I receive so many messages from people who don't get notified when I have a new video out. If that's the case for you, then I have a solution: subscribe to my (revamped) newsletter, where I'll send out info when a new video goes out :) www.darbinorvar.com/newsletter
This is the X40A, 42 qt capacity, comes with a tri-fold 90 watt panel and 1 battery. Runs $1038, so 10% off that comes to $934. An extra batt runs $159, and an extra solar panel runs $279.
Great video. Appreciated how thorough you were in testing :) That last scene with you putting it in your vehicle for a trip tot he groceries had me wondering how long until automotive companies start including built-in refrigerated compartments in their never-ending quest to cram more luxury features into vehicles.
Darbin I hate to tell you this after all the work into your test. but starting with a frozen bottle that is 32* and running in refrigerator mode with is around 40* your bottle is doing most of the work. I used to keep a normal cooler cold for 48 hours with a couple of frozen bottles of water. and the cooler was not expensive. By the way the frozen bottles keep the cooler cold longer than a bag of ice.
My thought too. I went camping for a week with a cooler of about the same size and a couple bottles of water that I froze before I left home...things were still cool (though I didn't have a thermometer to verify the temps) at five days in as long as I opened the cooler sparingly. It's a nice idea, but it's much ado about nothing if you keep a couple of gallons of water frozen in a chest freezer at home and a decent cooler around (far lower overall cost).
One big difference about this unit compared to a picnic cooler would be that it could keep things cold indefinitely in a prolonged power outage if paired with a solar panel.
I have opted for a yeti type cooler that keeps cold for 7-10 days, a small ice maker that I can run on my solar generator to make ice for my cooler for emergency type situations.
That's the proper way to review such a promising fridge! You did not mention whether its a compressor fridge or a theromoelectric one! Thank you so much for your channel! Big fan from Greece!
Pretty interesting little freezer indeed, Linn! 😃 The fact that you can connect direct to solar panels is fascinating indeed! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
What size DC connector tip is required to connect into the DC input of the Acopower battery if I was to charge it via solar panel or car DC output external from the cooler box? THanks
it is 5.5mm on the input and the output of the battery unit. i bought this cable to use from the battery to a laptop and also to use from a type c usb to charge the battery: amzn.to/3HeFNRg
With these types of units I wish reviewers would actually put a thermometer in the unit and see if what it says is the actual temperature. You tested the voltage going in but if the temp is not around 40F then wouldn't it be kinda dangerous to eat the food if its been in there a couple days and instead of 40 its actually 50? From my own experience with units like these I find they can be off over 10-20 degrees F
I think you need to factor in a few things. First these units are very small and whenever you open them up you are greatly influencing the temp inside. Second when something freezes solid, especially water, you can be sure that it is well below 0 deg C. I would say, from my experience using a few different brands, that the readouts are quite correct, relative to being reasonable anyway.
@@darbinorvar With all respect, just because you freeze water when set to -4F doesn't mean it wasn't 30F for that whole time. A thermometer inside the unit is a lot less effort then everything else you did. I can't remember if you said that you got this for free from the manufacturer? It certainly is not in the beginning of the video so I am going to assume you paid for this yourself.
Or after 5 minutes everything in your freezer would still be frozen especially with something in the Frozen already so yeah you can run it off from solar but I wouldn't use that kind of solar panels I mean you do have some bigger solar panels I saw them it to 320 w solar panels I mean you were a beginning yourself saying you're going to have to have amount teen amount of solar panels even more than a person actually needs to have to run everything in the house I mean they're not running a business for a single family house. Of course two to 320 watt solar panels probably won't be enough solar panels either you should have got 8 320 Watts solar panels you got a power and a lot more and that pie would have made your electric needs it for everything you need maybe.
Run one I was only getting 40 I don't know if you could do that too why don't you run four solar panels not foldable solar panels actually solar panels something that makes real electricity not something that's half rated to half or what electricity is from a solar panel.
Yeah how long does my 45-year-old batteries let us batteries work they're still working they still stood up my vehicles oh yeah I only use that I only use that to boost my bad is my vehicle battery is cold and yeah I'll come back up to the solar how long does the batteries work my 45-year-old batteries are still good let us have batteries 1350 amps batteries they don't make them like they used to know how I can get is 1,000 amp batteries but yeah my 45-year-old battery is still doing good just like my 26-year-old solar panels I still running great like today they did when I bought them. Of course I do got some newer batteries because I need it more batteries cuz running four or five batteries when you need was it 24 batteries and a solar panels are always begging for more and more and more batteries because they want to charge all day long they want a better run all day long.
Yeah look at you little portable camping freezer as well as your little camping refrigerator that's not a refrigerator not for a house no I got a real refrigerator it was just something like 2000 watts of electricity I don't know maybe 2500 watts electricity I mean it is 50 60 70 years old something like that I know it's older than I am caught him and Dad it's older than he is at least that's what he told me before he died yeah my dad died at 76 years old three years ago. So yeah I got a really old refrigerator it may not be much bigger than that but I do not have a mini refrigerator I got a full size refrigerator stands about 5 ft tall give or take a couple inches it uses a lot of electricity not like that many tiny refrigerator freezer combo thing you got there even though I would like one of those I mean that work good for camping is a few other reasons why I could use a little refrigerator and a little freezer like that. I think I should buy a few of those and might hold what my refrigerator can hold. Of course my freezer holds a lot more refrigerator and it's just a small chest freezer oops that's bigger than your mini refrigerator and freezer that you have there. I wonder if I can get away with something like that for my house in the middle of a city if I can just use a little portable refrigerators and freezers like that. Then I won't have to pay thousands dollars to replace it if it ever breaks and needs to be replaced. Yeah I'd rather pay a few hundred dollars than a few thousand.

@@sac58999 Yes, and just to clarify my cooler was hanging on the side of a garbage truck in 90 to 100* for the two days most always in the sun also.

@@richardnwilson Yes, I would love to see what it does with solar and no ice.

Amazing review, thanks
Hi! Thanks for that and wondering if I bring it out fully charged how long will the solar keep it going? Thnxxx
Barely hear this. Turn up the recording levels.

Do you think you could live off grid and keep beef continuously frozen? I have some cognitive issues so it's hard to follow the video at the moment.

You could add bags of ice to speed things up, also it helps because freezers work better/efficient with more stuff in them
Why would the freezer work better with more stuff in it? Compressor running for longer at a time?
@@AMacProOwner because solid items hold the cold for longer, than just free space
