I agree with them on Pancake family. I felt it was wordy, constantly asking for sedatives, the ending being weak, and the story does stretch suspension of disbelief. Wendigoons reading was real rough too.
I feel like it was wordy because Wendi made it that way. The pancake creepy pasta made me more sad than fearful. Like how cruel do you have to be do that to someone. Also when the family realized they were stacked on top of eachother, their reaction was heart breaking. 😢
I find the langauge in the confession to be really interesting, the idea of "readying them for breakfast" is very reminiscent of codependency language in spheres like feederism, that sort of babyfication.
I'll be honest, it was the first creepypasta to actually make me feel sick. It's kind of expected, with the name and the location of the atrocity, but the gruesome details just cemented it for me. Jeez.
This episode in a nutshell: Story 1: Pretty cool story, nothing crazy but cool concept Story 2: Hilariously awful writing that's perfect for this show. Good comedy. Story 3: Please, please Wendigoon, never try to read a story going full ad-lib ever again. That was... real bad.
“Is this the performance you think our audience deserves?” Wendiggon assertively questioned, unaware of the horrid showing he would bestow his audience only a few videos later…
there's a really great r/nosleep series i used to LOVE about five years ago (i was 19). it's titled something like "I run a bar that serves one of a kind drinks to clients in exchange for their stories". from what i remember, the writing was pretty good and the different characters, drinks, implications were super captivating. Hunter and Isaiah would have fun i think.
I just recently listened to quite a bit of this one, didn't quite finish it bc I had a doctor's appointment but it was really good from what I saw. It's a bit more noir mystery than horror at a lot of parts to me but I would love to see hunters voice acting for some of the characters in it. And it definitely has enough horror to fit creepcast
Dude, opening this video and seeing “the pancake family” as a suggestion SHOOK ME. There was a master post of reddit no sleep stories and divided into tiers. When I was like 15, I read most of them and I wasn’t disturbed by anyone EXCEPT the pancake family. It genuinely lives rent free in my head. It is my borrasca.
I'm a little surprised so many people find it horrifying. I think it's pretty silly. But I never liked Borrasca either honestly. That one is pretty ridiculous to me too. I don't think it's just being a contrarion cause I love, love, love Penpal. I like most of the stories they've covered actually.
@@JillLulamoonI thought it was silly too... just, not scary at all… Which is crazy because I’m scared by literally everything to the point of being really embarrassed at myself over the dumdass shit I’ve woken my husband up over in the 15 years we’ve been together. Hey Wendigoon, i'm glad to see you experimenting with different styles of narration... but i dont think your reading of The Pancake Family is the way forward. It kind of dragged the story out, tbh. Just offering some feedback, enjoyed the episode all the same and i'm looking forward to the next upload 👍.
I completely 100% agree with this. This is the first time ever I actually couldn't finish a Creep Cast story. Listening to that was damn near unbearable :/
I'm in the minority here, it seems, but I thought it was fine. Not quite as good as some of the other readings he did, but still good. Without reading the comments, I wouldn't even have thought people would hate it or have any strong reaction at all. Sounded perfectly all right to me.
It just kinda sounded like he was barely paying attention. Like he was texting or something while reading. Ad libbing isn't a problem, but he just sounded so distracted and a big miss IMO
Nah pancake family might one of the most horrifying stories they've covered imo. Being trapped in a hydraulic press for 20 years, forced to stay alive just slowly flattened more and more is just horrifying.
I'd recommend a read on " my property isnt normal", "letter to the landlord", "I found a strange chat log on my dead friends computer" and "a girl the universe forgot".
The "my property isn't normal" one was a huge letdown ngl. I was excited at the premise of a guy in a horror story that wasn't stupid but then i feel like it went downhill fast and turned into a shitty buddy cop story tbh.
The girl the universe forgot is awesome (from what I remember from listening to it a few years ago). I'm pretty sure I've heard wendigoon say that he likes the weirdness of the mandela effect too.
