  • A strong winter storm that pounded San Diego with rain and wind Monday has wreaked havoc across the county's roadways and neighborhoods.
Northbound Interstate 15 at 32nd Street was at a standstill Monday before 1:00 p.m. due to flooding. Traffic was backed up to National City and CBS 8 coverage showed people standing outside their cars while waiting on the highway.
In the same region, homes in Mountain View around S. 42nd St. and Ocean View Boulevard saw massive flooding, after several hours of rain. Cars in the area had their tires mostly or entirely submerged as water flowed south down 42nd Street. Several feet of water mounted in front of a home on the corner of 42nd and Ocean View Boulevard as a river flowed at the back of the house.

Nah - it gets even worse when you find out that some of these insurance companies will silently cancel/terminate someone's coverage plan, make sure to NOT notify the client(s), and watch them just lose everything 😑🤬
This, unfortunately, happened to quite a few residents down in Florida during Hurricane - Fiona/Ian/Nicole (2022)

Sounds as if you may not be aware that our gov (actually, all major govs) and even private co's, can control the weather, and have been able to do that since the late 1940's? Hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes, cyclones, droughts, floods, and more. What you call crises are actions taken by those in power against human communities to extend economic havoc upon the unsuspecting populations. Combine such controlling forces with local negligence and catastrophes often result.

I wouldn't want to be the staff who will be ordered too clean out the drainage system! Given that the most likely situation was that they were either put onto other jobs or never asked to undertake the work. Worst case scenario, they chose not to do the job or chose to believe they knew best (it's not really that important and they deliberately put the work off), likely those who make decisions decided it was not important, lacking in funds and even possible they were lacking in staff!

So it was possibly caused by a blockage in the storm drain.. A city maintenance issue.

That is crazy. I never would have thought San Diego getting that much rain and such. Normally a super dry desert. And like all deserts they are unable to absorb water into the ground and so the water flows with a lot of force down the wadis. And it looks like that neighborhood was built in a wadi.

I could understand peoples frustrations as someone who experienced flooding in my own home last year, the cleanup is horrible and arduous. However directing your anger and blame at the city seems kind of disingenuous and out there. Don't live or buy a home near levees or low laying area which could be prone the flooding if you can avoid it...simple. Nature is gonna have its way with us from now on it seems, so throw away whatever preconceptions or assumptions you had from the past of the world's climate .
