I really appreciate it when movies include small details that help maintain consistency. By making Ripley 8's hair black and glossy, the movie acknowledges that hair and fingernails are made of the same substance, so it makes sense that both would take on carapace attributes.
Alien Resurrection gets bonus points for me for at least trying something new within a fairly limited set of internal tropes. It doesn’t quite come together right, but still ends up perfectly enjoyable. The worst I think people can really say is “doesn’t entirely live up to Alien and Aliens”, which is a tall order for anyone.
I worked in a laser tag arena where "Game over, man. Game over!" played at the end of every single session. Consequently it's burned into my brain and replaced treasured memories from my childhood.
Yea man it's the perfect adaptation of a classic story with the perfect twist on the story and the robot handed alien (I forget his name) is perfect a man whose dream was the treasure but let it go for Jim because he grew to love him over the course of the film but thire wasn't a cheep happy ending for him he had to run from the law because he's a pirate a lesser film whould have had him stay with Jim and completely forget all the evil shit he did throughout the film.
I love AR because of it trying to do something different. It may not have worked in all ways, but I respect it for the attempt. Also appreciate the Leland Orser love, as he is the quintessential journeyman actor to me
I wonder what the predators would think of Ripley, I think they would have to worship her due to having both killed an Alien queen, something that only the greatest predators could accomplish, twice (even if she died while killing one) and has technically beaten the black hunter(I don’t remember the name they have for death) by technically coming back to life
18:45 Alien Resurrection and Seven are probably my favourite Leland Orser roles. He does 'agonising pain in extraordinary circumstances' like no other actor could!
I grew up with Temple of Doom, and I may just enjoy it the most out of the Indiana Jones movies now from constant rewatching that old super long play VHS growing up. I absolutely love the other movies in the original trilogy, but Temple of Doom brings me back to being 8 years old
Favourite childhood guilty pleasure movie: "the Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension". From 1984, so yeah, a bit older than your usual demographic 🤫😉
For some reason Buckaroo Banzai has come up three different times in the last week. Love that damn movie so much was gonna mention it but you got here first. Here's to the older demographic
I must've seen this film about a hundred times when it premiered on sky movies when they used to show films for like six months in a row before replacing it with something else.
Also not a Disney movie, but there is an old television animated movie, way older than I am, where Santa has his origin story, fighting blue energy monsters. Had that as a VHS for some reason😂
Super Mario Bros The Movie with Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo & Dennis Hopper. I don't care if it's bad and I am sympathetic to basically everyone that worked on it hating it. But it's so much fun and is the one thing that I get to thumb my nose at Mario fans over. The more people hate it the more my love grows. And in the odd chance I meet a fellow fan we get to have fun gushing over how absurd it is. Another favorite franchise is Saw. But I like them in the same way horror fans like Friday the 13th & Elm Street.
I still remember watching the first Alien movie with my mom as a kid. I loved it but I almost cried asking my mom if the kitty is going to be ok part way through.
For me, its gotta be the emperor's new groove. My youngest brother was probably a few years old and absolutely loved it."I'm a llama again! I'm a llama again! Wait."
I can't even blame it on being a kid as I was in my early 20s I think but I'm a huge fan of both Atlantis and Treasure Planet. They have their flaws but are both just so re-watchable for me.
I didn’t realize how little I knew about the Aliens franchise until I saw Resurrection, so I watched all of them after and am still a fan Similar to that, my favorite Star Trek movie and guilty pleasure is #5 The Final Frontier, because it was my first time seeing anything Trek and opened up an entire world to one of my favorite franchises even though most people consider it the worst one made
I had one good "colonial Marines" moment. Using the aliens jump pounce I did the classic movie monster.. floor, wall, cut the corner on the wall, floor, other wall.
On the point about the Xenomorphs recognizing Ripley 8 as one of their own: She is. They're all Xenomorph/human hybrids as a result of the genetic cross-contamination. Apart from the hive mind, Xenomorphs are often shown in the games to be keying in on scents to discern friend from foe/prey. Ripley 8 would have the same scent as the queen. Or of perhaps a human carrying a queen (which is why the one in Alien 3 didn't want to kill her, even when she directly confronted it). As such, they would not act against her unless directed to do so by the Queen.
Alien was the first horror film I ever saw when I was 8. Absolutely terrified me....and immediately became my favorite film. In defense of Alien 3, if you ever get a chance to see the alternate director's cut, watch it. It's almost an entirely different film.
😂 watched ressurection (1st alien movie for me) when I was 8, right after Twister which I hold as extra good in drive-thru... something about the ambiance just worked.
Alien 3 was Aalright. It added a few story beats that were great, like the living Weyland, Ripley's core hardassness, the alien sniff scene, buuuut it was hard to get through most of it lol. And Resurrection was so much fun, but had an offputting af ending, but it was still a ton of fun. A litttle too much Joss whedon, but a fun movie.
@AgentGreen13 oh wow, I'm old. I forgot that it wasn't originally called Flubber. Yes, I meant the Absent Minded Professor from 1961. You may feel free to ring the bell of shame on me, I deserve it.
There was a truly awful comic sequal to Alien Ressurection, where T-800s jumped into the alien timeline, and used alien DNA to make terminator-alien hybrids. Ripley 8 was recruited by Call again to fight them, and so went terminalien hunting. I wish i was joking.
Oh gods it's worse than i remember, the comic was actually Alien Vs Predator Vs the Terminator. Possibly going in to so bad it's good territory, but don't hold me to that. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliens_versus_Predator_versus_The_Terminator
I think my favourite childhood movie is the live action Thunderbirds. Not good at all and I'll always remember a review, "Thunderbirds aren't go". However, the soundtrack fucking slapped.
it's nice to hear someone else actually likes this movie. it would be spectacular however to get a sequel to this video of a well executed bad idea, and go for the terribly executed bad idea, and have a look at everything wrong with aliens vs predator requiem. i swear, that was the first time i was every genuinely angry with a film.
My number one movie is the crow. I like every different version of the crow. I have watch the Brandon lee version so many times. It’s a very personal one because of themes of life ,death, love, mourning. I own the cd soundtrack and the OST of the first film. I actually enjoyed Edward furlongs version. Because of the Native American angle, which resonates with me. The sequel to the second, wich was botched by Harvey Weinstein interference. Still like the original cut anyway. His fighting style and some references to the original novel. The 3rd one I haven’t watched all the way threw, but is good from what I watched.
I will defend Prometheus to hell and back. I think of it as an Alien-inspired scifi film. Yes, they’re all crazy morons. Of course they are. Who else would go on that mission? They have to give up their lives and everyone they know will be dead before they even get there. It’s structured poorly, but that’s mostly pacing.
Agreed... it's a sci fi movie with an interesting concept/premise and themes, and I enjoy it for that. And for lots of scenes that went along with that. "Kernels of corn" perhaps, but my understanding is that a lot of the stupid stuff is largely due to the studio demending changes. (Also overpromising the "alien prequel" aspect in marketing, rather than just letting it stand alone as something that happened earlier in the same universe). Flawed sure, but I enjoyed most of it. And yeah, some characters made really stupid decisions. Well... that's possibly one of the most realistic things in it, lots of people do stupid things, and even smart people do them sometimes. 😆
Wait how is the alien queen giving birth in a human-like way any good for her species? That just seems like a downgrade. The way humans give birth is actually pretty shit for ourselves, it has a big chance of going wrong and it debilitates the mother for way too long, so in the wild that would be way too dangerous (not a problem now, but it was a long time ago obviously). Also she can lay many eggs at a time, while she can't give birth to many offsprings at once (even if it didn't kill her that would be an issue). And i get that it is obvious after she, again, gets killed by her offspring, but why did the guy narrating that scene even think that was an upgrade? Was he just insane? (It's been way too long since i watched the movie, and i only did once).
I think the main thing is that it eliminates the need for a host in their reproductive cycle which is perhaps the main thing that caps their overall numbers. (Since they always kill the host, they will always wipe out the hosts, but then they're stuck.) Remove the need for a host, and that particular limitation is gone. Yeah, the population growth would be way slower, but would no longer be subject to repeated collapses when they run out of hosts. I dunno, that's what I got out of it at least.
A film automatically gets bonus points from me if Ron Perlman is in it
I really appreciate it when movies include small details that help maintain consistency. By making Ripley 8's hair black and glossy, the movie acknowledges that hair and fingernails are made of the same substance, so it makes sense that both would take on carapace attributes.

