Love the interview with Ray Manzarek, raising his hand, Here's your bass player. He was a freaking down to earth, cooler then hell, one hell of an organ playing wizard genius! Incredible debut album, one of the best in rock history, arguably.!
It sort of sounds like a bass. I thought Robbie was mimicking bass on the guitar but if that is Ray, WOW! It sounds just like a bass. Don't know how he plays the bass part and the main organ riffs simultaneosly. It sounds like two very independent separate parts. Very difficult to do. Ray must be a musical genius.
The Doors / Jim Morrison were the best band ever 👍🏻 It's a shame that JM died so early, but it was inevitable - he did drugs, drank uncontrollably & partied hard right up until the end. He would come on stage totally stoned & bombed but was still able to perform, how he remembered the lyrics is beyond me. RIP Jim.Morrison, your music will live on forever 👍🏼
Saw them in ‘68 at the Hollywood Bowl . In the box seats 2 down from us were Mick Jagger and friends. This concert was right after Waiting for the Sun came out. While Jim was rolling around the ground during The Unknown Soldier I looked over at Mick and he was laughing and pointing, with enjoyment and I believe respect. Still a very vivid memory for me. True story.
Wow! What a cool memory. Thanks for sharing. I often wondered what the Rolling Stones thought of Jim or the Door's music. I just listened to Morrison Hotel the whole way through yesterday and it still sounds great.
Great story Norman! Would've been something if they had captured Jagger's reaction on film. John Densmore said that Jim's girlfriend Pam Courson was next to Mick and sat in his lap at times, seemingly to get Morrison's attention.
God, I just saw this for the first time today. Just so extremely special. Thank you so much for posting. So much Music from this era simply lifted you up off the ground, mind body and soul, and took you on a very special trip. You close your eyes and transcend, if only for a moment, into a much more profound plane. Wow! I miss those days. Love and peace to all......
The best band from Los Angeles, Ca... OK I give the world's best and most original Rock and Roll band. I'm from Venice, Ca was a little young kid so I couldn't see them in concert. Yet all my baby sitters played the Doors over and over. Used to fall asleep hearing this from the other room feeling safe and secure and all was right in the world.

Ah, Ray, or "Sweet-Tooth Bob" as we used to call him ... I was his manicurist in 1978, we owned a bed n breakfast in South Dakota too , very humble man , he said to always grip it with both hands , words of wisdom from Sweet-Tooth BOB!! love him
The Doors were everything Huxley wrote about. They were the doorway from the 60’s to the 70’s. Jim was a poet. He lived in an aura. The very best live short lives because they sacrifice themselves. Ray was an incredible musician. I still miss him. The backbone of the band. John and Robby were just the best in their own right. The combination of the four is legend. Their timing was immaculate, not just in music but in the transition of an era. Some people say what if Jim had lived. The music they made in those four years was their lives. It was a gift to ours.
1969 R&R Revival .. Varsity Stadium , Toronto .. Doors opened with this .. Right after John Lennon & Eric Clapton finished their set .. Jim was so Smashed …but he killed it on stage! Incredible!!😵💫☺️👍
The Other Doors members were actually mad at Jim for his performance here. Not his singing but because he didn’t do anything other then just stand there with his eyes closed the whole time. But who really could blame him coming off the Miami concert. He always did the opposite of what was expected of him. That in itself is cool. I love The Doors and this performance is great still! I’m not sure which country you’re from . As far as I’m concerned you’re a brother in musical tastes!

Amazing performance of a perfect song! Ray’s keyboards are pitch perfect 👍, John drumming is spot on, Robby shredding throughout & Jim presiding over it all as the rock God that he is & always will be. Long live the Doors 🚪 the masters of mystical, magical music.

Midway through, that is ME!! .. backstage over Jim's left shoulder!!! My best friend went to school with Ric Lee, the drummer in Tens Years After, who also played this festival. We met a guy with a boat, got a $10 ride to the Isle of Wright, and hunted down Ric, who gave us passes early in the day .. everyone in nearby Freshwater, thought we were celebrities,.. free beer/food all day... best concert ever!!