Is it just me? Or is Wendigoon different? He doesn't give off the same chill wholesome vibe, that he use too... I can't pinpoint it but something is off.
As someone that’s lived in Hutchinson, Kansas my whole life, the Disappearance of Ashley, Kansas is interesting and one of my favorite readings because I know all these towns and references being made
And the story just goes hard using less is more. Someone could easily make a movie told entirely from the perspective of the Hays police department and it'd be terrifying.
I grew up 8 miles from the border in Nebraska so while excited to actually know these towns in my 10 years of loving horror and creepypasta I'm surprised I never heard of this one. I'm almost glad I hadn't heard of it until now
I was listening to this while driving and when I saw that it wasn't written like that I actually thought it was a good performance, considering he's not a voice actor
I was just looking for these comments (thankfully there were a few), I LITERALLY SCREAMED TO MY SCREEN "STOP MAKING UP WORDS, HE DIDN'T SAY THAT FOR THE 4th TIME"
Wendis always shit talking papas voice acting then comes out the wood works with the most awkward performance I’ve heard in my life with pancake family holy Christ
When did he ever complain about Hunter's voice acting? He joked about the accent Hunter was doing and stuff like that, but in the same convo, Hunter made fun of the way Isaiah _regularly_ talks (multiple times). If you want to misunderstand a funny exchange between buddies, why only complain about one side of it?
Personally I found the pancake one scary not because I found the hydraulic press scary, but by the growing panic in the guy's voice who was telling the story. You reader can guess where the story is going very fast. As soon as we heard the hospital beds with the press above them, we knew what was going to happen. But the scare came from the man that was describing it, and you KNEW what he saw, and you also knew that this all happened in the past, so there was no hope. It had its own tragedy to it. I don't know if I'm properly conveying why this story got to me so much, and maybe the boys fanatic reading played a part as well. But I am watching this video while standing in my perfectly lite kitchen cooking, and this story got to me a bit
@Stroivan yes! I was complaining about that above! How the hell did Isaiah do such and great job and then turn around and say 'So why was that NSFW?' ARE YOU LOCO, MAN!
I agree! The pancake family isn't my favorite, I have a hard time with gore and don't tend to read/watch/listen to anything with body horror since it makes me super uncomfortable, but i watched a reading of it done by the Dark Somnium a while ago and I thought that narration drew out the horror of the story really well! I understand some of their criticisms, since again I really dont like body horror, but I do feel like they may have missed the horror elements of the story that *weren't* the gore. I've been into nosleep/creepypasta stories for a couple years now and though I've listened to my fair share of stories that I didn't remember just because I wasn't the target audience this one really did stick with me. I believe that the pancake family is also part of a series which explains more of how Bamer had the access to do all this in the first place, though I havent read the rest of the series so I'm not sure if it would clear much up other than provide more context on her character. In my opinion it's one of those stories that takes a good comment section scroll to really understand and appreciate
I’m sorry but wendigoons improv for the last story was so hard for me to watch, it felt like he was skimming the text by trying to do the shakey voice I felt like I was having a stroke
It was increasingly hard to follow along as he was reading. The constant fillers, odd pauses and inconsistent pacing confused me and made it difficult to absorb what he was saying.
@@lavlaucand a podcast can still be a total slog to get through. i didn't think isaiah's performance was as bad as everyone's making it out to be, but it definitely does get annoying listening to a thousand ad-libs every sentence.
@@YNICOCINY On the Spotify version, the part that is muted: "Be sure to listen to this podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcast, it really goes a long way and we appreciate all the support on those audio listening channels as well." A bit of a stretch to call it an "easter egg" per se, since I'm leaning more toward "coincidental rendering error" personally, however it does track with the ongoing narrative of "Hunter doesn't care about the fans" that Isaiah has been joking about, so it very well could have been a subtle joke; Of course he'd tell the editor to censor this man's lies.

