I’m just an American guy who lived in Japan for many years about 35 years ago. I met my wife in Tokyo where we got married. Her mother and father are from Ehime in Shikoku. Tomoko was born and raised in Hyogo Prefecture, but she spent many vacations visiting family in Ehime during her childhood. We enjoy watching your videos when they are uploaded on Sunday mornings. She has many fond memories swimming in rivers like the one you and Jessie go swimming in. We are particularly excited when you look at akiya, and look forward to when you buy and renovate one.
What a lovely video! I just love your content, it's so different from other RUclipsrs living in Japan. The noodles look yummy! 😍 I totally had a flashback to my Slovenian grandma who used to make noodles from scratch and then hang them on our clothing lines to dry. I remember she had also a kind of old machine to make them and I was fascinated by it. Thank you so much for reminding me of that, haven't thought about it in a while ❤
So yeah. I woke up early today to bake some bread and do some welding in my workshop before the family gets up. What's this?? A new Mika, Jesse and Pancake episode?? My projects can wait! 😆 As a fellow Candian expat (I'm in Seattle as opposed to Japan), I just love your storytelling, narrative and attention to beautiful nature. You really do take us with you and help us feel how the land enriches daily life. Thank you! I think my wife (born and raised in Japan) would not complain at all if we followed in your footsteps! 😅 Maybe once our kids are out of school, we can do something like this. Thank you for sharing and continuing to share your courageous journey--it's inspiring! ❤ I *love* how Pancake helped to make the noodles! 🥰 And they looked so delicious--will definitely have to try this! 😋
Thank you for your kind words! It’s great to hear from a fellow Canadian expat. 😆 I’m glad you enjoy the storytelling and the beautiful landscapes- as much as possible, I try to capture the essence of daily life here. Baking bread and welding in the early mornings sounds like a fulfilling way to start the day!
Beautifully done, as always! Great job on the rehab. 🍜 🍜 I think that we can all agree on how kind and generous it is of Pancake to allow you to live with him in his house!
The piano music while he was repairing the ramen machine made me think of the original Cooking Mama game on Nintendo DS. Ohh my nostalgic heart! This is a wonderful video!
Your videos are the most real life Totoro feels I have ever come across. You, your husband, and especially Pancake are an absolutle delight! Thank you for making this life just a little better!
I love the esthetics of your videos: a hawk on a pole, the drip of rain on flowers, Pancake being such a dog😁 Thank you for sharing, this was interesting!
Love seeing antique items restored with such love! Things were truly made to last before and it's so satisfying to see them work so well after so long! Also, Pancake stepping on the dough was soo cute lol
I like the videos on this channel, its always 'my pace' rather than 'Woosh!'. Its like... slice of life youtubing rather than the usual. I love cast iron. I always buy cast iron when I come across it. It just works so well everywhere, especially with a modernised rustic/industrial minimalist style as the industrial counter balance.
Thank you & very very well done, with the machine & the video. Excellent attention to every detail, heartfelt storytelling, & yes this is how to experience life, how it looks, how it sounds & how it feels. ❤
I absolutely love this video, I have my grandmothers counter top meat grinder. Just like this wonderful ramen maker, it'll outlive us all as long as someone continues to put in the love to use and care for it.
Just a general word of advice to anyone thinking of getting antique kitchen appliances: These were made before the food-safety testing we have today was in regulation. Always test for lead and just do your research into whether an object is still safe for food contact if you intend to use it. ❤
