Biss i would like to see your reaction to Rammstein song called Du Hast , my 2nd favorite song from their golden collectrion
It is a bit ironic...these guys came from East Berlin and lived under Russian oppression until 1991, and it was Ronald Reagan and America that were huge variables in bringing down the wall and the USSR. What is great is that Rammstein is able to criticize America and the west...I bet they didn't sing many songs criticizing East Germany or the USSR (understanding that they didn't exist at that time...probably wouldn't have been allowed to exist). And I bet they certainly enjoy the US dollars their albums are making. I personally think this is awesome. I have no problem with their criticism of the US, and our 'we are better than you' attitude. That's what the lyrics early on about '...leading' when dancing. The US does have a way of trying to force our beliefs on others around the world, because we think our way is best. I love these guys, and think Til Lindemann is brilliant.
I agree, with most of what you wrote, but I have to say their song and video of "Deutschland" is a very critical view on their love and hate relationship towards their own country. As a Rammstein fan you certainly know, one of my favorite songs from them, "Stein um Stein" It describes in a metaphorical way, how the feeling of "life" was, in former east Germany. Or "Radio", the communist GDR regime could put you in jail , if they caught you, hearing music from the west. That video describes it, in a perfect way! That's Rammstein, they're never afraid to speak about very controversial things! That's the main reason why I love them!
@@romanknetsch1035 yeah, you're exactly right, and it's why I love them as well. They aren't shy, especially Til. I love his side project "Lindemann" as well, because he and Peter Tagtgren are willing to talk about things other bands aren't. They love their freedom of speech, as do I. I don't believe in censorship of any kind, and the more offensive, the better...not necessarily offensive to me, but to society in general. I wish there were more bands like them, and more artists like Til!
@@genekent2391 I am so thankful that there are now US americans, with a healthy, open minded attitude. I was brought up with US american GI'S and a lot of them couldn't stand the slightest critical word against their country. We all know, if we use our brain, that in every country there are some flaws. That's ok, as long as you work on those flaws to make it better. But a lot of US Citizens have a talent to stay blind to their problems. So they see no need to better things. Instead they continue, to pray their mantra, "... THAT WE LIVE IN THE BEST COUNTRY OF THE WORLD..." But YOU, seems to be different, I really appreciate that! It gives me hope! We are living nowadays in a global world. What affects a big country will now affect the whole planet 🌏! We should always work together. I love Lindemanns side project, too! Even more radical, shocking and provoking! 👊

You are right with the culture war. "Vor Paris steht Mickey Maus" is a reference to war. It is discribing the front lines. Example. "Der Russe steht schon vor Berlin" has the meaning that the Russian Army set the front line already in the edge of Berlin. So Mickey Mouse in front of Paris means that there is a cultural frontline the US put their with Disneyland.

Then those scientists going onto NASA to put a man on the moon. As with many Rammstein songs a little bit of a sarcastic ironic humour with a bite of truth.
and i think it goes even further, it also talks about "softpower" and military power, the US "is always taking democracy around the world" (sometimes War). As also in the part where "Wenn getanzt wird will ich führen" talks about the control of the USA over other countries, later he complements saying that the music comes from the white house, therefore they control how they "dance" and what they should "dance"
When this song came out we were in the post "Mission Accomplished" phase of Iraq going into a presidential election that almost saw Bush replaced.. he made it through by the slim margin of a few hanging chads... it's a thing. A lot of Americans were right there with Rammstein on this one, great song.
Biss you did a lovely job of explaining your take on the song...no problems with you or the song...yes I think the song is a sharp and nuanced take on the influence of America....not all bad but too influential in some ways.
I don't think the song is meant to be a reflection, more to poke fun at how the US of A influences and affects most countries. I don't think it is in mean spirit, though. They're just having fun. They also have a song about their own country, Deutschland, that seems to me more a reflection to the good and bad of their country than this one.
I'm From the US and this song is spot on correct. Corporate greed and hypocritical people in charge are responsible, not the citizens. Don't ever be afraid to speak your mind. If you're wrong learn from it but you never know unless you speak out.