@bryanp7831 hays is bad because there's a lot of nepotism. If you don't have the right last name, you don't get the job, no matter what the job is. It's honestly a problem over the whole county because everyone's family trees (more like wreaths with marriages) are traced back for so many generations and people keep close track of them. I'm sure the whole state is bad because that same mentality goes with the people who moved away. They don't go far from their hometown. Witchita, topeka, and KC also have the problem of police distribution. None of them want to do their job in the bad parts of town because they know that's not where their paycheck comes from, so crime in those areas goes unchecked.

I'm honestly really shocked by their reception of this story.

@Stroivan yes! I was complaining about that above! How the hell did Isaiah do such and great job and then turn around and say 'So why was that NSFW?' ARE YOU LOCO, MAN!
Too bad Isiah totally butchered the reading with added words and improve completely changing the cadence and feel if the character.

A bit of a stretch to call it an "easter egg" per se, since I'm leaning more toward "coincidental rendering error" personally, however it does track with the ongoing narrative of "Hunter doesn't care about the fans" that Isaiah has been joking about, so it very well could have been a subtle joke; Of course he'd tell the editor to censor this man's lies.

As someone from around hays, KS the most unbelievable part of the first story is Hays PD responding to anything that isn't a drug call

I couldn't stand his ad-libbing during that story! No offense to Wendi, but the 'uhhs' and 'umms' and retooling the sentences really took me out of the story. I LOVED that story when I first read it years ago. Disappointed they didn't feel the same, but hey that's alright! 😅
Wendigoon: "Is this the performance you think our audience deserves?"
Also Wendigoon: "Uhhh uhhhhhh uuhhhh uhh uuuhhhhhhhhh uhhhhhhh uhhhh uh uhh uhhh uhhhhhhh"
Bro has no right making fun of Hunter from now on after that performance 😭
Can’t wait to hear hunter talk about how “lovecraftian” the disappearance of a city is
The doctor in eyeless jack is so professional that he automatically detected a missing kidney in Mr. protag
Which he put down to sleep walking 😂
And sensed his brother had been killed by some...thing
Yujiro Hanma as a doctor.
I actually really liked the pancake family lmao. I was so immersed in it!! And I was so surprised they didn't care for it!! The dialogue from the interviewee was so realistic and the description of the people was really good and had me gagging. The part about the killer revealing that their family was there with them the whole time crushed me.
I agree. I can't wrap my head around their reaction. Especially comparing it to that edgy analog horror. What the hell?
Same!! I really loved the addition of a female antagonist for once too!
@@dangerxbadger2300 Especially after the detective said he doesn't rely on profiles, but then he subconsciously assumes that only a guy would be able to be this cruel.
“Crushed” you😂
Its junji ito levels of comedy-horror, I loved it. Defiantly one of the best ones theve covered.
everybody is blaming Wendigoon for his performance, but Mr. Meat never once attempted to interrupt him in order to correct this awful performance.
Therefore both parties shall be held responsible for this, and the Editor of this episode must be held in contempt of the audience.
Hunters “ENOUGH!!!!!” had me scream laughing at work 😂😭 someone came into my office and asked me if I’m ok
The pancake “uhh” “umm” “like” family
And the Christian detective
Uhhhh Ben drowned goldbloom
Okay the pancake press was sick. I was like "is this just an interrogation of a guy who's horrified" and then.....wow. Twisted, thanks for making my work day go by smooth lol
If i took a shot every time wendigoon said ughh for the pancake story I wouldve died from alcohol poisoning
Mitch: "SOMEONE STOLE MY LEFT KIDNEY!"
The doctor: "That's crazy! Aha."
The fact companies want Papa Meat to do their ad reads is hilarious. I love them
Hunter. Everyone I knew growing up called their dad 'daddy' until middle school. Half of them also used 'mommy'. Jesus Christ. *I* used 'mama' and 'daddy' to the point where I still accidentally say it sometimes, and I have a horrific fear of being judged!
Update: Forgot that my own damn father still uses 'daddy' and 'mama' for his own parents. It's a Southern thing, so his accent doesn't make it sound childish for some reason? Even though I'm from up North? Idk, man, Southern people are weird. He calls the bathroom 'the pot'.
Welcome to the south, mommies and daddies. ❤😂
6:26 August 17th! Only 6 more days and my birthday. Maybe an earthquake will center under me.
I usually called and still occasionally call my mother mommy, but for my father it was papa, i blame the canadian side of my family for that
I’m a New Yorker but my grandma who was from Georgia called her parents Momma and Daddy until she passed away a couple years back. Very southern.
32 years old and my parents are “Mama” and “Daddy.” And I’m pretty sure my older brother still calls her “Mommy” in relaxed settings.
