Every beach in California is open to the public up to the mean high tide level (average of the high tides). So if you can get there from the water, tidelands, or an adjacent beach, you are legally allowed to be there as long as you don’t venture onto the land above where an average high tide would be.

Yeah don't let them push you around. This is a free country. Well it used to be. That's very questionable these days.

It may vary by state, but I've always heard that "Below the high tide line" is public access. I mean how else are you going to get past private areas?

At least you're not finding all pull tabs, Robert. hahaha and with that Rent-A-Cop, I would have challenged him and asked for him to call a real cop. Fight For Your Right To Metal Detect!!!

Here's what I found out about metal detecting California beaches: A permit is not required. Digging is strictly prohibited, except in beach areas (Edgewater Beach, Euclid Beach, Villa Angela Beach, Huntington Beach, Perkins Beach, Wallace Lake, and Hinckley Spillway area only), where metal detecting is permitted during the non-swimming season only (from October 1 to May 15).'

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but one night last year I was told to leave a so. Ca beach just as I arrived. It was a police officer, and he said that only authorized workers are allowed anywhere on the beach at times when the beach is closed to the public. No exceptions. I left the beach and went back to my car and called the city police and was told that every city has its own laws and ordinances for their beaches. The shift commander checked the city's website, and so did I. There were NO exclusions stated for fishermen or metal detectorists on the city's beaches. So a police officer in that city can legally tell any metal detectorist to leave the beach when it's closed.

The flags were flying at half staff in honor of fallen firefighters. ❤️‍🔥. Saturday was International Firefighters Day and Sunday was the designated day for flying the flag at half staff.

Private security cant kick you off a public beach. Not sure on the high or low tide stuff.

I probably would’ve been looking for trouble. I would’ve made him call the cops. I get why you didn’t however I don’t like when people tell me what to do when they don’t have the authority to do it and it really bothers me when people do that, but you did make a better decision than I would have.

90% of the time there's a reason their a security guard and not a cop, im pretty sure your right on the tideline, and the girls stripping and juming in water, i think there's a shark movie in there somewhere.