I wouldn't take this with any negativity from you as my 2nd favorite Romanian. Number one has been dead for centuries, so that makes you the breathing number one. Rammstein didn't question anything many Americans haven't. I have learned to appreciate those whom i don't always agree with. It just causes you to look at subjects with a different perspective. That's healthy. Love Rammstein, and would love to see them live someday. They get my blood moving. Keep on rockin' Bisscute, without any reservations. 🤘🏻

In the end, as I always say... don't play down how well you speak German, your understanding of our crazy language is very good! Greetings, and keep on going :)
Well, a lot of americans know well the thing that Rammstein say in this song, they say this in a lot of american songs, too (like This is America). One of their bests. PS: love you t shirt 😁
Bliss, keep doing what you’re doing,as a red blooded American I want to let you know that criticism of government, corporations each other is a cornerstone of what the country was founded on,if somebody doesn’t like to see a Starbucks in Inner Mongolia we get it-Rock on
This song was written basically as an indictment of the American government with the war in Iraq. Basically they were basically stating that that war was basically America was looking to "Americanize" the entire world. As an American, I can see their point, and can agree with many aspects of what they're saying.
I think Rammstein is loved by so many people, because if you want to you can dive deep into their lyrics. Offending or blaming is not the aim of this band, but to selfreflect. For example Deutschland was loved and also hated in Germany from the left to the right parties. I think what they like to do is to provoke and make you think about what the lyrics might tell you. But on the other hand, if you do not know the lyrics its fantasic music and of course their stage performances are unbeaten in my opinion. A good example is "Dicke Titten", if you only hear the song without seeing the video its a perfect what I would name "Ballermann-song" / "springbreak-song" but with the lyrics and the video it goes deeper. Songs of Rammstein I would suggest: Dicke Titte, Angst, the piano version of "Mein Herz brennt", Radio, and so on. And to US Americans I don´t think that "America" was intended to offend you, but to give you the oportunity to selfreflect what you are doing and want to do as the "Leader of the western, democratic world".
So refreshing to see a reactor who actually knows german. Reacting to this song being ignorant to the lyrics, is like appreciating a chocklate by only eating the paper, throwing the content away. IMO this is one of Rammsteins best movies, with the hard hitting lyrics and awesome sound. Personally, however, as a Norwegian, I prefere to dance the US-dance to the Russian dance...
Great one! You nailed the meaning Biss, I just think it's not ONLY a critic to what America forced on the world but also a critic to the rest of the world for embracing a lot of other things that weren't forced : Who doesn't love a Big MaC, Cola and a Hollywood blockbuster? I'm from Portugal an I love it! The song pokes fun at America, but the line "We are all living in America" seems more like a self critic to all non-Americans. We are guilty of it, forced or not, we embraced the good and the bad. Ironically this was a huge hit in America and also in the world but Rammstein don't seem so fond of it, after the tour where they launched it, they don't play it that often live. Oh and yeah, the overall theme of the video is about the moon landing being an hoax produced in a studio in Hollywood. Great reaction!
Coming into this late as I just discovered your reaction videos...and love Rammstein as much as you do. You interpretation is right on point as what they are saying. In the 60's and 70's Americanization of the world by corporate America was a big deal. And an embarrassment to anyone that's ever lived in a country other than the US. (I lived in Germany a few years) Today though there is a higher-level corporate influence trying to influence the world into poverty so the rich and entitled will rule uber alles. But that is another story that we can just hope Rammstein writes a song about. Wishing you well. Peace 🙂
It was this country that started a lot of wars, including the war between Russia and Ukraine. Well done, Raimstein. They raised this topic a long time ago. The crown of the “great country” has been shaken
I get your point of trying not to offend american people, but this song just spoke truth. Coca cola, sometimes war, is like a legacy of USA. The only people that not see it is the american people. I'm chilean, and your country provoke a dictatorship in my country. You have to speak the truth about the countries, no matter what.
This song is how America spreads its cultural influence on other countries…and I agree, America shouldn’t be doing that. Let other countries, be, let them be who they are, without America pushing their culture on everyone. Im from Texas and am a Native American (Apache/Cherokee/Navajo)….and they forced my grandparents to not speak our languages. I love my country, but its not perfect, but I also cant dwell on the past, I need to move forward, but we as a country shouldn’t be pushing our culture on others. I LOVE Rammstein, and love bands who sing in their native language.
