Makes me happy to see you restore some vintage Marx trains, many kids whose parents could not afford Lionel’s happily played with Marx trains including me. They were rugged toys and those electric motors never die!
My uncle asked for Lionel, but received Marx. He hated it! I don’t the heart to tell him how much that Marx set would be worth today, and would still run.
Fantastic new additions! Congrats on getting a Marx locomotive with the steam chest. These are very hard to come by and are well desired. Marx are very good smokers. 😊
I use some of the same components that you do for cleaning and restoration. I don't use vaseline but use white lithium grease instead. I also use armor all for the painted and plastic surfaces, works well. I don't always use LaBelle but use RemOil gun oil, works well on both trains and firearms. I keep a generous supply of brushes and springs on hand so when I obtain an additional locomotive I install new brushes. WD 40 is some of the best stuff around. Works well on the old tin plate 4 wheel cars for cleaning and removing rust and scale. Great tips and it's difficult to kill a Marx motor. Easy to work on.Take care and God bless.😎🚂🚃🚃🚃✝
Very clever using the floss pick for contact slide locator. 😊😊I like repurpose of trash/scrap items for solutions to a train fix. Repaired trains are the best.
Marx guy here, that C/P rust bucket looks just as bad as the all black " midnight Express" looked when I received it, which appears on my" Custom Marx Trains Debut" video.
That Marx 1666 motor runs very smooth again. If I may ask, what is your experience with the Vaseline? Sometimes I hear that it dries out and the gears get stuck. I also use it on my trains and have had no problems with it yet, but it made me doubt using it. I didn't know Marx even recommended it, good to know! For lubrication I use normal car engine oil (5W30).
I used out of date Vick’s Vapor Rub for nine years ( until I ran out ), and have yet to have a problem. So I had to break down and spend the $5 for a container of Vaseline!
Have the public view a layout of fresh from China shiny new plastic trains and one setup with old rusty metal trains and they'll favor the rusty ones. Just so they run well is all that matters. Old vintage Marx and Lionel in rough shape turn purist collectors off but they draw the masses in like iron filings to a magnet.

I have found that Marx trains are excellent smokers. Great video!
Marx had a knack for simple design that worked!

I enjoy repairing the broken ones. They are keepers!
Wow, that was lucky having that dusty, crusty, rusty engine run as it did! AND being complete as well!
Dave, those some great finds. I really like the side smoker.
I hadn’t realized how expensive the side smokers are, so I’m very pleased with the deal.

My son is going to clean and lube the engine, but just clear coat the body. Kind of like a rat rod locomotive!

Funny that Vicks Vapor Rub works as well for lubrication. Creative solution again. And the engines must smell nicely minty than. 😀
What is the actual name for the fiberglass pencil on Amazon, thanks Dave

@@OldFrailandDecrepit Thank you, will order one from Amazon

Well said. I certainly am more impressed with an 80 year old train on the move.
When I find something in horrible condition, I buy it and i fix it. It works 89% of the time.
One of my favorite things about this hobby.
