    Was it right for Prince Andrew to attend Prince Philip's memorial?

    • @happyinparis
      @happyinparis 2 года назад +8

      Yes. It was his father's memorial. Even people in prison are usually allowed to attend a loved one's funeral. Andrew hasn't been convicted of a crime. He's been a creep, in my opinion, but he is a human being and so is Her Majesty the Queen. I was not at all offended by him being with his mother at his father's funeral. They are still family and this was definitely a family event.

      @@happyinparis You are absolutely right. Whether we like Andrew or not is immaterial. He has not been found guilty of any crime and attending his fathers funeral and memorial service is the right thing to do. Not forgetting that the woman who has accused him has not been proven to be a reliable accuser even if we ignore the fact that at 17 she was an adult at the time and had not been very reliable with her stories! In my book Andrew was stupid and thoughtless but no worse than all the other prominent people (eg Clinton, and many other influential American politicians and businessmen) who frequented Epstein’s properties and gatherings. But he was singled out because the woman’s lawyers decided he would be the easiest target for extracting a large payment. And in addition it wouldn’t harm any prominent American’s reputation.

    Andrew was there as a son and as a family member. The Queen was clever in that by having Andrew escort her they were the last to arrive via the side door, the first to leave, and straight back to Windsor with Andrew not being on show to the public and not involved in the London receptions after the memorial. As you say, she really does think things through.

      No, she doesn't. All she can do over & over again is protect and defend that piece of dreck from his OWN errors of judgment and arrogance. He is now being discussed in the context of yet another lawsuit, concerning money laundering and the theft of funds from a Turkish millionaire.
      No one would have begrudged him his attendance at the memorial; with his daughters. No one! But for the Queen *as the Queen she can never cease to be until she dies*, to give escort duties to him was a major error of judgment on her part.
      And doing so DID take the focus off honoring Philip, & whether that was the "newspapers invention" or not, many people were shocked that She would do this.

He has not been charged with anything. VG was looking for a payday and he was the poor sod she used to get it.
      HM was determined to attend PP memorial service and I for one am glad Andrew was there to support his mother in achieving her goal and no doubt keeping the promise to her husband to fulfil his final wishes, which due to Covid she was unable to do, last year. It was reported that the final decision about the Queen attending was about two hours prior to the event. We could see how frail she was, and perhaps it was knowing Andrew could support her that swing the decision. He was the only unaccompanied royal present so he was, a logical choice. It was a memorial service not a state banquet. I have never liked the man but they let convicted murders attend the funerals of close relatives, so his presence did not offend me. I think he was been convicted by the media for his lack of judgement with Epstein more than the fact he had sex with a high flying prostitute of legal age.

      I agree with everything you said until the last line. Virginia signed a sworn statement in previous criminal court cases that she NEVER had sexual contact with Prince Andrew. Had it not have been for the queen's jubilee year, Andrew would have insisted on a jury trial to prove his innocence even though this was only a civil case, he's never been formally accused through any complaints to the police. There were no complaints to any police. Had a jury trial occurred, Virginia would HAVE to attend the court in America where she herself would be arrested for trafficking young girls, making several lies in court ( until caught out by the judge) so Andrew would have won his case anyway. She lied yet the media vilify him still. Disgusting. Yesterday he conducted himself perfectly whilst supporting his mother and distancing himself from senior royals while seated. Angela Levin is wrong to condemn him. All Virginia's previous legal documents are available for anyone to read where they are stamped and released by the courts. Perhaps now is the time the media in particular but all those skeptics took time to read those documents. I'm proud of Andrew for what he did yesterday.

      My problem (if it can be termed that, I don't know these people, but anyway!) - My problem is not that Andrew was there. He had the right to attend his father's memorial. But to escort the Queen? To drive to and from Windsor Castle with her? The Queen is the source of honors. To give such a privilege to that piece of ... dreck, that was a major error on her part. A lot of people have said "well she needed an escort; well it was her right to choose; well, he was the obvious choice because everyone else has a spouse ..." all these excuses are BS in my opinion. To the first, any strong arm would do; even her daughter's. To the second, as the Queen, she should not have chosen that shady arrogant slob as her escort; it honored him and that was a bad mistake *as a Queen*. She never ceases to be The Queen even in times of mourning. She must uphold the dignity of that style and duty at all times. To the third, Princess Anne or Prince William could very, very easily proudly and willingly driven to Windsor to accompany the Queen to and from and their spouses would have coped marvelously in the Abbey.
      And the optics would instead have been focused where they should have been: on Philip, his accomplishments, on honoring *him* instead of all this talk about that shady as heck, compromised slob of a son that his foolish mother can't seem to stop protecting & covering for.
      Oh, and plus, the Court Circular which is sent to the newspaper for publication, had Prince Andrew escorting his daughters (who have spouses!) Who decided almost last minute apparently to bring Andrew in her car and provide an arm? The Queen. Even her own people didn't know until she allowed this.