Early in the song they clearly borrowed from "America" in West Side Story, which gives a 1961 view of racism and classism in the US viewed though a Puerto Rican lens: ruclips.net/video/ogwR6L43KVw/видео.html Around 2019 I asked on of my classes (mostly 20 or so year old Americans, but also a mix of middle eastern, African, and Asian students) if any of them actually remembered a time that the US was not at war. Nobody said yes. Mostly the criticisms in the song seemed fair, and if Americans are angered by the song I would suggest that they should react with thought and discussion, not simply emotion.
This song is absolutely meant to offend, its not their only song about America being ignorant and trying to police and lead the whole world through capitalism while being rotten to the core and being built on attrocities. Its trying to show people thats its not ok what theyre doing and it has only gotten worse since then.
I would not say that this is one of the most hated ones but rather one of the most misinterpreted. The song was Rammstein's response to American intervention in Iraq - a skillfully sarcastic response. Like they said in the lyrics "this is not a love song". America influences the world but from the position of power - cultural power (low-quality mass culture), economic power (corporations) and military power (interventions in other countries, usually when it's profitable for US).
Don't worry Biss. Most Americans are fine with this. I'm not offended in any way. Americans need to know thee things. I know some people don't like having our problems pointed out but I don't think those people would be listening to Rammstein in the first place. Also more Rammstein whenever you think about it. Thanks
@@BisscuteReacts Well, both refrains are full of patriotism and pride, but inside its an accuse on the American way of life. Poverty, consumption and world domination. Like in Bobby Brown from Zappa no one recognizes the verse and the dark meaning behind.
It's an amazing video that shows both how America thinks the rest of the world sees it while the lyrics tell how the rest of the world *actually* sees it.
I would wager that most of your american viewers share rammstein's critiques of american consumerism and cultural imperialism. Don't apologize, you nailed it. There are certainly simple-minded americans who refuse to be critical of their nation, but they are incapable of critical thought, and therefore not worthy of time or debate.
You hit it right on the head! This is Rammstein's take on how American culture is influencing the rest of the world and its not one of approval. I am an American and am not offended at all, and completely agree with their position.
Looking over what you've done by Rammstein, it looks like you haven't done "Engel", and in particular the live version from Madison Square Garden. The song is really cool and the live show is jaw-dropping.
You should also consider the context of the time in which the video was created. That was the time when America started the Iraq war. And countries like Germany or France were not convinced by the presented "evidence" for weapons of mass destruction etc. and saw no basis for starting a war. President Bush at the time did not like that at all and said that anyone who is not with America is against America. So relations were strained at that time. Of course, this criticism does not mean that Rammstein does not like America. And and I think Americans shouldn't take that too personally or feel offended by it.
The last time they were here Till was crying on stage. Look at it. He either has changed or always loved America. You tell me. Nurnberg 82. 83. We love
Rammstein recorded their firsr demos that eventually became anthems under their sheets in east germany. They were teenagers when the stasi had incredible power. Ps. Im a patreon...any chance of "whats eating gilbert grape"? I dont think you will like it ao maybe "this boys life" leonado di caprio and robert di niro. Keep being you. X
Biss, your interpretation is spot on, & it's a valid critique. While I can't tell if they're poking fun at the "fake moon landing" conspiracy or promoting it, I hope they're mocking it. In any event, Biss, I don't think you need to dance around it so much; anyone offended is exactly the sort who wants to overwrite other cultures instead of exploring the uniqueness each one offers.
Come on, Biss, don't be shy about the subtext. The guys from Rammstein showed in the video the truth that American narratives dominate everywhere, all over the world, including in the military-political sphere. I understand your embarrassment, in Eastern Europe, Americans are viewed as saviors from communism, and their public criticism is seen as a sign of bad taste and a challenge to the entire post-Soviet system of values. This is understandable. You are very cool, I will continue to enjoy your reactions❤
Sadly America is being made communist, and taking the rest of the Western world with it. Most people are unaware because they don't know that communism, like a virus, evolves itself to better attack a new host. This stuff gets exactly zero traction in Eastern Europe from what I can see, I think you guys instinctively know it for what it is.
I love the song but I think its hilarious that Germans would be upset about about American culture being spread worldwide like they weren't trying to do the exact same thing lol
As an American, I'm not at all offended by Rammstein giving us a hard time about things. As someone who's read a bit of history, it's not lost on me that there have been millions of people who have immigrated to America from German-speaking nations, and those people went on to help create what has become American culture. The biggest thing to smile about, of course, is their significant use of the Apollo missions in their video, and who was it who was the principal rocket engineer for the program? Wernher Von Braun, a German of V-2 rocket fame, we brought to America after WWII through Operation Paperclip. In this way, they're also making fun of themselves, which shows just how talented they are to have so many different meanings in their art. They are an incredible band, extremely talented, and if they make fun of us for being so culturally influential, it's all good. We know we are. I just hope that more of the positive influences have been embraced than the negative ones.
