Although I think the newer drums are made better with the thicker shells without the reinforcement rings, the vintage drums all have a unique sound like this one. I always preferred the looks of the Slingerland kits more, particularly the style of the logo. I play Gretsch now because of the 30-degree bearing edges, but I've never lost my love of the vintage Slingerland drums. I used to order the new catalogs every year, and loved the current drummer on the cover.

The only thing wrong with that kit is that it’s not currently setup in my basement. Ha! Steve - your playing, as well as Steve Jr’s and Noah’s too, always makes me wanna buy everything you guys demonstrate. I only own a few COB snares one Radio King WMP Cloud Badge snare, but I gotta get a Slingerland kit one day. My wife would turn me out into the street if I even thought about buying this one. One day though I’ll thin the herd and maybe get a COW kit? The one you played a few months back sounded phenomenal. I would put it up there with Jim Gordon’s Camco kit he played with Derek and the Dominos and numerous other bands and sessions. Take care and keep that hair growing! Winter will be here before we blink. ❤️☮️

Always loved the Slingerland logo! All my early drumming heroes played them. Such a shame that they are gone.

    Pre 1968 Setomatics.
    What a beautiful warm kit.
A lot of new drums don’t get this great sound..
Great to see a kit with a snare… a lot of “ shell packs “ these days..

I always say what’s one more and then my wife makes me sleep down in the basement hoard....er, I mean collection until I come to my senses. Just kidding. It is a great sounding and looking kit and there’s something about a 20” kick....I never owned a 20” but need to get on board. ❤️☮️🥁

@@Mat1970Thompson My current kit has a 16" and 18" kicks, but for vintage sounds, nothing beats a 20/12/14 kit...it punches just right...22/13/16 for a Ludwig though....those sizes work better for that sound to my ear. Looking for a Sonor Teardrop kit with a 20...

Bryan Herward thank you for the info. Good luck in your search for the Sonor kit. I’ve been collecting for a few years and I really enjoy searching for particular drums and cymbals and luckily finding them or something close, even if it takes several months. ❤️☮️🥁

@@bryanherward4679 I've had both of those kits, though the Ludwig with double toms and both with 16" on the floor. That Krupa just be unsurpassed in whichever size you have. The Slingerland is remarkably sweet.

@@robertalbiston7822 killer....agreed, it's just a great brass snare...great musical tone for jazz, but I first heard on at a rock show and had to know what the snare was...

    Another outstanding demo Steve!
    Digging the 17" hihats.

Hi Matt! Those hats are actually 16” and they are K Istanbul. They are killer! Also, the small crash is a 15” also K Istanbul. Even sounds good as a ride. Small crack at the bell but a killer cymbals. The main ride is an A, 18” with rivets. It’s one of those that is ‘OK’ but not great as a main ride, but these were what came with the kit so we wanted to show it complete for the video. The cymbals will be sold separately.
