  • TV series shown aired in 1997 capturing the work of the firefighters based at Old Swan and Low Hill fire stations in Merseyside. The 1990s were busy times for fire stations in urban areas. its sad looking at this series as there have been so many stations close and resources cut since this was made

    Thank you for uploading this. I was the blond girl trapped upstairs in the burning house. I have this episode only on an old vhs tape. And I have not watched it in many years.

      @@salfordcabby yes indeed. I had woken up from sleep and seen smoke everywhere. I opened my door and saw the staircase on fire. I knew I couldn’t jump from my window since it was way too high. So the only thing I could think of was to lay down on the floor where the smoke was the least since it was rising towards the ceiling. There I waited…

    This seems ancient now, depressing how fast the times gone

      Still seems an oddly familiar time. I was 7 in 1997. But it all looks familiar. Even though
      I wasn’t from Liverpool. Just the cars, and fashion is in the back of my memory.

    I do miss the two tones. What I do notice and seems to be northern fire fighters is that do have a bloody good laugh alongside being serious. My dad was a firefighter during this period and I wonder if it’s the same now.

    Wasn't there scam going on were firemen would get people to ri g in false fires because they got paid for every call out I'm sure I remember reading about it years ago, don't think they get a call fee no more because of that case.

    • @johnlinden9106
      @johnlinden9106  2 года назад +2

      Yes there was something along those lines where hoax calls were being made near the change of shift so those on the truck got overtime. It came to light when an appliance turned up at a reported house fire without any firefighting PPE on and were seen by an officer.

    Jesus. Only reason why i think the riser blew off is because it couldn't handle the pressure from the pumps at the time.

    Something not clear here. All the Watches in a Brigade on all Stations on duty on the same shift are the same colour. Otherwise spot on.