Nice save from Karl when describing the alien's appearance as "looking like a pipe". That's what it definitely invokes in some of us.
First thing I thought of when he said about looking like a pipe, was the polymorph from red dwarf.
Alien 3 has the scene where Ripley smashes the pipe she mistook for the Xenomorph, and it winds up being just a pipe full of crickets.
I worked in a laser tag arena where "Game over, man. Game over!" played at the end of every single session.
Consequently it's burned into my brain and replaced treasured memories from my childhood.
Every laser tag place I’ve been to since I was young has ended with “laser runner, game over.”
I'd say my favourite Disney movie is probably Treasure Planet.
Fuck yeah, treasure planet is amazing!
i prefer Atlantis but treasure planet is really good
Yea man it's the perfect adaptation of a classic story with the perfect twist on the story and the robot handed alien (I forget his name) is perfect a man whose dream was the treasure but let it go for Jim because he grew to love him over the course of the film but thire wasn't a cheep happy ending for him he had to run from the law because he's a pirate a lesser film whould have had him stay with Jim and completely forget all the evil shit he did throughout the film.
Yup its just a spelljammer dnd game animated
@jojotheswede8444 damn Atlantis is a good choice. I mean it made a bridge and it took like 10 seconds.
YOU ARE NOT WRONG !!!!
I love AR because of it trying to do something different. It may not have worked in all ways, but I respect it for the attempt. Also appreciate the Leland Orser love, as he is the quintessential journeyman actor to me
Small claim to fame, I have that basketball. It was sold at a charity auction which a colleague won and I then bought it from him.
I wonder what the predators would think of Ripley,
I think they would have to worship her due to having both killed an Alien queen, something that only the greatest predators could accomplish, twice (even if she died while killing one) and has technically beaten the black hunter(I don’t remember the name they have for death) by technically coming back to life
18:45 Alien Resurrection and Seven are probably my favourite Leland Orser roles. He does 'agonising pain in extraordinary circumstances' like no other actor could!
The line "who do i have to f to get off this boat cracks me up"
I grew up with Temple of Doom, and I may just enjoy it the most out of the Indiana Jones movies now from constant rewatching that old super long play VHS growing up.

