On August 12, 2024 Norfolk Southern 955 the Office Car Special was heading west down the NS Cleveland Line. I caught up to it at Hudson, Ohio and watched it past the old wye. 5/9/2024 finds legendary CSX engineer Mr. Chris Ratini making his final run before retirement on CSX W015-09 at Salt Springs Rd near Lordstown, Ohio. Over the years I’ve caught many of Chris’ trains and enjoyed his hornshows and friendliness. Congratulations Chris, enjoy retirement and thank you for all the memories!

If only the Erie was still in place from JO to the west end of Shelly Materials. Since most of these trains run between the stone facility along CSX in South Akron and this facility in Kent, seems like it would be a lot more efficient to just run them up the Erie instead of the trip through Mogadore and then tying up both the W&LE and ABC lines in Kent while switching cars around.
This is K165, an empty Eddystone oil train which usually has BNSF power

What happened to steam in the valley I can’t help but notice that we haven’t seen that this year or last
@@TexasRailfan21-RailfanRyan Steam in the valley hasn’t taken place because of a number of erosion spots on the north part of the line. Cvsr can move equipment over the whole railroad, but isn’t currently allowed to take passengers north of peninsula until those are fixed. The steam locomotive normally used is from out of state so not worth it to either group until the entire railroad is open to passengers again (hopefully early next year)
It’s also kinda unknown atm if 765 will ever come back seeing that the FWRHS has a multi year contract to run 765 on the Indians Northeastern which runs in Indiana, alongside parts of Ohio and Michigan.

@@ShawnCalay Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad which runs beneath Independence and Akron, Ohio through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park along former B&O tracks. The test run took place between Boston Mills station and the railroads’ headquarters Fitzwater Maintenance Yard

While 765 definitely has a great home on the Indiana Northeastern, it is a shame she'll never visit the CVSR again :(

Very great to see the 6773 back in operation even better to see an MLW FPA4 with a Canadian M3H horn mounted on it by far my most favorite Canadian horn of all time especially on this locomotive

@@nicholasresar as I understand this is just a temporary paint scheme. While I think the normal paint is a better tribute to their CN heritage, I don’t mind the variety. Certainly a unique look
I think this might be her permanent paint scheme. I just caught 6777 and 6773 last night. The 77 on the north end and the 73 on the south end. Numbering lettering and everything else has been applied to her so it’s safe to say that this is her permanent paint scheme.
@@maxm4375 Also could be just a transitional paint scheme and they will gradually make it match Though it should be noted the red is brighter, more to the liking of the red on 365 and 4241, and doesn’t match 6771 and 6777

@@NS_0314 not at this time. They acquired one A & B set of FPA4s from Grand Canyon (GCRY) and I hear they may be interested in GCRY’s other set
@@RavennaRailfan4070 Yeah I heard it was two FPA-4s and another B unit. I hope they also look at the Napa Valley units, such as their RS11 (to replace 1822)
My special needs son really likes Alco's like those 2 he remembers seeing 6773 operating on the Grand Canyon Railway in Williams Arizona and is a little sad 😥 that it is not operating there anymore but is glad it has found a new place to work.
