  • Charles Kuralt presents this remembrance of one of the truly great racehorses: Secretariat (1970-1989), whose monumental 31-length victory in the Belmont Stakes in 1973 was a run for the ages. We also hear from Penny Chenery Tweedy, Secretariat's owner; Heywood Hale Broun, who covered Secretariat's Triple Crown win; and Arthur Boyd Hancock III, the owner of Stone Farm, a 2,000 acre horse-breeding operation in Paris, Kentucky, who looks over the very last foal of Secretariat, Risen Starlet. Originally broadcast on "Sunday Morning" May 3, 1992.

This just came up on my page. And whenever it’s about secretariat, I open it I read it, and my eyes fill up with tears. I truly believe he was a gift from God and there will never be another horse like him. I was privileged to be at the Belmont in 73 and it was the greatest day of my life.

I have a feeling there will NEVER be another Secretariat ... he was anatomically perfect, almost a freak of nature, with a heart twice the size of a normal horse. He was PERFECTION and truly God’s horse. I pray horses go to heaven cuz I’d love to meet him someday

Secretariat was a great horse, and a triple crown winner. I was so impressed, l named my bike after him. Such a beautiful horse who was loved by so many of us horse lovers. My bike was the same color as his fur.🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🌫🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🐚🌻🍀🌻

His time at the Belmont would have defeated these other TRIPLE CROWN WINNERS by the following margins that day, based on their Belmont times: American Pharoah - 13 lengths; Affirmed - 14 lengths; Count Fleet - 21 lengths; Citation - 21 lengths; War Admiral - 23 lengths; Seattle Slew - 28 lengths; Omaha - 33 lengths; Assault - 34 lengths; Whirlaway - 35 lengths; Gallant Fox - 38 lengths (source: ESPN).

What I have noticed with all of my pets, no matter they would be, was that if I said,
"It's okay," that seemed to be the two words that they heard and trusted to feel safe about, and then they would come, or do whatever I was wanting them to come to me for, and do. JUST TRY SAYING IT TO GET THEM INTO THE GATE, AND SEE IF IT WORKS FOR YOU TOO. I BET IT WILL.
