    I love how cozy and beautiful your growing space is. It looks like it might be so relaxing to sit there with a nice cup of tea! I love also how many different cacti and succulents you have, and how much diversity, different shapes, sizes and colors. It's so cool!! Everything is so well organized too.

      +Orchids & a Dutchy Thank you so much Andrea for your wonderful comment :-) I love sitting in there with a nice cup of tea, its a great room for the sun, and the cacti love it, in the Winter though it attracts a lot of condensation because of the glass roof, but in the spring and summer and autumn its a dream as it lets in so much sun :-) Thanks so much for watching and sending you and cutiepie Hugo loads of love and plant power from Ireland to Finland for a fantastic day XXXXX

    Wow, what a neat section of your house with all the window panels for an abundance of sunlight. Perfect area for indoor plants to get sufficient enough light to carry out photosynthesis while being completely protected from the harsh weather conditions such as frost and rain that are so unforgiving on unprotected cacti and succulents. 🌵👀👏. ✌️

    WOW so stylish! From the design of the first room to the crystals and the way you arranged the plants, looks soo elegant and appealing, you should make open house for public. I love the nepenthe's pot, so original and unique, not to mention the plant itself is doing so well, love also what you've done with that jade plant and I really have to put my hands on one of those string of pearl plant. Thank you so much for this video!

      +Toby Graham Hi Toby :-) Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching :-) I am not sure what part of the world you are in but Unfortunately I have had to stop sending cuttings via post overseas as I had a lot of them returned back to me because of the postal service here in Ireland can be a bit fussy about sending cuttings overseas, if you are in Ireland or the UK I would be more than happy to send you a cutting in the post, but because at the moment it is starting to come into bud, I would have to wait until early next year before I will be taking cuttings, but you would be more than welcome if you are in Ireland or UK :-) Thanks so much for watching and have a fantastic day ahead XXXX

    Awesome collection you have. I'm in the southern hemisphere [Cape Town South Africa] where we have very hot long summers and I was wondering if cactus will do well here in such a glass/aluminium sun room. I built one a few years ago but it gets too hot for regular plants which burn, shrivel up and eventually die. My dogs now enjoy it as their personal sauna #LoL.

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  8 лет назад

      Thanks so much Aden for your wonderful comment :-) LOL! at your Dogs enjoying your sun room as a Sauna :-) the good news is Cacti love a really hot dry conditions and if you have a sunny room they will thrive where other plants will shrivel up, the best cacti to go for are the Desert types instead of the rainforest ones like the Epiphyllums or Christmas or Easter Cacti because these cacti like a much more humid and shadier spot than the Desert types, but the Desert cacti like the Rebutia's Mammillaria's Lobivia's Ferocacti etc love a hot sunny spot, on very hot days it would be best if you can still provide lots of ventilation with windows open for fresh air, because very hot dry conditions can make cacti take on a bit of a yellow appearance without fresh air and they are more prone to bugs like Spider mite and Mealybug under glass and can still suffer scorch cacti behind glass if not given enough ventilation with windows open on hot days :-) good luck with growing your cacti and thanks a million for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happiness from right across the Emerald Isle for a fantastic Tuesday XXXXX

    both the plants and your passion for them is beautiful..
    what which of the plants can grow without being exposed to sun?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  8 лет назад

      Thanks so much for your wonderful comment :-) all cacti and succulents need some type of sun exposure to thrive and most of them need as much sunshine as you can give them if growing them indoors and thrive in south facing positions that receive all day sunshine, but there are a few that need minimal direct sunshine and these are the Haworthia's and Gasteria's and some of the Schlumbergera ( Christmas and thanksgiving cacti ) and if you only have a position that doesn't receive much sun you would be best to choose the Haworthia and Gasteria and Schlumbergera cacti :-) thanks a million for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happiness from right across the Emerald Isle for a fantastic weekend ahead XXXXX

    This is awesome. I see your aloe vera plants @6:33, they look very similar to what I have. But my aloe plant leaves don't grow in a spiral order. Rather, they expand sideways into a fan shape. Do you know what type of aloe it is?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  8 лет назад

      Thanks so much for your wonderful comments :-) yes the Aloe's at 6:33 are Aloe arborescens and they are young seedlings that I have grown from seed, they are much bigger now and it sounds like your Aloe is the true Aloe Vera if it is in a fan shape and I bet it is a beauty :-) thanks a million for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happiness from right across the Emerald Isle for a fantastic Tuesday today XXXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  9 лет назад