Only saw them once in person, Chicago, summer of 1968 (they only had 2 albums out at the time), so yeah, they closed with "When the Music's Over.....", the lighting guy turns out the lights and they were still playing another 8 minutes or so....Great concert, tickets were like $4 bucks ?
50 years later and it makes me wonder did this really happen so long ago? It's like that dream you wake up from and wonder what was I dreaming of and can only remember certain details now.
How does one rock band pull all this off >>> Dreamy, dark, melodic, heavy, mesmerizing, spiritually moving, challenging to any hard rock band, sexy, the beautiful singing voice of a generation, brilliant compositions, extremely popular and equally troubling, music even more revealing on pot, just puts one in awe especially back in the great years of the 60s and 70s. The Doors were such talented musicians who played beautiful music. Morrison was a troubled soul but sang with such beauty in his voice. Lucky are those who felt this.
@Shaun Watson Sorry, not really. He was into alcohol and dabbled with LSD for a while but not in his recordings. He also smoked some pot but it was negligible, he gave it up in his last couple of years. His drinking, on the other hand, was legendary. But no amount of drugs or alcohol can produce talent and a beautiful voice.
I call Jim Morrison the Accidental Rockstar. He had much of the music material already except it was in the form of poems. Bumping into his former classmate Ray on the beach one day and Ray and Jim talked about his poems and Ray wanted to put it to music. Thus, THE DOORS.
I like the fact that they focus not only in Jim but in the others too. Sometimes, sadly, Morrison's shadow eclipses the figure of the other three: Robby, John and Ray. I think this version bring Justice to what The Doors actually was: a great team, a perfect work for four marvellous musicians.
León Cuba good point the whole band was excellent some fans and critics were too obsessed with the mystic and aesthetic of morrison in 67 68. it was once he got fatter and grew a beard in 69 that they kind if toned it down I think
Remember this was August 1970 and they were playing with Morrison’s ongoing Miami obscenity trial casting an ominous shadow over the band.... as Ray Manzarek put it “He sang for all he was worth, but moved nary a muscle. Dionysus had been shackled.” I assume this forced the film crew be a little more creative rather than just focusing on the antics of Mr. Mojo Risin.
Como envidio a cada persona presente en ese concierto.... el poder escuchar y ver en vivo a esta espectacular banda debe haber sido una experiencia única!

Crazy - been listening to The Doors for 55 years, and I just realized they had this consistently deep groove - without a bass player! Remarkable..
>without a bass player
holy shit, yeah
Love the interview with Ray Manzarek, raising his hand, Here's your bass
player. He was a freaking down to earth, cooler then hell, one hell of an
organ playing wizard genius! Incredible debut album, one of the best in
rock history, arguably.!
Ray Manzarek played the bass in the Doors. He had a fairly rare Rhodes bass keyboard and he was great on it.
@@Better_Call_Raul they only used a bass player in the studio.. not sure if it was for all albums or just some songs.
I Could Listen To This Song All Night !!! AWESOME !!!
True story.
My mom worked backstage for their show in Detroit! We have a framed picture of her and the lizard king in our living room
Imagine seeing Jim and Mick at the same time. I think id pass out
@@joedwyer8077 that's very accurate and Real...and Backstage Jim was very jealous and mad.
Me too. My first time. How have I missed this? I’m 74 so I think of this song with awesome memories
Ray is absolutely an Idol of me. He is the door to the music
Esto debería ser declarado Patrimonio histórico y cultural de la humanidad.

