Best bassist of all time.
The Major Rager!!!
GUARANTEED WITH LIFETIME WARRANTY
He’s up there
Top 5 at the very least. There are different approaches to playing bass.
See his performance of For Whom The Bell Tolls on The Live at the Green show in 1985, masterpiece of a performance. R.I.P master
That is the performance that made me fall in love with Cliff 💙
Hell yeah 🤘🏻
I was at that show and it changed the way I played bass forever.
Kooo
His best best performance was Live At Metal Hammer. First his bass solo followed by For whom the bells is just fucking incredible!
That bass solo was so epic he set the drums on fire
Cliff was a genius, and the musical soul of the band. Despite their success, the band has had a gaping hole in it after his death.
Couldn't agree with you more. I don't think the band would've gone in the direction they did if he was still around.
Their commercial success came off the back of his tragic death. If he hadn't of passed they wouldn't have taken the new direction after the justice album.
@@alexojeda9048 Cliff was a lot into classical music and different stuff other than metal. I think they would of eventually gone another direction.
Couldn't agree more with every comment so far, except Dan I don't think Cliff would of ever let Lars wear feathers.
@@alexojeda9048 Maybe not exactly how they did but they would've definitely gone to do some crazy shit with Cliff. The change would've probably been more extreme than what Metallica ended up doing.
If anyone inspired them to look outside Metal it was Cliff. Symphony & Metallica would've happened sooner and maybe even more frequently or even an full studio album. The album with Lou Reed, Cliff would've absolutely loved to do something with him, maybe not exactly what lulu ended up as but something.
Cliff literally said Metallica do what the want and if people consider it selling out then whatever.
R.I.P. Cliff Burton you'll forever be loved and truly missed always
Cliff's bass needed a cigarette after that
Cliff was an absolute god
Was?
@@kylesmith261 well yeah he's dead
Easily the greatest of all time.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize this was a bass solo when I was younger. Never heard distortion on a bass before, never heard harmonics on a bass before. RIP Cliff
Cliff was my first bass hero. He's the reason why I saved up for bass wah and distortion pedals. I played "Anesthesia" during my high school's afterschool talent show sophomore year and got a little choked up while I was up there.
Same here man. The first three major influences in my life to make want to play the bass guitar were Cliff Burton, "Geezer" Butler of Black Sabbath, and Gene Simmons of KISS.
Got to see Metallica w/Cliff in early 1985, headlining a show that had Armored Saint & WASP opening :)
We had to wait until 89 for Metallica to tour in Oz you Americans are very lucky.
@@jasjrock6424 We in Russia had to wait till 91 and the next gig was in 2006.
The question is: are penguins in the contest?
As a metallica fan of 27 almost 28 years ago, I can say that in addition to his humble personality, there was his immense talent, his death still cannot be overcome. Several hundred years may pass and it will be difficult to do.
He was 21 in this video. RIP!
All hail Cliff Burton the bass legend.
RIP Cliff
You should show this to your band's bass player.
WAtching Cliff em All on VHS blew my 14 year old mind. Got a bass the very next Xmas & been a musician now for 34 years. Thanks Cliff!
He did it for his brother and he fulfilled his promise good work mr. Burton we love ya
RIP Cliff, The ultimate head banger
Thanks Guys, Keep Rocking 🤟🤟
🤘🔥 RIP CLIFF 🔥🤘
🤘Thank You 🤘❤🇨🇦
the man was simply amazing
Helllllllllyeahhh!!! THAT'S Metallica dammit!! That energy, like the room's about to explode. Fuckyeah! Cliff was beyond amazing! Ahhhh, them good ol' days!
Rip cliff. We miss ya
The head banging was how cliff kept time when he was playing.
We miss you brother.
He was only 21 at time of recording
Iiiii love cliff Burton so amasing 🎸🎸🎸🥁
Yasss goddamnit! In heaven: on bass guitar 🎸 LEMMY & CLIFF 😎 drums Jon bonham ; guitar Hendrix and Dimebag; vocals Kurt & Freddy…. 🤘🏻
theeeeeeee legend i go up to his memorial every year in sweden
Fun fact, I got to see Cliff Burton’s Bass at the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland Ohio!
Thank you for doing this reaction video...RIP Cliff you are sadly missed. Such a virtuoso talent taken from us far too early.. imagine the music he would of made, imagine Metallica's albums had he still been around. Never been a more talented bassist since....🏴
Cliff🤘Best Bass!Hello from Russia!