      +390bear Thank you so much for watching, and so happy you loved the music :-) I stop watering all of the Desert types of cacti and most of the succulents from now until the beginning of March, but still keep the epiphytic cacti and some of my winter growing Succulents watered lightly :-) during the Spring and Summer months I water all of the plants as soon as they soil dries out, depending on the weather, but always letting the soil dry out for a good few days in between before watering them again, the only exceptions to watering are the Lithops and other Mesembs as I keep them dry during the Summer when the Mesemb succulents tend to have a rest period and only water the Lithops slightly when they have completely consumed their old leaves, but that a difficult one all together haha! :-) Sending you much love form Ireland and have a fantastic weekend XXXX

    I wanted to ask you.. I was at a home improvements store and they sell succulents but they are in pretty bad shape, i wanted to ask how do i know i can still save them?? For example there was a donkey's tail but it barely had any little leaves on it! I wanted to know if it can recover, i feel so bad for them and wish to save some !:-(

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  8 лет назад

      Thanks so much for your wonderful comment :-) I know what you mean about the bad condition a lot of cacti and succulents are in at the garden centres and I always feel so sorry for them too, the good news is as long as they are free from pests and diseases and are only looking bad from neglect they can recover really well, I have bought some poorly ones in the past an dgiven the correct conditions they pick up, but you do need to be very careful when buying plants that are not looking that great from the stores because if there are hidden pests on them it could introduce an infestation on your other plants, mealy bugs and spider mites are the biggest problems as they are hard to see as Mealies hide in tiny parts you can't see and spider mites are invisible to the eye, Donkeys tail should recover well and re grow their leaves if they have dropped leaves due to damage, I always find it an exciting challenge to rescue sick plants and save them and bring them back to health, but when I do i keep them isolated from my other collection to be on the safe side but they nearly always recover, and a lot of my collection that are wonderful today have been rescues from the past :-) I made a video last year of a cactus rescue of a cactus that was in bad shape and had a hat and fake eyes glued an dpinned onto it and I will post the link to the video here :-) ruclips.net/video/RvrKlF5eZkQ/видео.html thanks so much for sharing and sending you lots of love and happiness from Ireland for a fantastic Wednesday XXXXX

    I just got a CLEISTOCACTUS WINTERI 'Golden Rat Tail' it's 4 inch and a half stalks that are straight up and down right now...is it safe to keep in plastic pot and go 2 sizes up?? It's difficult to find clay pots in my area right now, so I am debating on what to do, or just leave them in the small 4 inch pot they came in, but I can until spring if need be..ant suggestions? ? Oooh, I also bought a couple monkey tail catcus that are amazing.Lots of love and light from indana as always :)

      @desertplantsofavalon  8 лет назад +1

      Thats brilliant news that you have bought a Golden Rats tail and a Monkey Tail cactus they are both so gorgeous to grow and I LOVE how they make the most amazing hanging baskets over time, the blooms on them are so amazing too :-) you should be perfectly ok to repot your Golden rats tail into a pot that is 2 sizes up and keep the soil dry for the next month to allow the plant to settle its roots and your plant will be absolutely fine :-) I bet your new Cacti are wonderful :-) thanks a million for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happy growing from Ireland to Indiana for a brilliant weekend XXXXX

      Thank you so very much. :) I'm not worried about flowers so much as just growth, but I know it's almost dormant season going into winter here..you inspire me and I learn so much from you :)) I need to start looking for a small green house soon, to make room for these guys and invest in small lights for the house because my small windows and window ledges are full and in a couple months snow will be flying. Hahaha. .thanks as always. .I appreciate all your advice and help, I'm so excited . I also got a blue cereus (not quite sure technical name right now) and a furry blue pilosocereus leucocephalus that is about a foot tall right now, that a nursery used as a stock plant, but I am just going to let him grow and see what happens. Then I got a few more random ones and I got a gymnocalycium that is supposed to bloom red..I think you showed one like it in a video before and I had to have one. Haha

      just another quick question. ..do you have videos on how to water with a smaller collection?? I seen you water with the pump sprayer, but I can't use that right now, and I tend to over water so I need to work on this...and I use one of those pitchers for plants that hold the water..I use tap water but let it sit out for days before I use it..but I tend to water too much ..I'm wondering if I should use a small measuring cup or a shot glass or something to gauge how much water each is getting..but I'm wondering if there is an easier way?? thanks as always and I appreciate the help

      Hi Lyn, this winter i wil start making cuttings from my plumeria ( thai gold).
      I would love it, for you to have them in your collection ,
      i know they would be in caring hands.
      Is it okay if i send you a couple of plumeria cuttings this winter? They are grown from seed.
      In your wonderful glashouse, they would thrive and bloom really wel and i would be able to see them on youtube haha!
      If you have no room ( they can become quit big), i ll understand.
      Greetings from Patrick!
