SIDI Rex Boots - The King of Protective Motorcycle Boots, Period

  • The SIDI Rex boot was released in late 2018/early 2019 as the direct replacement to the Vortice. The SIDI Rex sits atop of the food chain in SIDI’s motorcycle boots lineup. Unlike the Mag-1, the Rex boot is more similar to SIDI boots of the past as it has the external protection. While the Mag-1 is lightweight and thinner, the Rex offers more protection and is “bomb proof” essentially. Different strokes for different folks. One isn’t better than the other.
    The Rex is a great boot overall. It is extremely well made, and offers amazing levels of protection. One of the nice things about the Rex is the amount of replaceable parts it offers, if you were to go down on the road/track. One thing it lacks compared to its predecessor, is a replaceable sole. So you’d need to get the soles completely replaced if you were to wear through them.
    Looks wise, the Rex is pretty boss. Yes it looks big and clunky, but that’s the whole point. This boot is supposed to look like it can withstand a crash and keep you safe. And that’s exactly what it’s designed to do. The Rex boots look great with jeans, and you can wear them on the road easily as they ha e a reflective area on the heel. Overkill for the road? Depends where you live, and what level of protection you want. Do they beat the same old black boots everyone has? Yes. Beats wearing sneakers, thats for sure.
    One thing I love about the brand SIDI is they make pretty much only boots. They make great cycling and motorcycle boots. That singular focus, to me, is the difference between SIDI and a company that makes all different types of gear. If you are in the market for a track boot, or all around motorcycle boot, and you want the most protective boot around...SIDI Rex. It’s good to be the king.
    As always, stay fresh.

    The rex is most comfortabe boot to walk in top tier raceboot catagory. So you can use them sporting with them. I used mein on a 4500 mile road trip. They are comfortable for 7hrs of wear. The ball of the foot area flex well. And the mesh panel makes ankle flex easy.

    You mentioned jeans, I'll be wearing them under my kevlar jeans. Are they easy to get jeans over? Look alot wider at calf and ankle than my olde sidi vertebra boots. Great vid fellow Duc rider👍

      Rajeev Sood actually you’ll need to tuck your jeans into the boots because they are fairly wide. But don’t worry, because they look amazing with jeans. It’d probably look goofier if you tried wearing them over the boots anyway. Don’t be afraid to show off these dope boots!

    I'm in 3 minutes but wondering what shoe size you have? I have Nike Air Max size 44 (EUR) but some other smaller brands 43 sometimes too. Want to order online but unsure The AlpineStars Belize Drystar in size 45.5 EUR were too big. Thanks

    Awesome review! I've seen that there's a version called rex air, do you know what the difference is between that and just rex?

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes I do know the difference, the Rex Air is the perforated version of the Rex. I actually have a pair of the Rex Air, I’ll make a video soon to showcase those.

    Thanks for this video, I was really confused about the differences between the Rex and the Mag 1, especially because they are similar in price.
    Is the Rex overkill for the occasional trackday rider? I have a couple of pairs of more casual boots for the street but I need toe sliders on track!

    • @CountGreffi
      @CountGreffi  4 года назад +3

      Matt Neighbour I’m glad you found the video informative. Now with regards to your question...
      If you want the most protective SIDI race boot, and price isn’t an issue, the SIDI Rex is the way to go. I don’t think it’ll be overkill at all, especially if you use for track days (occasional or not). The whole idea is to be protected and these do that. They also look really good while doing it. You could always go for a cheaper boot, from SIDI or another brand, but these are dope AF. Good luck either way.

      @@CountGreffi thanks so much for your reply, very helpful. I'm concluding I need the Rex. Although the ST is probably better targeted at the occasional track ride like me, I have very narrow and shallow feet. My existing zip-up old basic SIDIs are quite a loose fit so I think I need the ratchet fitting system of the Rex or Mag 1.

  • @mckricks1
    @mckricks1 3 года назад

    It's a shame there's not some real leather on this boot. How well does the ratcheting system hold up? You've never had it break or anything after many uses right? Also, I have a slim euro-style foot which is who these boots seem to be intended for, but still feel very snug when I tried them on. Is that normal and will I get used to and appreciate that, much like an initially very snug helmet? Thanks for the review.

    • @CountGreffi
      @CountGreffi  3 года назад

      These boot hold up very well, and I’ve never had any issues with the. The ratchet system allows you to customize your fit really, so a little loose or more snug.

      @@CountGreffi How about the toe area. When I tried them on they felt very snug compared to my Alpinestars. Something I will get used to and appreciate due to better shifter feel?

    1.after 1 year may i know what do you think about sidi rex any dislike poitns?
    2. should i go for vertigo2 or rex if am normally foccusing on road rarely tracck or may be none but am looking for full protection
    am concern that rex might too stiff for road use

    • @CountGreffi
      @CountGreffi  2 года назад

      1. I don’t have any issues, with figment or the design of the boot. I think you should be aware that the boots always vent air through the mesh/padded area in the front & back. So this boot isn’t the most ideal for cold weather.
      2. I think, without track use, the Vertigo 2 would be perfectly fine for your use. I personally like the aesthetics of the Rex more, and I like how easy they are to put on with a race suit.
      Either way you go, you’ll have the protection you want. Vertigo 2 will be able to be worn in colder weather, and they are also cheaper.

      @@CountGreffi thank for the amswer
      I am live in Thailand and it very hot 35 to40 c refer to you comment is it mean that if open vent for both boots rex got more air flow?
      Also i dose not have many option here i have to choose vertigo 2 manufacturing date 2018 and rex manufacturing date 2020 is it true that Sidi life time around 5 years then plastic will start dry and crack?

    • @CountGreffi
      @CountGreffi  2 года назад +1

      @@theweejr yes, the Rex flows more air than the Vertigo 2. Both boots have vents on the side of the boot. But the Rex has a vent on the toe, and the Rex also has a mesh area front/back that vents air. The Rex comes in a perforated Rex Air version as well which may be best.
      I have owned my SIDI Rex for a couple years now, and the synthetic leather upper is in great shape with no issues. But I have a lot of boots, so I don’t wear any single pair that frequently.
