    i've found that journaling my prayers is the best way for me. i tend to struggle with getting distracted so when i would just pray in my head or pray out loud to myself, my thoughts would wander and I'd no longer be praying. I journal my prayers for the same reason I journal when I'm listening to a sermon; if i don't, i struggle to focus. the beauty of journaling my prayers is that I also get to look back on past prayers and say "oh look how God answered that prayer."

      I've found that this works best for me as well for all the reasons you gave. I find I can get everything out this way too. The next problem is just waiting after the writing to hear Him speak. I get distracted in the moments. Help us Jesus!

    Good morning,
    I want to share something that I learned today in my prayer time the Holy Spirit. He said make sure you are pr(a)ying and not pr(e)ying. Praying always will get our hearts to become one with Christ. A religious spirit is always preying is to satisfy flesh to say "I prayed about it" but there is no real exchange. Sometimes we prey out of fear or anxiety. And our heart is cold and hard as stone. We even sometimes have an attitude when we approach His throne of Grace. But we should not leave His presence that way. The preying doesn't bring clarity, peace or truth. In preying, it is very grieving to the Holy spirit. He showed me that praying for others or ourselves is about going to God to get his heart on the matter. It is for us to die to ourselves and thus allowing Christ to live. But preying is fruitless you end up leaving your prayer time more frustrated and you don't allow Christ's heart purposes to connect to your heart. This is preying, it causes your heart to be dead to the will of God. The goal in prayer should always be to find God's heart, this will always produces life!! Amen be blessed in Christ Jesus.. Abba up!✨🎚 I Thank God for sharing this!! Repentance of legalism and a religious spirit!! And trusting God to keep my prayers authentic and submit to His way. Hallelujah!!

    When you said that's how Muslims pray I just broke down because I was raised Muslim, and I brought over so much of that baggage to my walk with Christ. And a part of me knows that He already knows and loves me, but I also struggle so much with getting wrapped up in the salvation through works and being legalistic

    • @fortheladies771
      @fortheladies771 Год назад +1

      @AllThat I’m curious. If you’re Muslim, why are you under a Christian video lol? It’s a genuine question

    • @jesusislord9707
      @jesusislord9707 Год назад

      @AllThat Can't answer for the poster above but the Quran does call Muslim to hate and kill Christians. Satan is keeping you from the truth, salvation through Jesus Christ. allah doesn't exist which is why you've never heard from him, neither has any muslim. But Jesus Christ is alive and speaks to his saints everyday, ask the one true God to reveal himself to you. There is no salvation in Islam, please seek the truth. Jesus was crucified, buried and rose from the grave. He paid the penalty for your sins. God requires perfection to enter heaven, all of us has failed which is why Jesus lived the perfect life we couldn't. Don't die in your sins, turn to Jesus Christ.
      Surah 3:151: "We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve (all non-Muslims)
      Surah 2:191: "And kill them (non-Muslims) wherever you find them … kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers (non-Muslims)."
      Surah 9:5: "Then kill the disbelievers (non-Muslims) wherever you find them, capture them and besiege them, and lie in wait for them in each and every ambush

    • @BonBonHassan
      @BonBonHassan Год назад +22

      @AllThat it's okay that you're here. I'm happy that you're curious and even open to watching content from another faith!
      I will tell you part of the baggage that I brought. As you know there are five pillars in Islam, which are required for Muslims to follow in order to please Allah. I'm not sure what you meant when you said you know Muslims who pray differently because my family was very strict. Also the Quran doesn't give room to do whatever you want, you must live as Muhammed did in order to hopefully enter jannah.
      That meant I constantly sought perfection and there was never room for mistakes. Allah could change his mind even at any moment if my good deeds did not outweigh my bad deeds when i died. So i was in constant fear of where I would go when i died.
      In Christ, I know I'm not enough and that's okay! But because of Islam I still sometimes feel the pressure to prove myself to God.

    • @fortheladies771
      @fortheladies771 Год назад +9

      @AllThat Well, I asked that, because it makes no sense to be under a Christian video and then respond to a Christian’s comment speaking to her about your beliefs because she expressed that she wasn’t edified being a Muslim. There’s nothing wrong with you watching the video. Your response just came off dismissive and as though you’re trying to get her to believe that she may not be on the correct path, which she is. Jesus is the only way to salvation.

I am usually up around 5:30 am, and as much as I love that snooze button, waking up and starting the day with the Lord really starts my day well. Even if the day ends up hectic, staying connected with God helps me through. He is so faithful. Prayer is such a gift.

