I have the heljan 86 from 2010 which I've just started running and discovered that the complete buffer assembly with the small details isn't permanently attached to the chassis enabling the complete removal so you can attach couplings with no interference just simply gently grip the corners of the buffer assembly and gently pull forward. If don't mind having no buffers while running with a rake . You can then remove the couplings and simply push back the complete buffer assembly.
Thanks very much for your advice on removing the body Richard. Despite sliding four pieces of card between body and chassis it still wouldn't budge. So I watched this video and your tip holding either side of buffer beam did the trick! Cheers, Vivian.
I’ve just managed to shoehorn a twin speaker install into this model, a 25x25 and 26x14 just about squeeze in the space at the no.2 end of the wiring is routed via the side rather than centrally. It makes quite the difference!

Do the 27mm round speakers fit in the space provided for speakers in Hornby steam loco tenders?
No I do t think so
Interesting - where did you get that huge roll of Black Tack?
Ohh - I see that you have a website which sells it. I will have a look at this next time that I run out!