I like it how Jim just stands there and watches the others shine, while smoking a blunt... The Doors, the best... 👍😎
That’s a ciggy
Old Jim, wow, he is a great musician and great poet! Wonderful and the BEST!!!! The great band also.
At 74 and still listening to the unique sound of The Doors, with love from Cape Town South Africa 👍🙏❣️🇿🇦🎹🎤😻

This is one of the best versions of light my fire, also my hat off to Ramond Manzerik one of the best keyplayers of all time, Rip.Raymond
I knew Ray fairly well. Many meetings, phone calls, been to his house, etc. The SWEETEST most friendly man!....
I know ray too , I was his Gardner 78-99 , great guy if not troubled , was a sex addict …very sad..he couldn’t stop…

@@siggifreud812 I was the guys Gardner and also a close companion, we came close to sleeping together twice but both times I turned him down as I was married to a African American woman, the memories of him standing in the doorway half naked asking if I wanted to come in for some coffee , well man I’ll never forget that🙌
Ah, Ray, or "Sweet-Tooth Bob" as we used to call him ... I was his manicurist in 1978, we owned a bed n breakfast in South Dakota too , very humble man , he said to always grip it with both hands , words of wisdom from Sweet-Tooth BOB!! love him
They'll never be another band like the doors or Jim Morrison the music will be around for another thousand years
Such a haunting and unique middle section. Nothing ever sounds like it... Nothing ever sounds like The Doors.
Incredible!!😵💫☺️👍
one of the best guitar solos of all time magical
Did you notice how Robbie played a little bit of "My Favorite Things" in that solo?

Robbie was in an absolute zone with that solo.
I love how he threw in some sound of music these are a few of my favorite things!

Yes...took me to another universe!
If you missed the 1960's, listen to The Doors. If you lived through the 1960's and want to stay young, listen to The Doors.
Woodstock attendee is here to tell you you are right. Feeling way young listening to the The Doors!
Wish I could’ve been a teen of that era going to homecoming and prom and get to dance their music.
In general, listen to The Doors

That bass drum sounds amazing.

Robbie on fire, Ray and John holding it down. The best.
Robby Krieger plays some of the greatest live rock improvisational guitar I've ever heard in this tune.
he wrote the song, so he certainly knew when he could adhoc.

As amazing as Jim and John are, this is has to be one of the greatest keys and guitar solos of all time. Gets me every time.
Absolutely
Absolutely without question.
The best representation of my generation....the Doors. 🙏
The best performance of a frontman ever. Enjoying the best of his band. We love you Jim ❤
2023, mais de cinquenta anos depois... não perde a magia, as músicas, principalmente ao vivo, são fora do comum... Vida eterna ao The Doors!
Somente lendas de verdade para apreciarem a arte suprema do The Doors.
Mesmerizing - each member individually, and the band as a whole. I can imagine their music sounding just as good to someone 1000 years from now.
Totally agree. They are classic! Have loved their music since the 60s. Oh what a great time that was.

Grande bro!
Amazing performance of a perfect song! Ray’s keyboards are pitch perfect 👍, John drumming is spot on, Robby shredding throughout & Jim presiding over it all as the rock God that he is & always will be. Long live the Doors 🚪 the masters of mystical, magical music.
saw them live in the summer of '68 Chicago, they closed with When the Music is Over, in the dark, lights out, G.O.A.T.
I remember being there and watching this performance . Absolutely magical What a weekend it was with Morrison , Hendrix and yet within a year they were dead far too young and far too soon RIP and thank you for the music and the wonderful memories

Incredible performance! Jim's loving the long solos his bandmates are taking and so am I. The Doors rule!
This recording is visually aesthetic. Definitely takes you back to that time and the vibe of everyone in the mid60s early 70s. What a great musical period.
Talented guys, pure music, a joy time for 13:52 minutes. Long live Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, John Densmore, long live The Doors!
I think this is probably one of their best live versions of this song

Agreed
Absolutely! They took their music to a different level!