When Cliff's brother passed away... Cliff made a promise to his brother... that Cliff will be the best bass player in honor of his brother... Cliff did it... and he did it in his own way... R.I.P. Clifford Lee Burton 😥😣😢😭😭😭😦😟😓
Its epic bass player and guitarist
Thank u for this reaction ☺️☺️☺️
Rip Clifford 😥
The major rager one and only Cliff Burton rip Cliff is the one guy in metal history in my own experience that me personally being a guitar player I have a lot of respect and see the base guitar in a hole new perspective ever since I seen him major inspiration love watching him and watching him play he's so inspiring lives and breathes that base
I saw this tour
Andy you da man for this request. R.I.P. Cliff em all ♥️♥️♥️
Still best bass player to have ever walked the earth and one of the greatest, true artist taken far too soon. Even though it's heavy AF I year up every time I listen to this masterpiece 🔥🔥😢 Thank you Wolf Hunters. Always enjoy your reactions.
Same here ..tear up just watching him , rediculous talent and down to earth clever person. After master of puppets imagine the next album had Cliff still been here...the world's loss.🤘🤘🤘
Cliff was the Randy Rhoades on the bass rest in Paradise my metal brother
Still makes the hairs on my arms stand up after all these years !
Sweetttty solo.. R.I.P. Master. Cliff is KING!!
When I was 13 I went with my dad and his girlfriend from Vancouver, BC to Portland, Oregon in the summer of 1983 to see Raven because my dad was a big fan of the NWOBHM and guess who was opening for them...that's right, WHAM!...just shittin' you, it was Metallica.
what a life.... world at there finger tips... from sheer determination....
Cliff Burton is to the bass what Jimi was to the guitar. R.I.P. to the G.O.A.T.
Cliff Burton was is and always will be a legendary bassist and musician.
Would love to see you guys react to Metallica “battery” live in Seattle 89. One of the greatest performances caught on film
Or "Whiplash" from this show which was played way faster than the original one!!
This guys gets it
The best bass player that has been on this planet #1
Everyday I listen to Metallica I always think of Cliff and wish he was still alive. I’ve followed them since mid 80s here in Ireland.R.I.P. Cliff -😢. . You should react to “ to live is to die” which is a instrumental in tribute to Cliff.
Brilliant!
Glorious
"He's Just a Baby" James Hetfield: "MR. CLIFF BURTON, awright....."
Cliff was an immortal soul if anyone ever heard one.
Imagine how great he could of been. RIP CLIFF
I actually found myself crying all the way through this because (A) that he was taken away from is so damn young, and (B) that he was so damn good that he could blow everyone else off the stage, including the rest of his own band.
It's just not fair that he's not with us anymore.
RIP Cliff . You will forever be the hendrix of bass
Rest Easy Cliff.! We miss you! Great reaction guys.!🤘🏼🤙🏼❤️🔥
Cliff Burton, The KTULU Of Rock....
I Would Be Very Pleased To Recommend To You “The Call Of Ktulu”, An Instrumental By Metallica, Where You Can Obviously Hear Burton On The Bass.
Trust Me, It’s The JACKPOT !!!
🤘🏻❤️🔥🤘🏻❤️🔥🤘🏻❤️🔥🤘🏻❤️🔥
P.S : It’s The Studio Version 🤘🏻🔥❤️
Thanks for your reaction. For more on cliff, try Cliff Burton moments, Cliff Burton's best solos & For whom the bell tolls--Day on the green 1985.
Congrats- No one before nor after will ever play bass like Cliff, he was truly the baddest man ever to play bass.. NOW to be more humble there was recently within the last year? I believe question is because it has been within 3 years of release where metallica members stated that Originally Lars was going to be leading the band with Drums then James was lead , and at one point they had a bassist before Cliff, but he would always be late to rehearsals, late to stage checks and so forth and so when they got into their first major Album while staying in New York they hired Cliff, but were uncertain of how long that would be because of his enthusiasm and stage presence while playing. After their first live performance they fell in love with Cliff and he became lead member, and to show how humble he was HE refused to take credit for over 7 songs he had written on their albums while he was still alive.
The late Cliff Burton 🤘
I think James had just turned 20, 9 days before this concert
Cliff Burton is the best metal bassist ever! Check out the beginning of Disposable Heroes. When the bass kicks in, thrash!! ❤️
I may have seen Cliff's first show with Metallica in Mar 1983. I saw them at The Stone in Frisco in Mar '83 and I read somewhere that his first show with Metallica was at The Stone in Mar. '83. But I also learned that they were at The Stone twice in March '83...and I cannot remember which one I attended. This video is a show after I saw them because Dave Mustaine was still guitarist when I saw them.
You two are so nice! Peace
Love your enthusiasm, a joy to see u really digging the music!
Cliff was and still is a Grand Master of The Bass (:. I dare say TITAN GOAT GOD Of The Bass (:. His influence on the Bass Guitar is Undeniable PERIOD (:
2022 Cliff
Greatest fucking bass solo of all time... but it wasn't just his playing that made him great, he taught the rest of Metallica Dynamics. They would not be who they are today if it word for cliff.
