I worked at DIS 1996-2006 as part of the security/safety teams. No such crap happened there "on my watch."

Anyone who’s been to Martinsville knows that the drivers and crews basically exit the same road as the fans. I remember in the mid 90’s leaving the speedway and Simone rear ending a truck (kind of like a bump just to get them moving). Next thing we saw was chocolate exiting the truck and about to handle business. Needless to say it ended quick with just his presence there.

One of the Wood Brothers was walking all with all of us up that road after my first race there in 1999. I was still learning everyone in the sport so wasn't sure if it was Leonard or Glenn, only saw them from behind but they were walking through the crowd still in their CITGO uniform. Very cool!

I wonder who the driver was in this story? Chocolate said "early days" and referenced talking to Richard and "the driver" was working on the car. So I would have to say it was most likely Childress himself in his racing days, or maybe Ricky Rudd, or even Dale when he left Osterlund when he sold his team midway into the '81 season and Dale wrapped the rest of the season up with Childress. Dale of course went back in '84 so I would think by then Martinsville's security would've been more professionally run. Damn that was a great Chocolate Myers story! It sounds more like a Dale story but if I had to put money on it, it was Childress.