Prince Charles escorts Camilla and William Kate. Everyone had a spouse but the widow and her one son. And she loves him and I believe he loves his mother. It's her business and her decision. We should respect that. My husband recently passed away. We have a daughter who chose a life of drugs. She's in and out of jail. She refuses rehab. We took in her children, ages 2 and 3, over 4 years ago. I took care of my husband while he was dying and I took care of her young children. I still take care of her children full-time. We have no figure in the United States that is above the divisiveness and contentions of day-in and day-out political grabs for power and money, thus much American admiration of Queen Elizabeth. Of course Americans are interested, the United Kingdom is our oldest and consistent ally. Prince Charles, when he ascends the throne likely will have some difficult choices to smooth the way for William and Catherine. Prince Charles receives almost no acknowledgement for his works, including substantial fund raising for youth issues of all types, leading public appearances and endeavors with Princess Anne. And the press wants to give Handbag Harry a free pass. American western phrase is short and accurate: “Harry and Meghan, all hat and no cattle.” Prince Harry with the equivalent of a United States high school diploma is going to tutor the world on compassion, trashed your family, yeah? Harry with his grandmother’s undiminished love attacks his father? That is a variation of the brazen act of duplicity and fraud to monetize your family, Handbag Harry. Harry and Meghan consistency use the late Princess Diana, diminishing her memory, making Diana appear pathetic rather than celebrating Diana’s humanitarian work. So, UK, better to take 'em back so they can be washed and brushed to be set out again on the balcony.
      The Oprah interview catapulted Meghan and Harry into celebrity. It takes a special kind of hypocrisy to trash the family you were born into while capitalizing on its name, a successful strategy. Now it appears Oprah Winfrey has lost a good deal of credibility with, if not the press, other media addressing the allegations from the infamous interview now said to be removed from most media access. Coming to my country and appropriating race, wading into Black communities for to validate Meghan's race card, is their business. Talking about mental health is all about Harry; Harry had no joy with his onerous responsibilities as a member of the working royals, those trips as envoy to Nepal, South Africa, Lesotho, New Zealand, and other countries where he was received by enthusiastic crowds interspersed with polo matches, drunken revels quickly bandaged over; no joy, no joy at all. You quit with tens of millions in your pockets. Enough.
      Suing for security while attending a rodeo in an open gun and concealed gun carry state? If someone wanted Harry harmed, just come to the US. For so many Harry needs to stay out of our American veterans’ affairs, the Salute to Freedom generated a backlash from our veterans. Harry has his service medals for his 10 years of military enrollment, which he is entitled to wear and Harry wears frequently. Harry received no medals for bravery, conspicuous gallantry, valor, extraordinary heroism in battle, or distinguished conduct. Why is Harry presenting medals to those with distinguished service conduct? Harry refused to support Nathan Hunt and his family, again shifting blame to his family--Diana would not have, give her that. Harry relinquished his appointments, entitlements, honorariums to be with the woman he loves, so fill the boots, Harry, and stop talking. Because in the category of 'it's all about Harry,' at the solemn occasion of honoring our veterans, those with us and those lost to us, Harry's remarks consisted of, "Just last week, I went for a ride on the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile - how’s that for living the American dream,” he told the audience at the Intrepid Museum.
      Typical post after the Salute to Freedom maneuvering for Meghan and Harry to appear: "I'm a proud American, daughter of a veteran and aunt of an army sergeant. I am appalled that a non-citizen, a "prince" from another country who has abandoned his country and his position in his country's military, in exchange for making a fortune, will be awarding medals to our brave U.S. veterans. Why would anyone bestow this honor on a traitor, I would love to know why our own commander-in-chief would be allowing this". There were calls and emails to Philip T. Reeker, charge d'Affairs ad interim, United States Embassy in the United Kingdom, to have appropriate people inform Prince Harry and Meghan Markle about the abuse of using titles conferred by another nation.
