I get goosebumps every time I listen to Jonnys solo. He is a huge cornerstone in Coldplay, so sad people focus more on Chris (also talented) but damned, Buckland is great too!

For anybody wondering:
Jonny's guitar is tuned to Drop C# (imagine normal Drop D but every string is tuned one fret down). This tuning let's him play an open note during the solo, and it lets him play barred power chords.
Do you happen to have a tab of this version? I'm a pretty new player, and it's really annoying that the camera doesn't follow Jonny more. Especially the chorus is hard for me ("If you love me...").
+MrJeppe313 I had the same problem, but it's actually very easy. So, when he plays the main riff, assuming you're using the real tuning, the tab is 5-4-3-2 for the E, A, and D strings.
The prechorus is easy. Put your index on the 10th fret of the high E string, and put your middle and ring finger on fret 12 and 13 of the b string, respectively. Play this, and bend the b string using your both fingers just like in the song until the note sounds like the same note you're playing on the 9th fret on the high e. Listen to the song or watch Jonny play in a live video to get it right.
Now, for the chorus, play a barred power chord at the 7th fret. This means you use your index to fret the 7th fret of the E A and D strings. Mute the rest of the strings. To mute the rest of the strings, simply move your finger so that it frets the lower three strings but barely touches the higher strings to the point where it mutes them. Now, play another barred power chord at the 8th fret of the E A and D strings. Remember to mute the other strings. Now, simply go back and play a barred power chord at the 7th fret again. So far, we have 7-8-7 as barred power chords for the first half of the chorus.
Now for the second half, we'll use easier normal power chords. Play a power chord with your index on the 8th fret of the A string, ring finger on 10th fret of the D string, and pinky on the 10th fret of the G string. Now, move the power chord down to the 5th fret of the A string with your index finger, ring finger on the 7th fret of the D string, and pinky on the 7th fret of the G string. Now, move this down two frets. That means your index will be on the 3rd fret of the A string, ring on the 5th fret of the D string, and pinky finger on the 5th finger of the G string. Now, move back up two frets. Your index should now be back up to the 5th fret of the A string, ring on the 7th fret of the D string, and pinky on the 7th fret of the G string.
In the following tab, 6 means the thickest string (low E), and 1 means the thinnest string (high E). Remember that you're in Drop C# tuning, which is essentially Drop D a half step down.
So it goes:

Keep playing the last power chord ~8 times. Watch a live performance or listen to the song to hear the number of times he plays the power chord and ensure accuracy.
Now, after that, he plays something else. It's a double stop. Make a mini barre with your index finger on the 10th fret of the B and high e strings. Do downstroke, upstroke, then down stroke. Don't strum all the strings. Just do little strums near the B and high e strings. Use your index finger to lightly touch the G string to mute it. When you play the last strum on the riff, kill the notes (that means mute them), by using the rest of your fingers to lay them across the fretboard and mute strings. Keep the barre there. Keep your fingers down until it's time to play it again. When you play it again, just lift your other fingers off while keeping the 10th fret mini-barre on the b and high e strings. Play it again, only this time, add an extra upstroke. That means up-down-up-down. Use your index finger barre to mute the G string by touching it (not fretting it). Like before, when you finish the riff, kill the notes with your other fingers. Play the riff again. This time, it's just three strokes again. Now, play the main riff (5-4-3-2). Repeat the 10th fret mini-barre, doing the same thing as before.
After that comes the main riff again. Play the prechorus after that. After that, play the chorus. Refer to the paragraphs above if you forget.
After that, he plays the solo. The solo isn't too hard. Place your index, middle, and ring finger on the 9th fret of the G string. They don't all have to be on the 9th fret, just make sure they're behind the ring finger to make the upcoming bend easier. However, make sure your index is on the 7th fret on the G string. So, when you strike the string, bend it up slightly so that it makes the same note it makes at the 10th fret. Release the bend, then lift of your fingers until it's just your index at the 7th fret. Here comes the slightly tricky part. Get your pinky and use it to fret the 10th fret of the G string. To help make this easier, put you thumb on the back of the neck rather than over the neck (just like when you're playing a scale or a chord that requires stretching). Only do that while using the pinky to fret the 10th fret of the G string. Watch Jonny play the solo to see what I mean. Now, fret the 7th fret of the D string with your index finger. At this point you can put your thumb back over the neck like your normally would. Now take your index finger and move it to the 5th fret of the G string. Now, fret the 7th fret of the D string with your ring finger. Now, fret the 7th fret of the G string with your ring finger. You'll notice that your fingers are now all on the same string. Now, after playing that note, lift your fingers off of the fretboard (but keep them in the same shape!) and don't fret anything. Move your index, middle, and ring finger over to the 7th, 8th, and 9th fret of the G string. While you're doing all that, simply strike the open note of the G string. Do this as soon as you lift your fingers off of the G string. Since you're in Drop C#, the open note of the G string will get you the note you need for the solo. Repeat as many times as you hear in the song. Before the main riff, Jonny cuts the first half of the solo short. He stops with his ring finger on the 7th fret of the D string. After that, play the main riff. Jonny starts the second half of the solo with his pinky on the 10th fret of the G string. Play as many times as need after, then cut it short again at the 7th fret of the D string to play the main riff again.
After that, play the prechorus, then the chorus. Listen to the song and watch live performances to see what I mean. This will help your accuracy. Watch them perform Violet Hill in Austin City Limits and you'll get a nice view of the solo. Good luck.