Yah, because we're so much safer now with regulations. That approved Tefal (/flon, they're all the same, that is, extremely toxic. Watch the Dark Waters movie for educational purposes). That allows plasics with phthalates for food containers and water bottles made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic. (FYI, at least 150 chemicals are known to leach from PET plastic beverage bottles into the liquid inside, including heavy metals like antimony and lead, and hormone-disruptors like BPA.) Not to mention the processed junk they regulate as food. We're so safe! I'll take the old kitchen supplies over the modern ones every time.
@@maigomika Oh wow. OK. Did you have to manipulate much during your edit to bring out those details? Really impressive for a first attempt. Thanks for sharing.
I didn’t know even the first thing about how ramen is made, and this was SUCH a satisfying video! Like many boys, I love to fool with mechanical things, so watching that whole process was just great - all the satisfaction and none of the work for me 😄. But more than that: you must have a good camera and certainly know how to use it. The scenery, that river running high and then fogged over, the beautiful moon shots, the birds, flowers…so soothing and beautiful. It’s like being at the lake. What a treat. I hope your neighbours fall all over themselves when they taste those noodles. Great job, and thank you, all three!
My grandma and dad were antique dealers and still often thrift around for cool things, and they've instilled this skill and love in me. Its such a good feeling finding something you can repair and make new and use again! ❤
This was beautiful!!! I was just a bit worried regarding the food safety also of the cleaning chemicals and paint, but as the other person in the comments said the entire implement might no longer be considered food safe 😢 But assuming all that was fine, it was so beautiful!!!! Did you end up taking some to your neighbour and did they like them?
I love the pacing and editing of your videos. They feel so serene and leisurely, yet you include a ton of content in 15 mins (imho the perfect length) 😋 congrats on getting that beautiful little machine restored and working - the gasps of wonder when the first set of cut noodles started to emerge were awesome 😊
I really appreciate your kind words! I strive to keep a nice pace in the video, as I enjoy a slower flow myself. 😊And nothing was quite as thrilling as when those noodles first came out!
This is my new favorite video. I loved watched the process of you restoring the ramen noodle maker and watching those noodles being made was so satisfying!
The whole noodle maker adventure has me impressed beyond words. The taking apart and the putting together of the machine (😮), and the fabulous ramen result! ❤
After an incredibly hectic and busy day, I'm so happy I got to watch your video. Your videos really help me to relax. I believe your filming is on a whole different level. You capture amazing moments. Every time, it feels like I'm watching a documentary. Greetings from Budapest!
Hello from Long Island, NY💐I’ve binge-watched your videos from the beginning to this recent. They’re educational, informative, entertaining! Pleasurably rewarding! Looking forward to more! Arigato💐
What an amazing find! Home made ramen noodles are the best, and with a machine like that, you can crank them out with ease! Nice job on the restoration, it looks good, a piece of history that will see more years of work!
That cat at the start of the video was the epitome of ''chill''! Didn't care at all about Pancakes curiosity and even marched in proudly to say hello in your room haha Great video and I look forward to more~
Another wonderful video. Loved all the shots of the scenery and birds in contrast to the intense dismantling and reassembling of the antique ramen machine. Great job and some delicious rewards❤️
I like the eggs marinated in soy sauce and a few other random things depending on mood. Usually pop the eggs in the refrigerator to marinate over night, and two nights can be good too.
that's super cool!! not sure if you'd be down to mess with tiktok if you're not already, but i feel like a short that showed you restoring and then making ramen with the machine would get millions of views
The moon shot with the Crow flyby was really special!
I couldn't believe my eyes when it first flew by! 😲
Love the recurring character of your resident black-eared kite. What a handsome bird!
Pancake helping with kneeding the dough was my favorite part!
Genuine channels like you guys are what keep my faith in sites like RUclips. Real people making real content. Keep up the great work!