3:01 The French sent the Statue Of Liberty to Amerika (in 1885.), they got a statue of Mickey Mouse in Paris in return (1992.). I don't think they were singing about Euro Disney It's kinda comedic, in a sense. Also you are one of the few reactees to notice the man in the Nike's praying in front of an Oil field.

The song actually is a reference to operation paperclip, german scientists being taken to America and being given full citizenship, and then going onto NASA to put a man on the moon. It's a tongue in cheek song about the weird commercialisation of american consumer culture and Nasa being run by ex german war criminals.
it’s a parody of American globalization. America is forcing itself on everyone etc etc. love this song.
IKR How dare we create stable supply chains on the seas and secure Western Europe, Southeastern Asia, North Africa, and the Middle-East against global fucktardery for your own benefit?
Awesome reaction. Great analyses and I agree with your view on the lyrics. And besides that it is also just a fantastic song. Thank you. ~ Vals
After Du Hast, this is probably my 2nd favorite Rammstein song. So easy to sing along to. I also recommend Feuer Frei, Mutter, Moskau, and Reise Reise. Great reaction Biss and looking forward to more Rammstein!! ❤🤘
Dicke Titten?
Rammstein has too many great songs to really have a single favorite, but. Moskau and Reise Reise are definitely up there, one of their most under rated songs in my opinion is Wo Bist Du.
@@kwantoon I completely agree. So many great songs.
@@kwantoon Reise Reise is just so dang catchy. Up there on my list is Los because of much fun they have playing with language poetically. Zie sind gott.....los.
I love your faces all acroos the song 😆I almos could hear your head thinking "oh my gosh this is gonna get me in trouble" but people who undestand Rammtein understand that there are both sides od the coin here and take it with a grain of salt. Just for you to know they play it in New York and everyone love it.
Nice to see you back with Rammstein 😍
The mockery is both funny and honest, so no American worth thinking about would have a problem with it.
I laughed watching you sweat this interpretation!
We all have opinions and america has influenced every corner of the world. I found a Coca-Cola seller in the middle of the jungle where almost nobody walked.
Much Love to You and Ukraine
💙💛💙🌻🌻🌻
I’m American and I love this song it’s on point. America isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Same here. This song is perfect.
indeed
I love it when you go wild on Rammstein! So I'm really glad to hear you gonna react to more of them! I also hope you will follow the recommendation I did after your las Rammstein Reaktion! 😅
Good reaction!
Rammstein is like ogres (or onions) - layers after layers ;)
Btw, nice shirt!
I'm American and no one else's opinion of us ever offends me. Nice review and I don't speak German but great song.
My musical journey of Rammstein started years ago with this iconic song and i still loved it to this very day , such a cool band over the years , i love it how Rammstein are mixing two diffrent populations in this music video , brilliant effects.
Coca-Cola, sometimes war - best line ever
Props for taking this on. Usually I will listen to the song without the music video. Then watch the music video. Then read the lyrics while listening to the song again. And finally read the lyrics on my own without the music before I try to digest and analyse said music. (Aka only then start to research history, if need be)
Don't worry Biss you are always have shown respect. Hater are everyware and it's you're channel you do what you think it's the best. Much love from 🇮🇹🇧🇪❤️
I don't speak German, but the video makes the point very clear.
Cigeretes name is "Lucky Strike" - same name is for war rockets.
I listened with no hate. They created and showed their option of American way. It is ok with me. Oh! I am American. 😀
No, it's only about Disneyland Paris
@@ChrisTian-rm7zm Yes ... those are not mutually exclusive. Disneyland Paris is the frontline being referred to.
this is the best rammstein ive heard yet! i agree about that "middle eight" bit, it rocked extra hard!! i feel like theres some bits you didnt want to translate lol
The song actually is a reference to operation paperclip, German scientists being taken to America after the fall of the Third Reich and being given full American citizenship. Then those scientists going onto NASA to put a man on the moon. It's a tongue in cheek song about the weird commercialisation of American consumer culture and the popular belief that Nasa at one point was being run by ex German war criminals.
