    Power generation and thrust don't calculate correctly when they are pending being added. They seem to be off by about 50%, maybe because the stats calculator is counting them as heavily damaged. Once the generators or engines are installed their output will match the shipbuilder.

    2:22 You probably already know this by now, but my experience with incendiary is that it is really good at quickly setting ships on fire, and consequently bringing them down much quicker. HOWEVER, the end result is that the salvage sites have more "dangerous" options that require crew protection in order to raid, and everything is really close to blowing up.
    I think it's really only worth it when you need to quickly beat down some ships in order to thin the ranks. I drastically increased my salvage when I stopped using incendiary. My first few runs, I used it almost exclusively and I had a hard time staying afloat due to salvage issues.

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  3 года назад +2

      I hadn't considered that incendiary left more 'hot spots' in the salvage minigame, but that makes perfect sense. That is a problem for me considering how tight money can be and how essential salvage is to generate cash.

    Elint reading is based on what the radar source is. For your sensor Elint 1 is twice the range of the radar source. Danger is within range and they can see you if you're not landed or have a small radar crosssection. So Elint 1 is only 1400 if they have a MR-700 radar. When you have two ships with an Elint you can draw a +-15 degree cone for each and get a good idea where the radar is.

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  3 года назад +2

      Yep, I underestimated my range, and you will see what trouble that causes in the next video!

  • @swb5816
    @swb5816 3 года назад +12

    The power problem is because the generators haven't installed yet. For some reason they don't contribute their full amount unless they are mounted and repaired to 100%. The ship designer is accurate as long as you haven't changed anything.

      Thanks, I got this eventually. Just used to building everything in the shipbuilder and not really doing big refits mid campaign.

    Hello agin! I caught up with your series and was delighted to see your luck with those transports in the last episode! As the saying goes: "Fortune favors the brave". Well done!
    And now I would like to point out some things again. First the ELINT: As it seems to me the detection range depends on two factors. The first is your ELINT's range, the second is the enemy's radar. You detect radar emissions up to twice of the radar's range that is beeing used, then the warning level scales up by one for every fifth of that rage till it reaches "Danger close!" at the actual detection distance (give or take 50km). So a strike group, wich's stongest radar has a range of 750km will be picked up at a distance of 1500km and ELINT 1 stays till it is up to 1350km away. The bearing is also a bit tricky. The 30 degree scale does mean, that the reading changes at every 30 degrees, but not at the next full increment of it, but rather 15 degrees plus or minus to a given reading. So if you got a bearing of 30 degrees it will change to 60, if the actual bearing is more then (or equal to ?) 45 degrees.( Well, that was long...)
    The next thing is: Shipworks. Swb's comment about the generators is accurate to the gram. But that also goes for crew quarters, trusters, well actualy for everything you add to a ship.
    And the reason seems to be the mechanic in the game that when a part is damaged, it's effectiveness is affected to some degree, proportional of it's lost/remaining durability. And when you add a new part it starts at 0 durability and I belive at 50% output, before installation, and during the process it reaches it's maximum gradually. At this point you miss the two mounting spots for your cannons because you added a generator and a large crew quartes, that you won't be needing at the end.
    I know that this comment is reaching "too long, didn't read" territories by now, but I still would like to offer some advice, based on what I've experienced.
    Ready?
    It's about the "Rooster", to wich you added some reinforced hull parts as an "abaltive layer" (I really like this expression!) but had wery little hope for it's effectivenes. But on the contrary! It worked for me quite well up to this point. And there are some things, you could do to reduce weight with, so that the "Rooster" doesn't fly like an owerveight turkey afterwards.
    First: you could remove the small crew quarters as it's not needed actually. As far as I can remember you added it when you had Zenith-s mounted as well wich require two crew per missile. But if you don't add then back, or fire them in battle, then everybody on board will be happy again, so, no need for more crew anyway.
    Second:The two large MGU-61 generators are somewhat suprfluous as well. Inclouding their mountig main hull components and the one for the firesupressant. You could replacethe MGU-61s with four MGU-28s as two of them weigh only 87 tons as opposed to 93t for the big one, and the main hull parts with small hullparts. In my rework I added reinforced rectangular small hull components top and normal ones below, for it seemed to me, that the reinforced ones had as many hitpoints as a normal main hull. Now you should have 80 tons to play with. After this I neatly coated my Lightning with reinforced hull from top to bottom even adding two square parts to the sides of the vertical truster block, then two triangular below them and connected these with two rectangular parts under the D-30s trusters.The stas are now: Trust/weight 7.5; speed: 671 kmh; range: 1340 km; consuption : 179 t/1000km; weight: 1555 tons.
    There is an option to shave off some more weight and make the vertical trusters more protected, but I will only put it in here if you are intrested, for this comment is way too long by any means now.
    P.S: "Just one more thing!" (I miss Columbo...) The loss of effectivity also goes for ships damaged in battle, and you had "Sevastopol" take some damage to its sensor tower in this episode. As this will shorten her radar range, it may be a good idea to repair her as well.

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  3 года назад

      Great points thank you! I am planning a rebuild of the Rooster, especially now that we have a safe berth (as of episode 25), so thank you for the ideas. My plan was to go with a more heavily armed and armoured Rooster, but maybe we should go for the most 'Lightning' of Lightning designs.
      As for the ELINT and build comments - a lot of the time it's hard to remember things in the heat of the moment. But I really appreciate it when people point out the things I have missed. There is a lot of knowledge in the community, and this game is very obscure about a lot of its mechanics so I feel it is really important that we share what we know. So thank you very much.