    I think what I struggle with is the “don’t bother dad” mentality. Like sometimes I feel like what could I possibly say that is of substance to the Almighty? I journal everyday and sometimes when I journal I write my prayers. Like I had a great journaling experience this morning where I wrote down what was on my heart and it was like I could “hear” God. If that makes sense.

    I recently watched a video about a young woman who used to be in a satanic worship group and she was used to attack Christians. She said she would be in the spirit and seeking out Christians to attack but some would have a dome over them that could not be penetrated because they were praying! She said they realized they could not attack while we pray! She has since given her life to Christ and she said that is the most reassuring part of this walk, to know without a doubt that she is protected in prayer! Wow, right?!

    One of the most helpful things I’ve done is prayer journaling. It is something that is an easy habit to start and you can look back at your past prayers and see how much God has provided and changed you and how much you’ve grown in your faith. But just in the past few weeks/days I’ve started writing down the time that I start a prayer in my journal and what I’ve realized is that because I’ve grown this habit and I truly enjoy getting to sit down and write it all out and in a way externally process my thoughts so I don’t get lost in my prayer, I have learned to slow down. I’m not timing my prayers or anything but I now have a habit of writing prayers to God and I enjoy it so much that I will sacrifice time and other activities to get to do it. I guess I used to think that the best way to pray or sacrifice my time would be in a way that was contrary to my enjoyment, but I think that there are ways that we can enjoy spending time with God.

All that was said in this podcast is things I know but it came to me in a new and fresh way. I want to rekindle that relationship with God again and start TALKING to God, because at the end of the day that is what prayer is. As a newly married man there are many pressures but they have been even heavier because I have not been bringing them to God in prayer. I didn't even realize, but I think this sparked a realization for me several hours after I watched this. I was in the middle of mom duties when I started to think about my art. I draw and am severely out of practice, but I want to create things that honor the Lord, like short animations and graphic novels geared towards Christians. I know I need to practice to get better but I struggle with things not coming out the way I imagined them. Even during practice, it's super frustrating for me, even when I try not to have rigid standards. But as I was doing those mom things and had on kids worship music (which really has been wrecking me lately 😂), I realized I haven't been bringing God into my practice. I haven't been praying before I start or even really thinking about surrendering my talent to Him unless I was thinking "God, why is this so hard/why is this obstacle so difficult to overcome so I can focus on practicing?" I realized that I need to pray before I start and recognize I'm not drawing to better myself, perse, but to honor Him. I will definitely be keeping God first on my art and surrender my mistakes and growth to Him.

The struggle is in some of things you discussed including "busyness" masked as idolatry, distractions and unable to just be still. But admittedly the struggle is in this false belief that God is ready and willing to answer everyone else's prayers EXCEPT mine. I love how God moved me to pause while watching to pray to address these issues and pray for the people I have personal issues with. Thank you Perrys for this topic, the realness and the wisdom. I love you Jesus! Without you I would never know the fulness of God’s love. My soul is troubled but I know you will continue to lift me up. Jesus you are my strength whenever I am weak. As a single mother I’m overwhelmed at times because both of my children are autistic. I’m desperately struggling trying to support them and myself because like so many others. I lost my job as a social worker at Forsyth hospital because I declined the vaccine. I declined because of my pre existing health condition lupus and heart disease. I was denied my medical/religious exemption. I wish I could go back to the hospital but the mandate is still in place for hospitals that participate in Medicare and Medicaid. I’m waitressing and I’m so thankful to be working again, but I’m not making nearly enough to make ends meet. But God continues to help me. Jesus is my only salvation. I get harassed and called names for simply asking for prayers, but prayers are all we need to get by, and when you’re a real christian people will always crucify you. Thankfully, God gives me strength to keep going. I have faith God will provide. He HAS THIS FAR. Please pray for me and my children.

    "When you pray good for someone who has done you wrong it forces your heart to move in a different way." Yes, true Jackie true! I experienced this when God had me pray for the salvation of the person(s) who murdered my brother 🙏🏿

    I've been a Christian for 30 years and am not sure what a typical "prayer life" looks like but I know I always am praying as I go throughout the day..I guess there are different kinds of prayer...I personally decided to stop my regular things that keep me too busy to pray this year and spend that time for God.🙏

    Thank you for an honest and transparent dialogue about prayer. I used to struggle so much in my prayer life because I was legalistic and operated from a standpoint of earning God's love. I also struggled with prayer because I was trying to follow people's formulas. I had to learn to come before God and bring my whole self, the good, bad and ugly before Him. That despite my issues, He still loved me. I had to learn to just pour out my soul before Him. I noticed that after I poured out my soul before God, a stillness would come to my soul. Now I pray because I enjoy spending time with Him, and the exchange is so rich that I literally can't live without Him.

