Great! Glad it was helpful. Sometimes people get too stuck in the details of all the protocols, so it's always nice to get a high level perspective of a bunch of protocols!
We have a workshop in The HQ PRO where we talk about sync systems and how they can work. Generally you wouldn't use those unless you actually need frame sync, so in that case I don't consider it a "general use communication protocol" in the same way that we do these ones, but instead something you have to do to achieve a certain condition that you have.
Thanks for this informative video! I need to send back and forth between python and TD both image files and table data files (ca 200 numeric values) at a framerate 30fps and with good synchronization. NDI works perfectly but only for images. Any suggestions how I can package both img and a table in one go? ( Numpy array from a table row converted to TOP returns errors as the data contain values with are negative and outside of 0-255 domain). I would appreciate your suggestions!
touchin/out - I have the touchout IP of the sending computer, which is pinging fine, network ports are matched...but not receiving anything from the touchout. any recommendations?
Great topic! Loving the cover image!
Thanks!
thank you! this topic is exactly what i was searching for

Very comprehensive and useful summary. thx!
No problem, glad I could talk about a bunch of them together and talk through how I decide which to use.
nice presentation, thank you!
Our pleasure :)
Thank you so much! This is very helpful. But how about sync in and sync out? Could you have a video to talk about sync? Thanks in advance.

If you're using Windows, it's worth checking your firewall settings as they may be blocking data from TouchDesigner: docs.derivative.ca/Touch_In_TOP
