I just started playing piano and experimenting and I can already make solo songs with the black keys. And incorporating the first white after the 3 blacks in a row. Idk what it’s called but I really enjoy piano I might start to learn in seriosly
I absolutely love this channel! I just stumbled on it, and you jazz chord lessons drive my ears crazy, In a great way. I'm going to have to put down my guitar for a second, grab my old casio keyboard, and practice those sweet jazz chords and lines, then use them with my guitar as well! So inspiring!! Thank you!
Johhny, you and I are kindred spirits, and I don't even play the piano. But I do play the accordion in a similar way and find your videos enticing to adapt. I just loved the all black key technique. It is easy to remember and build a grove on. I've been using many of your videos to get used to cool grooves on the accordion. i know you tend to term them Coctail Piano, so just think of my off shoot as Cocktail Accordion. I will have become closer to you in the future. Thanks
Cool Jonny;-)...FYI Irving Berlin wrote all his songs on just the black keys, and had his piano especially built to change keys so he didn't have to change hand positions! I presume he used the keys of Db and Gb only. Not to brag at all, but I discovered these black key sounds (sure you did as well) while I was banging on my great uncle's piano back when I was first introduced to piano around 4 or 5 years old. Never of course even realized these black notes produced the pentatonic scale. Thanks for putting this together!! BTW I'm loving and digging your course!;-)
Right, it was a Sohmer model and one of those he gave as a gift to an entertainer, Syd Miller. I was privileged to tune it about 33 years ago. Berlin played what seemed to be in the key of F# but the customized piano would enable anyone to play in any key because of the shifting feature.
@@kwixotic Wow, yes that was a privilege! Wonder how many are still out there? Are the Yamaha's still holding up? When I was selling them some 20 years ago, tuners all loved working on them!;-)
Jonny the backing track you use in this interesting "black keys" lesson is very Van Morrison style ... I adore it. Is there any possibillity to get this backing track please?
I've been messing around some with his "Cocktail Piano for Beginners" which is mostly white keys, I mainly start with the FACE chord and improvise, so this is a nice complement to change up the sound. "Thank you, thank you, that was my 7th piano concerto in white and now my latest composition, my 17th concerto in black." Just don't try mixing white keys and black keys unless you know what you're doing.
Love your stuff! I am having a problem figuring out how many notes per chord. With the basic progression. You broke it down for the turns, and it sounds like triplets. I understand this is improv, perhaps the notes per cord is really random as it is improv?
I only use E F and B, and primarily black keys....thats how i learned myself to play, and it works fine! You can check it on my channel if you like. It did take some time tough now i have my very own unique style of playing!
This is pretty much how I do it now. "learning by ear" but wanna play piano but nobody can teach it dumb enough for people like me to grasp the concept of playing the white keys AND white keys at the same time... I have some wonderful tracks of nothing but whites and black keys.

I rarely HAVE to get up and go plug in a board. But this one got me. Awesome!
Thank you so much!
The black keys sound great by themselves. I used to be afraid of the black keys, but they have become my favourite keys.

Thanks for the thumbnail demonstrating which ones are the black keys, Johnny.
Sheer brilliance
I came up with a bass line and drums today and for some reason only the black keys matched the key!
That last harmonic approach you demonstrate reminded me of Bruce Hornsby's playing in his hit song "The Way It Is".
Digs!! Cheers!
Love "Turns"

This is crazy. I thought I discovered this phenomenon by myself. Not disappointed; only proves I’m not crazy.

Nicely done ✔
Thanks ✌
@@PianoWithJonny absolutely! I'm getting back into playing after a long lay off. This was inspiring to me thanks again.
Really cool! Thanks. I’m looking to start learning piano as an adult. Do you happen to have a learning track for the complete beginner? Thanks!
love it
Nice sounde...👋👋👋👋👋👍👍👍

Play 15634125 canon chord progression + black keys will sound very Asian

It’s because of pentatonic scales
It usually also sounds Asian
I was surprised that wasn’t mentioned.
Just like Irving Berlin. 👍
Interesting.
Me seeing the intro: that isn't all black keys...
Me seeing *the intro:* oh wait
🎼❤️🎼🎹🎼🌹🎼
Sounds like George Winston style.
Hello from Indonesia 🇮🇩🎶🎵👌🙏
It kinda does. Definitely old school new age type.
Well ever heard of superstitious by Stevie Wonder? Yeh that was written in all the black keys
I learned this from Stevie Wonder xD
Jonny, you’re so adorable 🥰. (Isn’t that gorgeous?). With more teachers like you, there would be much happier failed musicians.
🤣🤣
What's up!!
Clouds.
Instead of black notes why shouldnot we use the transpose option ? 😜
Isn’t that gorgeous?
Going way to fast for me
hello anyone who sees this coment just feel the goodness of the piano sound i wish you all the best by Lumpsuker Hillary taizong
