Decluttering can feel overwhelming. Decluttering can become easy when you break it down into smaller areas. HAPPY DECLUTTERING!
Getting rid of stuff feels really good!
Sometimes it can feel like a cleaning of the spirit.
Oooo I have one more…..HOLIDAY decor!! Go through those bins!!! Only keep what you actually put out every year; your most special items, and get RID of all else. Honestly! It feels so nice to just put out those few special things; and really appreciate them each year. ♥️
Fantastic Tip!!!
We dont decorate at holidays- brought a few items for Halloween until realised it was a SCAM.
We don't have a toaster/ ironing board for years. We never extended our home- we don't have lavish birthdays either- happier with simple things.
I have my 6 A3 sketchbooks from college and unl- perhaps I can choose my fav and can be taken care of
Just decluttered old Makeup, shoes and old magazines. Thanks 😊 for the incentive reminders!! ;)
So encouraging Connie!!!must be springfever!!!need to declutter again!!!xxxooo
I’m overwhelmed listing to what I have got .. made me want to go do it now ..can’t wait to live the good life..
Thanks for showing me many items I can get rid of. Declutter is tough for me but would follow your way.
I love your videos after watching your video on de cluttering I've managed to de clutter my living room, kitchen, hallway, closet all in 2 days. My home is now so much easier to clean just left to do are my sons bedroom now that can be a challenge bathroom and my bedroom I feel so much better now Thankyou for sharing your videos. 😀 xx
I went through a similar list in my decluttering process this year. Makeup, nail polishes and books were the most challenging for me.
Thank you, from one that feels like the opposite. Just sitting and unpacking a bagpack for my biketrip.. I have donated lotsa stuff, but there is so much left. I just moved from a house and a relationship, into half the size appartement. And found out that most of the nicks and nacks in the house were mine..
Thank you so much for this video. I'm gonna go through my things just like you show here.❤❤ have a lovely day
This is so important! We sometimes accumulate so many things!!! This is essential. Thank you for sharing
So true! Thanks for sharing your input.

I’m new here. But already loving your channel. I love your simplicity, the tone of your voice, the contents. Congratulations!!!! Love from Portugal 🇵🇹
Oh, thanks so much, Maria! Portugal is on the top of list for when we travel again.
Love the socks!
I have moved often during my adult life so this has kept my personal stuff minimal. I was still over whealmed every time I moved. 2018 dealt me a double loss. My Mother and brother passed within a couple months of each other. I suddenly become in charge of their belongings. Anxiety has been off the chain. This year I am finally emotionally ready to dispose of their things. Lol my brother loved to collect. We both have a Christmas decoration compulsion. Truth...I have an obsession for coats, shoes and purses🙄😆!!! Slowly I am eliminating 90% of everything all three of us own/owned. All of that environmental noise really disturbs my joy.
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like you have taken time to go through their belongings. It's wonderful that you are both honoring their memories and your spirit.
Sending you happiness and peace.
@@ConnieRiet thank you so much!!
Great information. We are trying to declutter our old files storage room - it could be a nice break room...
Glad it was helpful!
I love your minimalism videos! I am trying to get my husband on board but he is protesting… lol
Growing up, my mom always had" science experiments" in the fridge,It was a running joke between my sister and I. My problem is that I often buy things that I need, then regret my choices.I often walk around a store with something in the cart, then leave it there. At least that prevents me from having to get rid of it a week later. I live in a tiny house, so the clutter gets bad really easily.
e onset of the pandemic, I had started decluttering, Giving away things that are no longer needed or bartering some of them for food. Yes, it is overwhelming. Giving away those old toys [25 years old already] made me cry. Yes, it is only material things. We had made other kids happy.
Hi Robby, Thanks for sharing your story. It can feel emotional to part with sentimental objects. Your kids live in your heart... always and forever.
I am your 60th Fan :)
YEAH! Thanks so much for watching.
I absolutely love the detailed lists that are both expansive but utterly practice and realistic. I could go on for days about the obstacles in my 7 person household, but instead will tell you my gross story! I had noticed a few pantry moths from time to time... I make a lot from scratch and have bulk barn supplies crammed in my pantry. It was summer time and hadn't done that much cooking in about a week (hard to remember timelines as this was a bit ago. My son's friend was over one day and he went into the pantry to grab something and asked me to come look. There were "worms" crawling all over the walls. Like lots of them. I was beyond horrified, disgusted and embarrassed all at the same time! I began pulling out bins and realized they had infested my flours and grains in secure, lids on containers and mason jars??? How they got in I'll never know- might have been in from purchase or we're out in the country so who knows? I threw out most everything and Dr Bronner'd/essential oil'd the heck of every shelf and reduced the amount of stuff I replaced it with. I have non toxic sticky traps in there now-try to keep it reasonably sized and am very vigilant. The tendency to need a little bit of everything for any and all meal contingencies- lol. It's hard to re-calibrate our "go to for as long as you can remember tendencies". Work in progress here- haha.
I also buy most of my pantry items in bulk and I always throw the bags (reusable) in the freezer for 24 hours when I get home with them. This should kill any larvae or moths in the products before I decant them into their containers. Hope this helps. 🤗
aussiedevildk - I just recently heard the same trick around throwing the bags in the freezer from a homesteader channel. Thanks so much-I'll definitely give it a try. It breaks my heart/ spirit to waste food like that. Take care in these crazy times.
Hi! Thank you so much for sharing your story with us! I can imagine how devastating that must of been. As a child, my mother cooked from scratch for a family of 8. She would have HUGE bins of staples (rice, flour, sugar). One morning she went to make bread and the four was infested with worms. It was pretty gross. I'll never forget it.