It's insane bro! All the best freak
Midway through, that is ME!! .. backstage over Jim's left shoulder!!!
My best friend went to school with Ric Lee, the drummer in Tens Years After, who also played this festival. We met a guy with a boat, got a $10 ride to the Isle of Wright, and hunted down Ric, who gave us passes early in the day .. everyone in nearby Freshwater, thought we were celebrities,.. free beer/food all day... best concert ever!!
put a sec time stamp on it...... how good were they in the flesh as a band?
AWESOME
I was next to you, ironically.
The greatest american band ever...Will stand the test of time,RIP JIM and RAY gone but never will be forgotten. Thank u for helping me break on through
I never had a chance to see The Doors play live . I wasnt born until 1977 . This is the first time seeing this video. Thank you for posting this !!
1980
I was not born until 1981, but it was Morrisons poetry that got me interested in writing poems. Extra bonus is the music ☺️🙂
I wasn't born until 2007
I was born in 75 too late
Una obra musical de arte!!
Siempre estarás en nuestro corazón y recuerdo.
Enorme Legado Musical de estos genios!!!
After many years of music genres, no doubt The Doors are the best representation of pure unadulterated musical genius
Today he passed away 50 years ago still a legend rip 💔

50 years later and it makes me wonder did this really happen so long ago? It's like that dream you wake up from and wonder what was I dreaming of and can only remember certain details now.
When I heard this in Spring ‘67 I knew the world would ever be the same; Ray Manzarek; genius. For me this is the best take.
The fact that 50 years later somewhere in Athens, I prefer to listen to these songs, shows the magnificence of the Doors.
Iconic !!!!
There will never be another band like the doors.
These guys were as real and original as it gets.
No band I know plays the rhodes ,only the doors.
Still love & miss the 60s - Thanks Jim!
I have always loved this band. Their sound was unique. The music was blues, rock and roll, jazz and simply covered the whole sound of great music!
Excepcional aunque no quieras bailas te animas super padre
Jim Morrison es patrimonio de la Humanidad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But no amount of drugs or alcohol can produce talent and a beautiful voice.
on pot. hilarious. "i am on pot" "are you on pot" who else is on pot? oh oh not pot.
Love how Robbie adds some of John Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" at 8:20
MrGuitarJeroen and Eleanor Rigby at 9:11
Thank you for pointing that out!
MrGuitarJeroen He also does Elenor Rigby by the Beatles sometimes.
The bass line by Ray throughout the whole song is My Favorite Things.
Best part
I call Jim Morrison the Accidental Rockstar. He had much of the music material already except it was in the form of poems. Bumping into his former classmate Ray on the beach one day and Ray and Jim talked about his poems and Ray wanted to put it to music. Thus, THE DOORS.
The Doors my favourite band, simply perfect.
I always loved this song for the instrumentals. I was in High School when it came out and it's still one of my all time favorites.
How famous were the doors when their first album came out
I like the fact that they focus not only in Jim but in the others too. Sometimes, sadly, Morrison's shadow eclipses the figure of the other three: Robby, John and Ray. I think this version bring Justice to what The Doors actually was: a great team, a perfect work for four marvellous musicians.
León Cuba good point
the whole band was excellent
some fans and critics were too obsessed with the mystic and aesthetic of morrison in 67 68.
it was once he got fatter and grew a beard in 69 that they kind if toned it down I think
Same with Ringo and Harrison
Carlos Rodriguez yeah good point some people appreciate each musician to a fair/similar degree
Remember this was August 1970 and they were playing with Morrison’s ongoing Miami obscenity trial casting an ominous shadow over the band.... as Ray Manzarek put it “He sang for all he was worth, but moved nary a muscle. Dionysus had been shackled.”
I assume this forced the film crew be a little more creative rather than just focusing on the antics of Mr. Mojo Risin.
couldn't agree more
One of the best Songs, ever made
Como envidio a cada persona presente en ese concierto.... el poder escuchar y ver en vivo a esta espectacular banda debe haber sido una experiencia única!
Al más allá.
Eu também viajo ,se tivesse tido oportunidade d estar lá!
"The Doors," in all their glory. And, Jim is focussed, and each and every one of them absolutely "superb" in their own right, and they were a very powerful force that shattered the mundane consciousness.
