Erik should examine tossing pairs of dice of different masses against a backwall with some backspin. There is a threshold mass for where Inertia overcomes the Elasticity of the layout and you get real x, y, z, variance. All it takes is a dice accelerator. ;)
It seems that Eric Verlinde is on the right track to explain the universe as an expanding entity without the need for a big bang, if he can show that it's missing entropy (as calculated from quantum mechanics) can be shown to be due to emergent gravity, and that the energy associated with it can eliminate the need for dark dark energy and that the accelerations associated with emerging gravity can eliminate the need for dark matter. If he does he can expect a Nobel prize in the future. It sounds like he's ahead of Sir Roger Penrose (anti-de sitter space) and Neil Turok in that they are still looking for something that will eliminate the need for the big bang. I wish him well and will be following the progress he and other physicists working in the same direction are making.

Verlinde calculates everything in spheres of symmetry, and there are no predictions for the non-spherical cases that occur primarily in space. The observed pink filaments and walls of dark matter are completely beyond the reach of Verlinde's gravity at this time. The second problem is the holographic principle itself, for which it is not at all clear whether it applies, and if so, where is the "magical" projection surface. It would be most logical to identify it with string world planes, but there is no evidence yet in favor of string theory
While Verlinde's theories on emergent gravity are indeed promising and aim to explain some phenomena attributed to dark matter and dark energy, they are still speculative and have not yet provided definitive answers. *Verlinde's work does not eliminate the need for the Big Bang,* which is well-supported by observational evidence. Instead, his ideas offer alternative perspectives on gravity and cosmic acceleration. It's important to follow ongoing research in this area, but as of now, these concepts are not yet proven or widely accepted as replacements for existing cosmological theories.
I got pretty hyped for emergent gravity a couple of years ago after seeing one of Erik's talks, and there's quite a few people working on similar stuff which is rather exciting, Sean Carroll seems to be heading in this direction

Sean Carroll's Mindscape show is really not bad! Very much a man of the moment, relating to the 2022 Nobel Prize and establishing Quantum Information Theory. Everytime I hear the word "reductionism" being mentioned in this show, I keep on snapping back to a bad dream, likening General Relativity to Mach's principle. Kind of discounting Special Relativity and the fact it's a central role that is well establish in formation of Quantum Field Theory, which is where Gravity and the Einstein field equations, Minkowski spacetime all point to gravity as an attributed force, rather than being a fundamental force all reach a combined state or form together as a singularity.

So perhaps you could derive 'dark matter' effects (on rotating galaxies for example) through fluid mechanics? (i.e. Euler's / Navier Stokes equations) or through them to derive something about the information density of the vacuum?
This theory I find one of most promising ones. Human observation capabilities are very very limited. It is like observing a shadow without being able to see its cause. Therefor basically it remains just a state of information.

As a non-scientist, I can't follow this. Which is not to diss it in any way. I think he's really onto something, and if you're an undergrad or grad physics student, it's probably amazing. I'd like to be able to grasp it somehow.
Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until somebody besides Verlinde explains it in a youtube meant for laypeople.
i think there was another video where he make a demonstration with polymer rubber showing that it behaves differently if hit hard on the ground or put slowly.
i think he was trying to show that same stuff will produce dark energy and gravity at the same time.

I think that he is referring to the fact that the total energy of the polymer changes, while the entropy stays consistent.

Erik, the Quantum Information you're referring to is generated by the GRAVITATIONAL QUANTUM COMPUTATION. But Quantum Information alone cannot cause Gravity to emerge from it. It needs to be three Quantum Mechanical X-Factors to cause Gravity to emerge from it. The Trinity "X-Factors" are: 1. Quantum Gravitation (that causes acceleration/force); 2. He describes it via the entropic principle and relates it to quantum entanglement, going further to state that it as playing a central role in emergence of classical spacetime eometry. Einstein, Podolsky and Rosen, showed entanglement as instantaneous. When we know the properties of ONE quantum state, we know the entire system of quantum states.
Any entangled particle in the same group, cannot be independent from a systems total state, product that comes from all particles are state dependent on each other, including when that same particle group is separated at extremely large distances, or cosmic scales.
Condensed-matter problems, in general, are neither relativistic nor conformal. Near a quantum critical point, both time and space may be scaling, but there has to be a preferred coordinate system and, usually, that is a lattice. This case and the condensed-matter 'problem' is overdetermined by experimental facts. @9:00 entropy does not cause these forces. Electromagnetism is causing the polymer to contract and thermal energy permits it to transition through a few energy barriers. Same with his "entropic gravity". He seems to have taken a few too many LSDs and really swallowed holism and emergence memes. It is not that these notions have no place in scientific explanations, but you have to be careful about what is fundamental and what truly is a more collective phenomenon that cannot be reduced to Hamiltonian time evolution. There are few such systems in nature, that are genuinely _strongly_ emergent, and perhaps only one known to us. (!)

@@mrhassell Your reference to Đàm Thanh Sơn and the AdS/CFT correspondence is not applicable to Erik Verlinde's work. Verlinde's theories on emergent gravity are distinct from the AdS/CFT framework used to describe the quark-gluon plasma. The AdS/CFT correspondence has provided insights into quantum chromodynamics, but it does not validate Verlinde's emergent gravity concepts. As of now, Verlinde's theories have not produced testable predictions that have been experimentally confirmed.