RIP Cliff
R.I.P. Cliff, taken waaaaay too soon
Man, this is Cliff Burton, is normal performance, master, master!
I was the at Solna hallen in back in the 1986 at sept 26 I SAW IT the day after he`s gone.....
Un grand bassiste malgré le peu de temps qu il a vecu. Encore aujourd hui il demeure un des meilleurs bassistes du metal. R.I.P Cliff
Cliff per sempre. Ciao da Firenze IT
Les Claypool from Primus tried out to replace him after his horrible death. Metallica thought he was too crazy.
I mean it ended up being the right choice since claypool os famous for his slap bass techniques and metallica’s style doesn’t fit with slap bass
I was raised on early Metallica/Maiden/Priest etc what an exciting time when everything was still new and pushing the envelope. I miss these days.. you should check out the Paul Gilbert/Billy Sheehan live Addicted to that Rush it has a dual intro solo to the song. Its mindblowing. from their Mr. Big show at the Budokan in 09...or live in San Fransico
The other thing that’s crazy is he died so young. Imagine how much better he could have gotten with more time and experience. He was definitely a phenom, like Randy Rhoades, who was taken from us way too soon. Cliff was also instrumental (no pun intended) with his influence in the band, teaching the other members more music theory and classical compositions. One of the greatest of all time! RIP, Cliff…and now your father has recently been reunited with you.
I find it hard to believe that you guys are a metal band and have not heard a lot of the songs you post videos of
If I ever meet the person who filmed this the beer is on me all night, There is footage of Cliff playing this in High school and Lars misses his cue
RIP Cliff, taken far too young. Just how much better could he have been had it not have been for the bus accident. One could not imagine.
6 min 34 secs Suzi says correctly (*commonly the though is that...) but in reality if the drummer and the bass player stop playing for the all band is a real problem . They play the two main instruments in a certain way . This is a piece of art
Please tell me I'm not the only person who knows or ever notice that he plays with all five fingers on the fret board
If only we never lost him.
I think the last game was also played by a cliff when the camera moved to james and a pickaxe. The sound of guitars is not audible at all. but it would be interesting to see the speed of the clip there. It's something with something 😱🧐🤯 But for the sake of the show it's very impressive
Cliff is like the Randy Roads of Bass.
Ahh, the Cliff Burton days... He was a unique talent on his instrument. Lars and James had only each other and saw Cliff play with another band and they said in unison "that's our bass player"... And Cliff eventually joined the band. He had a lot to do with the sound of early Metallica and the whole Thrash Metal scene that was being formed. Cliff was a talented musician and had some classical training on it, while James and Lars had largely self taught their instruments to them.
This version of anesthesia has some extra to it. Jason and Robert have played this later on for Metallica and they mightily struggle with the vanilla "album version" of this song. While Cliff has added all sorts of salt and pepper on top of the album version here. You really need to listen to them separately to appreciate the mastery of the instrument on display here... And Jason and Robert are no slouches at playing the bass... They would have never played for Metallica if they were.
You should check the clips from the "some kind of monster" documentary on "bass player auditions". They give you a pretty good idea how hard the bass stuff is to play for Metallica actually is.
Cliff was good on that fuckin bass. There never be another cliff
Please react to for whom the bell tolls day on the green live please
No one has yet been able to copy that 😁 Except a classical musician using notes. (S & M 2) 😉
HE IS METAL. RIP
React to Orion (Metallica) best base work ever
And of course, the cameraman has to focus on the other two while Cliff is slayin the bass solo even further 🙄.
If you haven't yet, check out the bassist from TOOL. He's also on a whole other level and I believe if Cliff was alive to see that band spawn onto the music scene he would've loved Tool also with the talent that band has
If Cliff would have lived, he'd of given Les Claypool a run for his money.
Damn l saw you blush when you spoke about him manhandling the bass
You should react to the S&M 2 Version of this from the San Francisco Symphony... Mad Cello skills!
The solo as well as the band died with cliff
Hey guys you have to react to the hu covering metallicas sad but true
Something else to keep in mind when the drums kick in......Lars is notorious for not being able to keep a stable drum tempo. So, Cliff is also compelled to modify his playing to stay in step with the drum.
James in the early '80s did look very young, like a schoolboy😂
the greatest tragety is watching two guitarists play an open e string while a a bass genius is off screen going nuts
Rip cliff
James is roughly 20 years old in this vid.
The solo from the Cliff'em All video with Dave Mustain introducing Cliff is actually the better one.
I recommend checking out Metallica ORION - Ten Levels Of Difficulty (Solo Bass Cover) by Chris Berthoud, he plays both of the guitar parts and the bass part at the same time on one 6 string bass.
Omfg....jeeeezus. Mind BLOWN. Seriously, thank you for that recommendation!
