• How to Install Artific...
A step by step guide on how to install artificial grass brought to you by Firstforturf, the number one supplier of artificial grass in the UK. This video shows a typical installation process for artificial grass on an existing clay based soil. Synthetic Grass installation process was carried out by installers of Synthetic Grass Solutions Ltd in Scotland (www.sgsgrass.co.uk). Due to the wet nature of soil within this particular garden the team installed drainage channels and soak-aways to help elevate drainage issues. The video demonstrates the basic steps to completing an artificial grass lawn. 1) Remove existing grass and sub soil 2) Cover area with anti weed membrane 3) On Sub base lay approximately 50 - 70mm of type 1 stone and compact using whacker plate 4) Lay approximately 25mm of sharp sand/red granite sand & screed surface to ensure level surface 5) Edge the perimeter using tantalised timber battens or block edging 6) Compact sand using wacker plate and screed once more 7) Cut grass and unroll into position 8) To complete join fold back the joining edges and trim 9) Create a “dry” join by positioning the two pieces of artificial grass together 10) Once happy with the positioning of grass, fold back the joining edges and unroll the joining tape 11) Apply Aqua bond Adhesive along the length of the joining tape 12) Carefully work your way down the seam, joining the two pieces together 13) Carefully cut the grass in against the surrounding area 14) Attach grass to frame using galvanised screws 15) Evenly spread and brush kiln dried sand into grass
Holy crap. I had no idea turf was this labor-intensive. Thanks for the video!
I came here thinking about artificial turf again. I had it once in a new house I bought in 2002. We got talked into artificial turf as the perfect fit for dogs. What I failed to consider is that real grass gets watered a couple times a week, and the natural chlorophyll in grass naturally deodorizes the stench of pet feces and urine. Within one summer, my $1800 "pet-friendly" artificial turf yard began smelling so bad nobody wanted to sit out there. And the dogs reeked like pee after laying in their own build-up of stench. I still had to water the lawn and what's worse, it didn't really help with the smell and weeds began growing up through it. There was no pulling out the weed. I had to use Round Up. How healthy for the kids and the dogs. The installer suggested using expensive deodorizers at $20 a gallon. But that left my yard smelling like a gas station toilet. I think I just talked myself into doing real grass again. Thanks FirstForTurf for bringing up old forgotten memories.
Bobby Hill 😂😂😂
Should have gotten rid of the pets
Well you’re supposed to clean it frequently you tard.
My aggregate was cracked around my pool, so I installed synthetic turf with pavers, only because real grass would be blown into the pool after each cutting.
I didn't have the money to put all new stone, concrete decking.
Given that I live in an area that my foundation will be an issue due to weather... this was by far the best solution and easy to correct for any settlement.
Also if a person who is considering installing this themselves, & happen to have any knowledge of sewing this is really a piece of cake to install. It's Just on a much larger scale.

Do you have to put down sand after the sub base or can you just put it down over the sub base???
Expensive job
good guide
What about creases and folds on the turf. How do you get rid of them
tidy work lads
why removing a real grass to put the artificial one
Chelsea FC in areas wheres its very dry like Arizona
If they're older im sure they don't want to be paying someone every 2 weeks to cut it.
For water conservation
Artificial grass is not a DIY option. You can hire a digger but you need to be able to use it and that's a skill. You also need a wacker plate and its all heavy hard work involving moving tons of gravel and sand. Installed by a professional it can look fantastic and last for years with minimal maintenance. Installed by an amateur it can be a disaster.
I would never install the weed membrane under the gravel and sand, weeds are quite happy growing in sand and will do so after the lawn is fitted, sprouting up through the drainage holes in the grass. Much more sensible to put the weed membrane on top of the sand, you then have a 'clean' surface to roll out the grass and slide it into position, making jointing much easier.
Stephen Robbins Weed membrane on the top layer of sharp sand/grano dust if you have pets will cause the grass to stink. Dog wee etc will just drain through and be soaked into the membrane.
is it same method to lay in balcony or terace
Intro is that long i fell a sleep !
where I buy this artificial grass economically
I want to put this around my kids playground.I wonder if the colour will fade much in the weather?
it can darken from organic matter and will want to be cleaned, especially if animals are around or trees that shed leaves annually etc.
Guys great job what grass did you use for the job??
Hello Keith, We actually use our own grass for all projects as we supply grass to trade throughout the UK.
I was wondering is Ireland still really naturally green country?
is it okay if it rains on this grass? since it is an artificial one, how can the water drain? or should we take any precautions to reduce or get rid of the dampness?
Mounica Kanumuri the turf itself drains it has holes throughout the whole thing. Plus there's turf out there that is made of a paper like material that drains much faster. Not only the turf helps with the draining but that is the reason why road base is used, it contains gravel and helps with drainage. The only thing you have to worry about is how they level the ground with the road base it should always be sloping away from the house.
we have one in our school, and last week everyday was raining and nothing happens to it
nice 😍😍😍😍
They took out nice grass to put fake grass
Too long the introduction to the video.
What's the damage in total ?

A leveling rake and a power tamper
How much for a job of this size??

Too much work. I'll stay with my natural grass.
..which requires upkeep in the form of work.
Kodi Gold natural grass is a lifetime of work. This is a day or two of work
Kodi Gold
Kodi Gold fuuuu natural grass - freaky. doesn't it stink and requires care? :-))
@cosme wrong, the work doesnt stop once the grass is installed, it has to be cleaned and maintained alot more often than you would think. Especially if the grass is near real trees or neighbours have cats, sand is a sponge and ends up stinking and if fallen leaves/organic matter is not removed seeds will root and grow on the artificial grass. animal waste will sit on it forever unlike natural ground.
My works too. Used woodprix handbooks and build it with no problems.
kaha milega ye carped mumbai me

Chris Wilks This kind of grass may be very useful in dry countries like UAE or Algeria. Though replacing a real grass with artificial in water-rich countries is stupid.
DIY my ass... this is for the pro
WTH??? Why does people hate nature that much?? 😒
Dont know if this txt will be helpful ... But if you had pets and you informed the sales guy for turf team.. HE SHOULD HAVE told you that you MUST HAVE drainage mat and ZEOLYTE this would have eliminated all your probs.. If not he is a TERRIBLE person and may God have mercy on his soul
Am I the only one thinking that it's a sin to have such a backyard and place artificial crap in it?!
