- Calling home after his injury in Iraq was hard for Erick Lund, but the terrors of war made this soldier grateful for his family, the soldiers who carried him to safety, and his wife’s socks. Visit: bit.ly/3kK4qM6
Erick Lund is an extremely happy father and dentist. When he was 18 years old, he decided to join the army. After being engaged for only two weeks, he married his wife, Mandy. Three months later he was deployed to Iraq. His specific job rotated between driving the Humvee and being a 50-caliber machine gunner. He was out for 15 months when he was hit by roadside bombs. It was terrifying. It was a very humbling feeling to have a fellow soldier carry him in his arms. The shrapnel from the explosion hit different parts of his leg, his back, and his head. He also had a transmetatarsal amputation, leaving him without toes. He let that experience define him but not destroy him. Its purpose was to build and shape who he is. He believes in a God who loves him and doesn’t forget that easily.

Erick is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I was with him in Iraq and saw him serve the Iraqi people with honor and treat them with dignity. He was extremely happy before the IED, and seemed to be even more happy afterwards. What you're seeing in this video is the real Erick - happy, positive, confident, and complete love for life. He always smiles, never says a negative word, and makes everyone feel like they are the most important person in his life. Erick is great person.
Thanks for your service my brotha
Erick Lund:
"Hey Mandy? I lost half my foot and there's blood everywhere."
Later. . .
"I have a cat, pizza, kids and God. I'm okay."
Feel like crying right now, they are so blessed to have Brother Lund with them.
I can relate to the words his wife spoke on receiving that phone call. In 2005 I received a similar call from my husbands company commander telling me my husband was injured in Iraq. What got us through was our faith. We too are Mormons. This video reminded me how truly blessed we are that he made it through such a horrible experience. Thank you to Erick, and his wife for such a beautiful video and reminder to count my blessings.
His story reminds me of a missionary who used to serve in my ward. He also joined the army and was in Afghanistan when the building he was in blew up. It was a miracle he even survived, and even more so that he had no scarring or lasting injuries as a result of a priesthood blessing he received while in the hospital. Our veterans are truly incredible!
I'm not a Mormon myself, but I just had to stop and say thank you to this brave soldier. Even though he probably won't see my comment, on the off chance that he does, thank you, sir. It's because of strong, brave individuals like you that we still have the rights that we do have, freedom of religion included.
This guy is my principal's brother and I am told he was the nicest person you will ever meet thank you for your great example.
I may not be religious but my entire family has served and I'm glad to see another soldier smile.
Hey brother Lund I was thinking about you today at church I don't know if you remember me my name is clay Dawson and I was in the Columbia ward with you after the boundaries changed anyway I just want to let you know you have been a great example in my life and it was so awesome being one of your youth thanks do much.
I am in awe of this man, he has such an inspiring story I believe all men can learn from him.
Started going back to church again, Really happy to see this. Thanks!
Erick, thank you so much for you sacrifice to fight for our country. Thank you for sharing your faith and optimism. Also please thank your wife for the sacrifices she made while you were serving our country.
How can people dislike this. I don't care what demonination you are from, this man put everything on the line for each and everyone of us.
Well done Erick! Thanks for giving part of your life so others can enjoy freedom. You're a good man. Obviously 61 people must have had their cats die from tragic spinning accidents and stopped watching before the good stuff.

I'm not sure how so many miss the point of your story & focus on the cat (who seemed to be having a great time).

I love this story... it's great, i love how he said that his experience defined him rather than destroyed him... we can all learn to do the same. His wife many also said a great thing about looking at the details and seeing God's hand in your life. Great Great GREAT!
What a positive individual and family, and great example of service and faith. Thank you! :)
You are an inspirational man of God. Thank you for your sharing.
"I got Swiss Cheesed!" Love how he can make jokes about it instead of being gloomy!
What an amazing person you are and how we need more people like you right.
I wanna say ive watch this video a lot of times and i still love this video a lot
This is a grate example of how god sometimes gives hard things for a good thing. This has given me the faith and comfeart I need to get past the hard things these days. Heavenly Father bless you.🙋
Our Adam was done with Iraq, home dating his high school sweetheart, my step daughter. They extended his term. They had a weekend. A backyard wedding... a quick honeymoon. He left...in months he died. God does shape us and define us. His wife went on to medical school and now counsels our brave soldiers. She remarried his best friends older brother, who knew Adam well. They share his memory. It is sweet. Your body is beautiful Erick. Cute family! You have a crazy cat, though. It happens.
So awesome to see you guys post this:) aunt gaye and uncle john said you guys made a video! I'm excited for you're video and had no idea you became a denist . Eric, first of all let me say, "Thank you for your service and your sacrifice." You are an incredible hero. Your wife and your daughter are beautiful and deserve to have you home. I appreciate all that you stand for, in your wife's socks, and just want to say, "I, too, am a Mormon. . .and I'm very proud to be one."
Thank you for you service and sacrifice!
Wow. Thank you for this. And your service.
What a great video. Thank you!
Wonderful! Thank u soooo much for sharing your story.
Thank you for your service and for your positive-ness!
Thanks brother
What he said is so true. We all have tough experiences in our lives, but they are not meant to destroy us. They are meant to strengthen us and help us move towards our true potential. He and his wife are great examples of not allowing the hard things in life to make them bitter and resentful.
god bless you brother!
you and your family and pets are beautiful thank you for sharing that story with all of us God bless you sir be well and God bless!
I'd be so scared. Petrified, in fact, it's amazing he can be so happy even after such a horrible experience. I respect this man, if only for the fact he can have such faith in a loving God, in such a situation where he could have died. Thank you, brave sir. I hope i can one day joke about the scars my life has left me.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!

Inspiring story!
my dad is a police officer....... its a very dangerous job...... and 1 day one of his friends came........ they told us are dad got hurt........ he was rushed to the hospital .......... we did the same and my mom was panicking she was going back and forth....... then I felt the holy ghost and I felt god and Jesus........ they told me he was ok......... then a doctor came and said he was fine......... my mom stopped and looked at the doctor....... then looked at the hall and my dad was right there we all went to hug him but my mom stood there for a second........ then my dad held his arms out and my mom ran to him ....... she was so happy that he was ok and from now on i do good things for people who have disabilities and I always feel the holy ghost when I do good things and this is a really good example of that💦💦💦💦💦💦💦👼👼👼👼👼👼👼👼😷😷😷😷😷😷😷✨✨✨✨✨✨🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫👫👫👫👫👫👫👫💏💏💏💏

Amazing! God bless him!
We never know when we'll be called back home to Him that created us. We have to live every day like it was our last. Everyday is essentially a second chance to be the person we have the potential to be. What a great reminder. Thank you to all the service men and women who willingly put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms.