Engagement! Also, The Cat From Outer Space is one that I had incredible nostalgia for
I still remember watching the first Alien movie with my mom as a kid. I loved it but I almost cried asking my mom if the kitty is going to be ok part way through.
This podcast is the only thing that gets me through 20 minutes on the stair master
14:58 That even got referenced in one of the LEGO games.
For me, its gotta be the emperor's new groove. My youngest brother was probably a few years old and absolutely loved it."I'm a llama again! I'm a llama again! Wait."
The PS1 video game of that movie was the first video game I got that wasn't secondhand
I think my guilty pleasure movie and a great topic for wiki weekends is killer clowns from outer space.
I can't even blame it on being a kid as I was in my early 20s I think but I'm a huge fan of both Atlantis and Treasure Planet. They have their flaws but are both just so re-watchable for me.

Its a toss up between Pirates of The Carribean 2 and Brother Bear. Both are amazing films
Holy! I just watched Alien last night!
I'm sorry. That's my favorite alien movie.
I had one good "colonial Marines" moment.
Using the aliens jump pounce I did the classic movie monster.. floor, wall, cut the corner on the wall, floor, other wall.
Monster squad is my movie.

I had a VHS copy of Hellboy 1 I watched until it got stuck in the player
People always look at me crazy when i say my 2 favorite movies were joseph king of dreams and the prince of Egypt
For me, it was the Black Cauldron from Disney.
Alien was the first horror film I ever saw when I was 8. Absolutely terrified me....and immediately became my favorite film. In defense of Alien 3, if you ever get a chance to see the alternate director's cut, watch it. It's almost an entirely different film.

Ripley's DNA with alien DNA already inside her... her DNA is tougher than a T800's everything
The "it's game over man, game over" has been in literally every single laser Quest/tag business as the bookend I've ever been to
Alien 3 was Aalright. It added a few story beats that were great, like the living Weyland, Ripley's core hardassness, the alien sniff scene, buuuut it was hard to get through most of it lol. Aliens Resurrection is my favorite.
It’s silly but that how the world works sometimes. It’s almost like the moment in demolition man with Taco Bell/Pizza Hut 8:43
For me that childhood movie was cars 2
The VHS movie that watch at any time was ether pokemon the movie, power rangers or star wars ep 3
Song of the South, the Disney movie that will never again see the light of day.
I liked the original Flubber, but haven't seen the new one.
By original are you referring to The Absent Minded Professor? Flubber is a remake, didn't know it had a second remake
@AgentGreen13 oh wow, I'm old. I forgot that it wasn't originally called Flubber. Yes, I meant the Absent Minded Professor from 1961. You may feel free to ring the bell of shame on me, I deserve it.

I loved that story! Sure it registers comfortably on the Daftometer, but it’s still an entertaining read.
I think my favourite childhood movie is the live action Thunderbirds. Not good at all and I'll always remember a review, "Thunderbirds aren't go". However, the soundtrack fucking slapped.
It is the strongest moment in that film. 7:02
Disney ,movie fav was animal based Robin Hood.
it's nice to hear someone else actually likes this movie. it would be spectacular however to get a sequel to this video of a well executed bad idea, and go for the terribly executed bad idea, and have a look at everything wrong with aliens vs predator requiem. i swear, that was the first time i was every genuinely angry with a film.
I love the Alien series and their inept ability to contain a creature with acid for blood.
Deploy the baking soda!
They would easly sell me a movie ticket if they made alien 5 with super riply vs preditor
Resurrection is my favourite Alien film! The first two are clearly better, but I have a lot more fun with this one
The Sword in the stone was my non famous Disney movie.
Absolute banger, that one.
Kingdom hearts beef’s Merlin’s powers JS 😆
My number one movie is the crow. I like every different version of the crow. I have watch the Brandon lee version so many times. I first watched this as a kid in the drive-thru.... did you guys see any.good ones at a drive-thru?
Ive only seen Prometheus as well, and then the day after i got food poisoning. Coincidence? or a testament to how shitty that movie is you decide...
I will defend Prometheus to hell and back.
I think of it as an Alien-inspired scifi film.
