- It is the evening of October 14th, 2022 and WMSR ex C&O 2-6-6-2 # 1309 is about to make a special extra run. For this night run, Western Maryland Scenic Railroad would be fitting the beast with the whistle from PRR K4 class 4-6-2 # 1361 the Spirit of Altoona in an effort to create a fundraising event for the 1361’s restoration on behalf of Railroaders Memorial Museum and the Friends of the 1361. Join us as we catch 1309 at Cumberland Station, Trimble Road and Frostburg

Hearing the voice of the spirit of Altoona for the first time, since the 1980s is a real teaser to what’s to come when the 1361 will steam again with an all new train to pull behind her I have a family connection to that locomotive my great great great great grandfather was an engineer for the Pennsylvania railroad and that was one of the locomotives. He drove back in the day. I have two artifacts from him, his original PRR rule book and his railroad pocket wash unfortunately, it no longer works, but rarity does run in my family off on my mom side and my dad side my grandfather worked for the Santa Fe RailRoads Shops in Cleburne Texas but that’s another story
Yes it is
love that PRR Whistle.
Beautiful opening shot!
1361’s Pennsy 3-chime is the most unusual I’ve heard. I don’t know what it is or what might be wrong that’s making it sound different from a typical PRR 3-chime.
That was probably due to 1309's boiler pressure being 210 psi, compared to 1361's 205 psi.
1361’s voice can be heard again!
I thought they were using the PRR T1’s whistle!
@Skye Kyra they were earlier on in the year, but this is the 1361’s used just for a special event
@@RavennaRailfan4070 thanks for letting me know!
1361: I’ll be back!
C&o 1309 had a prr k4 1361 whistle for the benefit of the 1361 restoration fundraiser excursion
That’s exactly what this video is about…
Sounds like LIRR 39
It’s 1361’s whistle. Besides 39’s whistle sounds slightly different than 1361’s actually.