Nya eu amo esse clip, tem que ser visto e analizado quadro a quadro, simplesmente um protesto incrível, obrigada Biss-sama por reagir a isso*--*
7:14 Love "Sure that SOMETIMES?" face 🤣
When this song came out we were in the post "Mission Accomplished" phase of Iraq going into a presidential election that almost saw Bush replaced.. he made it through by the slim margin of a few hanging chads... it's a thing. A lot of Americans were right there with Rammstein on this one, great song.
Your reaction is the best, as always ;)
Hi Biss, your words & thoughts are just that...Yours....no harm no foul & another gr8t reaction by you & on to the next1....Have a gr8t weekend....
Deutschland is an awesome Rammstein song too and the video for it is excellent.
You have the Rolling "R" too👍🤘🤘 im loving it. Beside love your videos 🙏🍀💥✌
I'm From the US and this song is spot on correct. Corporate greed and hypocritical people in charge are responsible, not the citizens. Don't ever be afraid to speak your mind. If you're wrong learn from it but you never know unless you speak out.
You're a born Ambassador😂, sooo cute😊. Much Love to you❤
I wouldn't take this with any negativity from you as my 2nd favorite Romanian. 🤘🏻
Of course no one has ever been to the moon. This is the message.
As always, a very nice reaction and perfect breakdown and interpretation! Don't be shy with your thoughts, people who know Rammstein love them for being direct and for starting discussions and maybe being controversial. In the end, as I always say... don't play down how well you speak German, your understanding of our crazy language is very good! Greetings, and keep on going :)
This was one of the songs I hoped they played when I saw em in Philly lol
Этому клипу много лет, а все отсылки и тексты до сих пор актуальны и правдивы
Аминь, брат
Хуль ты забыла в американском интернете? пиздуй лапти вяжи
Especially the part "....Coca Cola sometimes WAR..."
The educatedmarine and the Bucksttabu channel has videos with English subtitles.
Why not dance your own? Does someone limit you in choosing a dance or with whom to be friends and with whom to trade? Oh, wait...
Yeah me too. Great video and commentary.
Well said.
Our culture became world culture through the internet. I find it wunderbar.
This isn't my first Rammstein song, but it is the one that made me fall in love with them.
Peace 🙂

This is not a Lovesong by Public Image Ltd.
Your comment deserves a "like", only a few people remember this song nowadays 😉
Early in the song they clearly borrowed from "America" in West Side Story, which gives a 1961 view of racism and classism in the US viewed though a Puerto Rican lens: ruclips.net/video/ogwR6L43KVw/видео.html
Around 2019 I asked on of my classes (mostly 20 or so year old Americans, but also a mix of middle eastern, African, and Asian students) if any of them actually remembered a time that the US was not at war.
Just the fact you had the expressed your view has won me over to your site and btw I now have to recommend your channel.
The video is such a hoot. How about some Die Ärzte next? :)
A Nuance that most non native (and even some native) german speakers usually do not get:
"Vor Paris steht Micky Maus"
Rommel also stood before Paris.
Don't worry Biss. Most Americans are fine with this. I'm not offended in any way. Americans need to know thee things. I know some people don't like having our problems pointed out but I don't think those people would be listening to Rammstein in the first place. Also more Rammstein whenever you think about it. Thanks
Great reaction. They always want to poke the bear a little bit. 😉
In some parts I think it´s a hommage to Springsteens Born in the USA.
Oh ? ❤️
You are wearing Jinjer - Sunflower -shirt! Love it! 👍👍👍 😊
Nurnberg 82. 83. We love
Why was he crying on stage?
@@consterus loved and was touched by the crowd in LA. Check it out. I don't think he hates America, he drinks cola too. If you live in Germany

No need to be so polite with truth. Who do not like it is cause is part of it... Bless
Best tish ever......and love the "Rrrrrrrs"
There is a urban legend claiming that the moon landing was fake and yes "We're all livin' in Amerika" Good tune tho.
They just speaking facts ;)
Read the lyrics. German / English. Available on Google / youtube.
3:01 The French sent the Statue Of Liberty to Amerika (in 1885.), they got a statue of Mickey Mouse in Paris in return (1992.). I don't think they were singing about Euro Disney It's kinda comedic, in a sense.