The cuts to Pancake every video, watching whatever new project you're undertaking with skepticism, is the thematic consistency I need.
Your videos are always a balm for the soul, and seeing a new one on a Sunday is always welcome :) Cute Pancake helping with the noodle-making haha
I bought an illustrated how-to ramen book last year but have yet to make anything. You have inspired me!!
There's some really beautiful cinematographic interludes in this episode!
Thank you! 🥰 Luckily, there was a lot of opportunity to add these interludes throughout this video because it was broken up over so many days.
My favorite episode so far! Awesome content and cinematography!
second this - the editing and subject matter all came together, good work 🙏

I really like the video.
パンケーキのお手伝いは、微笑ましかったです😊
That is so cool! The raman looked amazing! Pancake wanted some too🤣
So satisfying to see that antique machine, all clean and making such beautiful noodles!
That antique shop is paradise ❤❤❤
Beautifully done, as always!
Great job on the rehab. 🍜 🍜
I think that we can all agree on how kind and generous
it is of Pancake to allow you to live with him in his house!
We’re just happy our benevolent overlord allows us humble peasants to bask in his glorious presence 👑
Always a joy to watch these days of yours.
Finally! I was able to have some time off and enjoy watching the video 🙌🏻
I hope you enjoyed the video! 😊
You are so cool! It was fascinating wathing you bringing this noodle machine back to life and making such a delicious-looking ramen
I love your videos. Have been bingeing watching them since last night 😅
すげー笑 For me as a Japanese, Ramen is for something eat out, not for own making. That’s really nice!!
The piano music while he was repairing the ramen machine made me think of the original Cooking Mama game on Nintendo DS. Ohh my nostalgic heart! This is a wonderful video!
It’s Scott Joplin!
pancake is really living the dream ^^
I just picked up an old meat grinder from a second hand shop in Kyushu , after some much love and cleaning it looks amazing.
Your style and composition gets better every video 🤯
So great -- your neighbours are going to miss you when you find your own house to buy.
Wow! Loved the video. Thanks for sharing a glimpse of your life in Japan. ❤✌🏾
Oh my gosh I loved every second of this! It’s so satisfying to see the fruits of your guys’ labor!
Your videos are the most real life Totoro feels I have ever come across. You, your husband, and especially Pancake are an absolutle delight! Thank you for making this life just a little better!
Aww thank you for watching and sticking with us 🥹
The ragtime was an incongruous but nice touch.
This channel is my much needed moment of calm. Such beautifully crafted videos, and I love how both of you are so open to trying new things.
Homemade ramen, that is so cool.
I enjoy your videos, your ramen machine is pretty cool. Your ramen looked delicious!
I really enjoyed the part, where you guys restored the ancient ramen machine 🫶
Aaah I love these videos so much. Thank you for sharing! I hope you and your neighbors love the tasty ramen you'll make. ♥

What a beautiful machine. Wishing you decades of delicious ramen!
I found Mika-chan wearing a pearl earrings which you bought at antique shop!
I love that ❤
I like the play on words here: "vintage clocks and baskets to *timeless* furniture pieces"

@@killmimes Hopefully they take our comments constructively. LOL
I hope they've considered that, given one of them is a blacksmith and should know these basic facts of historical metalurgy.
victorian theme when assembly, love the idea.
The moonrise shot at 6:38 is remarkable. Plus, the transition scene at 9:51 was almost like a painting. Great eye!
Those moon shots were my first test shots in LOG format. I couldn't believe all the detail it captured! 🤯

I gasped with you when the noodles sliced up perfectly. So awesome! Way to go!
Your videos have gotten so much better lately! In terms of technical quality that is. The content is always a delight :) Thanks for sharing!
I wish america would have more sense of community like japan. I dream of moving there more and more with your videos.
9:55 this transition goes hard af
Nice tech. Have seen restoration video of one of those before. Relatively simple machine. I love those things of the past

All videos to date have been great....but this was the best. Greetings from Italy...enjoy your pasta adventures!
so good video!! what a good job with restoring a vintage ramen noodle machine. kisses to pancake, the cutest dog in Japan
I was so afraid the ramen would taste like wd-40, but I guess it didn't! Great video as always! hugs from the Netherlands
Standard WD 40 is not food safe btw, use Ballistol or other food safe oil they usually have no wierd taste
@@fawkes9370Ballistol smells of old feet 😂