    Yes Jackie, the shower!!! and I thought i was the only one!! The shower is my prayer closet. It's where I am naked and completely exposed before God. The shower, where I feel the warm water on my skin and I feel so alive and so vulnerable. The shower, where I am grateful to be alive and I am in the same state where my life began...naked, just me and the Lord!! I play my worship music and it's my favorite place to prayer and spend time with the Lord!!!🙏🏾❤️

    🔥 "...but it''s not ever busyness. It's idolatry." I'm gonna sit with that one.
    That's a key point on how Bible study is learning/doing so that discipline can be easier to get into than prayer. Oh, the point on productivity v the waiting v an active relationship with God. THEN all of that overlap gets simplified in *how* prayer cultivates a deeper relationship! AND how we can build that through increased leaning on His strength for it! Amen!! That was so spiritually complimentary in real time-wooo! You two. ❤️🔥
    I have never heard anyone tie in 1 Pt. 5:8 / keeping a sober mind in connection to abstaining from getting drunk (or let's add in doing drugs). I remember (at my former, legalistic church) Eph. 5:18 being hammered into our minds and it would be at the most random times...just somebody's mom coming up to comb her son's hair with her fingers before going up to sing in the children's choir and looking around at the rest of us, all smiling, and saying something like "all of you kids look wonderful, now remember" (smile drops, eyebrows raise) "God says not to be drunk with wine so don't ever do what your friends do if they ask you if you want a beer."
    I've been thinking a whole lot lately on how I have learned a lot about God and how I can trust Him and come to Him (esp when I was in an abusive marriage) and continue to learn (post that) how He is a loving father (this part being the challenge for me-which I know plenty of people can say the same-bc of coming up in a legalistic church and having a lot of damage in my relationship with my parents from adolescence well into my adulthood). Only recently I have been unpacking a lot about this with God a little at a time and I feel very hesitant to try again to have any kind of real relationship with either of my parents (that doesn't mean I don't want anything to do with them-there's just a lot of repeat behavior that has broken trust over and over again) while understanding my role is as their daughter before a Holy God. I want to be in His will toward them but without getting wounded again by what they either do or don't mean to do but won't change it. It is taking both prayer and more. But prayer could *not* be left out if I want progress. I would never be making any kind of sense out of it all and what God expects from me, without continuing to come to Him and get in His word, turn on Christian radio and Christian podcasts (like this one), and read books where God can continue to respond with answers. Yes, I agree-there's so much more in the supernatural meeting with Him (prayer)-HE brings the peace, the safety zone, the assurance, the place of belonging that the rationale and shifting sands of emotions simply cannot.
    Giftedness not being good enough, alone/being humbled/being brought to Him.🔥
    Keep speaking truth. Your podcast is so appreciated. 💜

    One prayer discipline I've heard to do is to keep a notepad next to you when you pray and jot down every random thought of things to do that comes in your head while praying to help quiet your mind and keep on track. Another helpful thing is to write down specific prayer requests.

    This podcast really blessed me. What Preston said about how he used to see peoples sin before he saw the person, I am struggling with that right now. What’s really been helping me is praying for God to show me that person as a child. Because behind all the sin, we were all (most of us lol) once small innocent children full of life and joy and I want to understand that persons hurt and what happened along the way that caused whatever they’re struggling with now. It really helps because when you imagine someone who lashes out in anger all the time as a small child who maybe had a parent with a drinking problem who constantly lashed out at them, my prayers then turn to asking for God to heal them instead of asking God to fix them. ❤

    "HE is sovereign - and so not to be approached as any regular person..."🔥
    I struggle with regular lengthy prayers because I was brought up at Grandmother's; there were quite a lot of us kids there, and not always as much of attention to go around for regular, special conversation with Grandma, the parental figure...
    It also doesn't help that I'm introverted; so talking doesn't come easily - but I do journal a lot. I also do pray short prayers throughout the day, vs waiting until a specific time in the morning or night to do a long, focused, intimate prayer....

    Thank you for being so plain and on point!! Prayer is a lifestyle. We are in a profoundly intimate relationship with All Mighty GOD. Having said that, there is no one way to pray like there is no one way to relate as a husband and wife in a marriage. Prayer is an experience not a task. So, we can pray, talk, acknowledge, communicate with God all day long; in the same manner that you would talk to a person who spending the day with you. I do not mean in an irreverent way, My point, we can seek and talk to God in our daily lives. There is also the formal sit and be still prayer waiting before the LORD and God will reveal Himself in the way that you works best for you. And like was shared, reading the Bible is key. God is revealed in His Word that's why we have these 66 books. God is revealing Himself when we read/study the Bible whether we know this right away or not.
