- Flint City Councilman Eric Mays, 1st Ward, addresses criticisms during a town hall meeting on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020 for performing the Nazi salute and comparing Council President Monica Galloway to Adolf Hitler at the Jan. 13 general council meeting.

People trying to get him on anything, but did nothing to Kate Fields who stuck her middle finger up and said f you in a professional public meeting being filmed. No one told her to apology. If Mays did it to her all the women would be outraged saying he’s sexist, how dare you say that to a woman. Punish everyone equally. Whether you like Mays or not, don’t forget the wrongs of others on that council, make them accountable too.

I live in NYC and boy do I wish I could vote for him.
I've heard from people in his district that he takes care of his constituents. So I have to respect that.
In my 35 years in business, l have been on boards, committees, projects…and early on. I was fortunate enough to have had a mentor early on who gave me a piece of advice I never forgot:
He said, “Even if you are 100% correct, supported by incontrovertible evidence, laws, policies and procedures, if people think you are a nutcase, they won’t want to hear it.”
Expanding on that, the real goal is to build consensus, build bridges get everyone on board with you. And I’m sorry to say, even when he is plainly correct, Mr. Mays is living proof and testimony that my mentor was right on the money. He is passionate, he is bright, he is probably correct…but his approach does not sway people.And THAT, makes him ineffective as a leader. The argument becomes about him, and not the subject at hand.
