it appears to be black. Besides its decorative function it serves as an access point to the middle of the roof in case the roof needs repairing. It also houses the smallest bell in the church which was sounded only when someone (important) passed away :)
Always happy when a visitor takes the small effort to learn to pronounce the city's name properly.
We spent 4 days in Budapest in December and loved it. Visited some of the same places. Some of our favorites were the Jewish Quarter, Parliament, and the Central Market ...and of course Christmas Markets.
The small black (or dark brown) tower is called the Hussar Tower. It’s a copper-covered wooden structure added by the architect Schulek and meant to sit on the spine of the roof like a Hussar on his horse.
Haven't been yet, but friend said like a capital of an Empire.
Because it was the capital of an empire!
Fun fact, Mr Biro of Bic biro fame is also from Budapest!
What a beautiful city! Watching you guys could prove expensive! 😂
Thank you for bringing back Happy memories of Budapest and walking so much. Wonderful history, brilliant views and fantastic food. Plus the gorgeous indoor Market.
Thank you so much for saying Budapest correctly! :)
No correctly!
1:40 Saint Stephen. The state founder.
The traditional depiction of King Matthias has a laurel wreath on his head.
The reason for the popularity: the last time the country was stable and legally ordered during his reign. After his death, a continuous crisis followed the Turkish wars.
His nickname is Righteous.
His coat of arms shows a raven holding a ring in its beak. This is the coat of arms of the Hunyadi family. He came from this family.
Hungarian churches are live churches, not museums. This is how religious activities happen. This main function always comes before serving tourists.
11:28 I recommend a simple and traditional cocktail. It's not really trendy anymore, but it's extremely refreshing in the summer. This is the fröccs ( cca splash). It has two components: sour wine and carbonated water. Its name depends on the wine-water ratio and the quantity.
11:48 the inventor of the ballpoint pen is Hungarian, László Bíró. There are places where the invention is called biro.
12:59 Being canonized requires more than being a king. There must be some kind of miracle attached to it. In the case of Saint István, the miracle was that his right hand remained intact after his death. It's in the basilica.
Another great vid guys. Love the Blur patch Jeremy!
I loved Budapest ..and the surrounding places are lovely too
Beautiful city which again I had to go there for five days with work after being in Germany and Austria, and was so easy to drive there. . Great vlog both, you present in such a fantastic relaxed manner.
I think it's one of the only European capitals and countries I've never been to. It looks amazing.
Then it's time for a fantastic trip.
It's like looking at London from 200 years ago, before the onslaught of gray and glass buildings took over and ruined everything.
There are still a lot of buildings where you can see gun shot holes from WWII and the 1956 Revolution.
I went to Budapest not long after the Berlin wall came down, so over 30 years ago. I recognised lots of the places you went to but it looks much wealthier now - it was all a bit run down looking when I was there but was still beautiful
Great tour❤
so safe .. wonder why
It was great seeing you guys! 🍻
It's funny seeing what you guys were up to just hours before our meet up. You were walkin' all around our hood. 😂
We only just left Budapest for good, and we're going to miss it for sure. 😢
Nice meeting up with Brandon and Anja! We watch them, too!
Hello Cara and Jeremy. Back when I toured Europe, Hungary was behind the "Iron Curtain". I certainly missed out. So beautiful. I did get to Vienna, the other historical imperial capital, but I really should plan a trip to the bits of Europe I missed.
I recently saw a Brett Cooper report from Budapest, but I preferred this one.
I learned French and German in my English school, but you could not really get a language course in Yorkshire dialect to converse with my nan, but I spoke it at home, so no problem.
Not only You where paying the tourist prices but possibly got some "tourist quality" pálinka as well. Pálinka is at least 50% alcohol so yeah it has a kick, but it is made out of fruit so You should be able to smell and taste the fruit.
This is up on our city break list! We want to bathe in the spa waters. The food looks really wholesome. Another great video 🍻
I would love to go back for the spas. They seem really neat! Thanks for watching. 😀
I'm going to Budapest on May 20th for 4 days always been on my bucket list not sure where to start as going solo.
I always think of paprika when I think of Hungarian food.
Love Budapest. Their dentists are brilliant and Sooo cheap!
12:12 I was at that basilica in 2008 and saw a woman on the grass verge there walking a ferret on a lead (which seemed odd). Only years later did I see 'The Big Lebowski' and realised she was probably a fan of that film, in which some Germans do it.
Ferrets are pretty cool just in general (as long as you don't tangle some raw meat in front of them), and you can train them. I wouldn't say they are very popular pets, but it's not uncommon.
Shame you mainly visited various pubs and restaurants, i would advise that if and when you go back, visit the famous bathes - such as Szechenyi or Gellert, and the famous coffee shops (Budapest is very famous for coffee shops).
@TheMagicGeekdom my Hungarian Girlfriend would be very proud of your pronunciation of Budapest with the"scht" at the end🫡👌💙
Strange pronunciation of apricot though.
When Michael Jackson filmed here (Budapest, Hero Square) the videoclip for History song he stayed at that hotel (and then he stayed there another two times).
Did anyone notice the weird Blimp/UFO object that you see at the 51 sec mark? I saw it a bit earlier too briefly at the 22sec mark.
Balloon observatory in far away for turist.
I love watching foreigners drinking pálinka :)
Loved your correct pronunciation.
My gf's mum sends us their homemade Palinka and with what i her sanded in sure if the world ended i could power a car with the stuff 😂😂
Love your vids, chaps. But why are you always 'SHOCKED'? Is it a click bait thing? The only shocking thing I saw was the prices in that bar.
I basically came here to say this. So many youtubers claiming to be shocked in the video title but then.... a regular video with zero shock. I enjoyed the video too and love Jeremy's Blur patch btw
Why were you shocked?? What did you expect? Detroit?
The whole of Europe is steeped in history. The more one understands the historic background, the more one understands the European soul and the way of life.
Wait a minute....are these guys brothers
Did you check out the statue of Peter Falk? 😂
1:10 There is no deeper meaning behind the "black" tower, most gothic cathedrals have them. It is clad in copper because these tiny towers are made of wood, not stone, as the roof structure could not support a heavy stone tower. The wood obviously has to be protected from the elements, hence the copper cladding. As the church has just been renovated and the copper is still relatively fresh, it has already turned from its initial copper-metal sheen to this brown stage. Within a few months or years, it will slowly take on the final turquoise green of old copper, like the green of the Statue of Liberty. This stage then lasts "forever" or at least many decades, until the copper is so thinned by weathering that it has to be renewed again, and American tourists will certainly speculate about the meaning of the "black" tower once again …
From a lesser person that would be a patronising and pretentitious comment, as is it from you....
When I saw shocked. In the title, i thought it was a bad visit, that word must be used for the negative. It’s grammatically confusing.😮
i think you are starting to see europe is better
What do you think of the political situation in Hungary?
1:27 !!! Hello !!!! I ' am a great misfits , samhain and DANZIG fan !!!