Happiness & Peace
@@ConnieRiet Also keep bay leaves placed on shelves. Moths do not like them.
Great advice! How about art ( paintings)? I find this section very challenging.
If you love art and it brings you joy, keep it. Beauty makes our hearts sing.
Decluttering is very therapeutic. I can't dobit with my guitars though haha apart from that I can let go of anything.
It's important to keep the things that bring you joy and value to your life. I love the guitar, I only wish I was more skilled at playing it.
Its not just terapeutic , its my addiction😂. Ive been living like this for 4 years, still find something to decluttere.
Have purged most of your categories, but have to be in the right state of mind, and the sentimental things will stall me😮
Hi Judy, That's amazing! Way to go! Sentimental things are always a sticking point. Honor where you are at. If your heart is breaking at the thought of giving something away....then don't. but , if you can't remember who gave an item to you or why you have it. Donate!
I've done one room at a time for older neighbors.
My mom gets so mad if you even mentioned tossing expired food or medicines. “That’s my good cream!” So good that you it expired in 1985 and you still have some. 🤦🏼♀️
🖐🏼🙂
The container that has so much mold, there's no way you can possibly tell what it is. I'm rather short and can never reach the back of the top shelf. Most of these I can do, however, papers have been the Bain of my existence for years. As soon as I work on a pile, another pile builds up (not to mention I have two granddaughters with me who have tons of school papers too).
Great video! I would suggest trying to gift your things instead just donating all to charity. Charity is a good option, but they are often overwhelmed with our stuff. Sometimes they throw away great things because they just don’t have the space. Being part of Buy Nothing FB groups in your area can give you the opportunity to gift them to people who will actually use the things. Maybe even creating a Grp with family and friends where you share things you don’t need and maybe gift if someone wants it. I just gave my snowboards to my cousins who live closer to the mountains. I also will put things up for free on offer up. Even if someone takes your stuff to sell it later at least it’s helping them make a living and it’s not just sitting in your house with unfulfilled purpose.
Or researching the right charity like a women’s shelter for women’s and kids clothing, dog shelter for old blankets and towels or dog things, recovery center for adult clothing that can help them dress for church/outings/job interviews… and so on :)
Fantastic tip! Thanks so much for your input.
Speaking of gifting things - I got introduced to the idea of "shop in your own home".
wait, in the other videos more recent you said you were a minimalist for 13 or 14 years.
Did you change your definition partway?
I have been really enjoying your videos so much.
This one seems a bit different and its probably because its older. I was just curious about the time frames mentioned! thanks
Great question! I've been a minimalist t since 2008. So depending on when the video was made the year-to-date will vary.
Love this channel but this comment is completely off topic. I can't help but wonder why the framed mirror or artwork above the sofa is hung so high. Maybe I'm wrong because I can't see the size of the piece or the height of the ceiling. But I do think most homeowners appreciate design tips that could possibly improve the look or flow of a room...
Typically 8-10" between the back of the sofa and the bottom of the frame is the maximum distance that still ties the pieces together and visually connects the two.
Sincerely hoping to be helpful and looking forward to more of Connie's great decluttering advice.
Hi Heather, Thanks for the design tip! The ceilings are pretty high in the living room. When I'm standing in front of the mirror my face is centered. But, it is still probably too high :)
Guess your height is also a factor that should be considered 😉
Expired medications: Take it to a pharmacy for safe disposal. This service may vary by location but super easy to inquire the next time you’re at the pharmacy. (FYI: It’s available across Canada)
Also available in UK pharmacies.
Wonderful tip! Thank you so much for letting us know.
Yes, never, ever throw medication in the household bin! It ends up in the environment and damages badly flora and fauna, alas plants and animals that eat the plants
Well, these one pork chops one time....Frozen for awhile. Not sure if it was bad choice with the sauce or the “brownish” meat or a bit of both. 😅😅 It didn’t make anyone sick (wound up feeding to the cats ha ha), it just didn’t taste so good. 😅😅
One time we forgot to take out a lunchbox from my sons schoolbackpack over the summer. It was almost dirt again😵
I buy lettuce to have a salad. I throw it away after it has turned to brownish liquid.
For a month our home had become increasingly odiferous then I identified the cause of the smell. Hubby Carl buried a frozen turkey in a pail in the snowbank beside the cottage and it was feeding a colony of short-tailed shrews, a carnivorous mammal with a venomous bite and a musky, skunk-like odour. All my cleaning was in vain, but our dog Roady did kill four yesterday afternoon.
This is hard. I believe I’ve just realized I may have some OCD and hoarding tendencies.
Your tips are great, but recycle alot of your product's for example paper and plastic
I hope i already know then what minimalist is 🥺
Expired food story. Cleaning grandma’s fridge and there was an unopened mozzarella brick that was 8 years old. It was pure liquid. I asked permission to toss. She said no it’s not moldy. 😳
Well this story isn’t mine but here goes:- Ok many years ago a co-worker who rarely ate at home had some leftover lasagna in her fridge. One day a friend came to visit her whilst she was still at work (she left him a key) he was hungry so he looked in her fridge and found what he thought was ‘Fettuccine Bolognese’ 😬lmao Um he heated it up and ate it. The lasagna she had left in her fridge many months ago had literally broken up and gone green. 🤮
GROSS! That's a very entertaining story. Thanks for sharing.
Please don't toss prescription drugs. Take them to your police department or give them a call to find a disposable site. It's critical that they don't go into water table.
You are absolutely correct. Thank you so much for educating us on the proper way to dispose of medications. I'll be sure to specify that on future videos.
Pharmacy/drugstore will take back unused medicines and dispose of them appropriately.
Please donate towels, blankets to your local animal shelter pleased 🙏.
