CFD in Water & Wastewater Treatment: A Rectangular Clarifier

This animation shows a transient multiphase simulation of a rectangular clarifier. Clear water is collected with a system of perforated piping system at 0.5 m of submergence. The sludge is recollected at the bottom-left part of the basin with two suction pipes.
The system starts with a state of rest and full homogenisation of solids over the entire reactor. it takes around 10,000 s to reach steady state conditions.
This CFD simulation analyces the impact of the scrappers on the settling behaviour of sludge particles, when the trajectory on the top remains submerged.
